Sun Auto performed significant repair work on my Nissan Murano, including replacing a cracked engine mount along with several other issues. They provided photos for each service performed and applied a discount since the cost was higher than my expectation - I appreciated this discount and the final price was as we agreed. During my initial test drive, the check engine light came on intermittently, but they addressed and resolved it quickly. Since the repairs, the car drives much better and the serious engine vibration is completely gone. I took my 95 Chevy K1500 4x4 to Sun Auto to get my transmission done. This was done 10/08/2021. Paid $3508.94 Cash. The reason I'm writing this is that my transmission is not working ( just spinning) On the invoice its shows odometer-120353 miles, odometer shows now 122349 miles. that is only 1996 miles driven. Warranty is expired. The truck my secondary vehicle, I only use it when I need to haul things. the point is that I only drove it 1996 mile and the damn transmission is out. DO NOT COME HERE! My boyfriend brought his car here a couple of months ago to have the clutch replaced. He's a mechanic himself but works long hours, so he didn't have time to do it personally. [[HIGHLIGHT]]From the start, the experience was awful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service writer was extremely rude -- after several days of being told the car wasn't ready when they said it would be, my boyfriend simply asked for the service to be done as promised. Instead of helping, the service writer threatened him, saying "You better not say that or I'll charge your card."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He ended up spending $4,000 on the repair, and they still wouldn't bleed the clutch, claiming it needed to "no one wants to do it" -- which makes no sense. Just recently, when he changed his oil, he found multiple issues caused by their careless work: - The fuse box was installed upside down - A ground cable was connected backwards - The horn wires were severed - The ambient temperature sensor was loose, and another sensor was just hanging - Several bolts and nuts were rounded off from using the wrong tools This place is unprofessional, overpriced, and sloppy. This location is busy for a reason. Great honest people and fair pricing. My car had developed what I thought was an oil leak so I scheduled an appointment for this morning. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cole the front desk agent took me back to look under the car with a service technician to show only what may have been an over flow and build up from a quick service oil change and lose cap.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] No repair bill today and they even cleaned the area under my vehicle as a courtesy. They could have easily hit me up with a repair bill and conjured up something to pay for their time, instead honest friendly service. On a previous visit to this location I went in for breaks and rotors, I signed the work order and estimate. When the job was completed they told me of a part that was missing from the quote and that they were not going to charge me since it was not listed but it will show on the final bill just zeroed out. I took my car to SUN Auto to check out a power steering issue after I had already replaced the power steering pump. These clowns told me I needed a brand new power steering rack and hoses -- quoting me a ridiculous $2600 for the repair. Luckily, I didn't let them rob me blind. I bought the hoses myself on Amazon for $40 and replaced them -- BOOM, problem solved. It wasn't the rack at all. Just the hoses. These people either don't know what they're doing or they're purposely trying to scam people out of their money. Either way, you're better off throwing your money in the trash than giving it to SUN Auto. Absolutely disgusting business. Remember that detail for later. Soon after - I received a call-back and was asked to bring my truck in earlier than my requested time so they could perform a diagnostics. So, I took a half-day from work just so I could bring in and drop off my truck. I also had to schedule a ride back to the office as well. I entered Sun Auto Service (on Washington Ave) and told them I had an appointment. The technician immediately told me that my truck was too large for their lift. They couldn't accommodate me because of the size of the truck. I asked why they couldn't have told me that earlier, The manager said with a shrug that when I said "Truck" it could have meant "Pick-up Truck" and suggested I go somewhere else. An entirely unprofessional and dismissive excuse. I literally had to give them the make, model and year before I could even get an appointment. I question what else they don't know if they don't know what a GMC Envoy is. So basically if you have an SUV truck, go somewhere else - before they tell you to go somewhere else. I had a frustrating experience today. We encountered a battery issue and purchased a new battery, but it didn't seem to be charging. Consequently, we decided to take the car to Sun Auto. I want to clarify that I was upset, which they could tell because I was shaking. This was due to the severe nerve damage I suffer from, not because I was angry. Being 6'3" and 260 lbs, I have a loud voice. Since I am 69 years old and have to hold on to something to keep from falling down I don't think I was that intimidating. My wife took the car to the shop and noticed a sign in the window advertising a "Free Electric System Inspection." [[HIGHLIGHT]]She went inside and signed a small form for the electrical diagnostics, but no paperwork was provided. They told her they would email her the details of what needed to be done.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We received an email stating that seven repairs were required, and three were recommended. One of the required repairs was for the brand-new battery we had just purchased. I picked up my wife, and we agreed that we needed to speak with the company that sold us the battery, which is a well-respected business. However, they informed us that there would be a $125 charge for the estimate. They then told us that the issue was with the alternator, and the repair would cost $1,080. When I mentioned the sign in the window indicating that an electrical systems inspection was free, the man--who claimed he had been running the shop for four years--said he doesn't do any work for free, even if it was advertised. I took my car here for oil change and while they had my car in garage they said my both of my rear strut/shocks were leaking and that my brake pads were down to the bone. I was skeptical because everything I go there they find some other "issue". So over the next 3 days I took my car to a local mechanic and to the dealer and both said there was no leak and my brake pads still had approximately 15k miles still left on them. A colleague recommended this garage as a good spot to get work done that allows you to bring in your own parts. We took our car in when the AC started making a noise. Ultimately they did not find a problem with the AC, but found another issue to fix that was around $500 due to their extremely high labor fee- $130/hour! Less than a week later, we were driving down Charleston when the hood started smoking- it was the AC belt, as expected, despite the "thorough check" here. We also found a handful of Hot Tamales candies melting under the hood, apparently from one of the mechanics having a snack while he worked on our vehicle. Despite the extremely convenient location to my home and work, I'll be going elsewhere for future automotive repairs. Response to management: Nope, not a mistake. Avoid this place for anything other then a cheap oil changes. If you chose to use them make sure to supply your own parts, they try and screw you on the price of parts, they will justify it by saying they only source OE parts but you can STILL find your parts way way cheaper. They will also charge you more on labor if you bring your own parts lol. Also don't let them take your car without giving you a final price. The tech (Adam I believe) most likely by the direction of the service writer/manager (J.R), intentionally misdiagnosed a brand new wheel cylinder that is obviously still making hydraulic pressure....while I already had another brand new wheel cylinder for the he opposite side and was fully ready to pay extra for the installation of the part on the opposite side of the vehicle I had to blindly allow them to leave the old part in and use it to replace the perfectly good part that was already installed. So essentially I was forced to pay and extra hour of labor for them to remove a perfectly good part and install another brand new perfectly good part and then bleed it.... on top of that they did not adjust the parking brake properly. I asked for pictures of the leaking wheel cylinder and was left on hold and never received a picture. Was possibly going to bring it back this weekend because I need a knock sensor, intake gasket, TB gasket, etc installed if I had a decent experience but I learned my lesson lol. read more

I haven't written a review in quite a while, but I'm livid. My former husband had always used this Sun Auto location, but it has been a few years. My car is a 2009, and though there was nothing apparently happening to suggest that my brakes were bad, I thought it was time to have them checked. I don't recall them ever having been replaced. Sun didn't have this car in their records, just previous ones. So I believe that the brakes had never been serviced, because this is the only place he ever used. The car has a little over 60K miles. I think I learned that sometime over the last few years, either ownership or management changed. This is not the same Sun Auto that we loved. My daughter brought the car in, and they told her that the front rotors needed to be resurfaced and the front pads replaced. The damages? A whopping $563!!! For front only! And that's after they applied a $50 discount for an expired coupon I had. My big mistake was to not tell her to leave if the price was going to be outrageous. After asking for comments on a local site, it confirmed my believe that I was ripped off, big time. And she was there for 5 hours. Never again. read more

I have been coming to sun auto for many years and I have never had any issues until now. I brought my car in for routine service to replace the front brakes. I was told that I would need to replace the brake pads and rotors for around $550. They called to say that the car was finished, so I left to pick it up. While I'm driving to work, from the shop, I heard the sound of scraping/grinding metal every time I had to turn. As the shop was already closing I decided I would have to bring the car back the next morning. I brought the car back the next day and when I came to pick it up, I was told, "whoever did your brakes last, used bolts that were too long, so we had to shave down the bolt to get it to fit." I got my keys and started the car, hoping that the brakes would be fixed. While I was driving home on the freeway, whenever I had to brake, the car shook and wobbled. It felt very dangerous and I was scared to drive it home. The shop was closed so I would have to return the following day. I brought the car back for the third time and they told me they would take a look at it. They mentioned that it could be a tire balancing issue and that they don't do that. They called me a couple of hours later to tell me that I needed new rear pads, rotors, and calipers. They said that the rotors were unevenly worn and that it was causing the shaking/wobbling. (If it was unevenly worn, it might have been caused by the grinding metal sound resulting from the first job they had done. The car never sounded like that previously.) They told me the final cost to get the car drivable would be $1200. How is it possible that the rotors became unevenly worn within one drive home and one drive back to the shop? They were not unevenly worn the first time I brought the car in. They gave the car back to me in worse condition than it was when I brought it in. When I got home I looked at the bottom of the car and noticed a metal bar (not sure what it's called) just hanging from the bottom of my car, almost hitting the road and it was not like that before. I also noticed that they had basically sawed off the entire covering underneath my car? My car drove fine before I brought it here. Now I am scared and stressed on the road when I have to drive to work. I can't afford to fix it. Every time I have to use the brakes, especially on the freeway, it wobbles and feels extremely dangerous to drive. That loud grinding sound I heard after I got my car back from sun auto probably caused damage and they are trying to tell me that I have to pay $1200 to fix it. read more

Not super happy with the work from these guys. I'll start by saying that I am mechanical, but no means an expert. I first brought my truck in for an issue with it starting. I had recently replaced my power steering pump and noticed the issue after. Super generic code so I figured I would take it to sun auto since the guys at oreilly auto across the street recommended them. I took it to them. Ended up being a bad grommet on my intake. No big deal. Sucks to pay 163 dollars for a diagnostic but in the end I had an issue and they fixed it. No complaints! The mechanic recommended that I change my radiator since it had a small leak. I Went ahead and replaced that, on top of my power steering pump and my high pressure line coming from the pump to the rack and pinion to be safe. Did the upper and lower coolant hoses as well. Second issue. P2098 code pops up. Some what generic again. I go ahead and try and track down an exhaust leak. Don't find any. Went ahead and replaced my lower o2 sensor on bank 2. Code is still on. No big deal, I'll take it to them. I drop it off, leave it for about 6 hours and get a call saying that I didn't plug the o2 sensor all the way in. I thought that was strange because I did feel it "click" when installing it. Let's just call it me being dumb. I'll take it over a crazy bill. When I went to pick it up I specifically asked the guy that if the code pops up again will they re diagnose it and is there any warranty on the work (I really didn't feel like them plugging it in fixed it honestly) and he said yes. No problem. I pay them again another 163 dollars for a diagnostic for something super simple. Fast forward to a week later. Check engine light is on again. When I had it diagnosed the code I had dropped it off for was p2098 (running lean on bank 2 post catalytic converter) the code I got now was p219b (fuel is either too Rich or lean on bank 2). I call them up and tell them that I still have a code that's different for the exact same issue (lean or rich) on the same side in the same location of what they just fixed. He said that since it's not the exact same code that I'd have to pay another 163 dollars for a diagnostic again. So after 163 dollars and then telling me I didn't plug an o2 sensor in all the way I still have a check engine light for the same issue I brought it in for. At this point I've just come to realize this isn't a good shop. Like most shops they are quick to take your money but if you have an issue after you are on your own. I was going here because it was close and recommended. Now I'll avoid it all costs. read more

The man who worked with me at the counter was very kind and called often to keep me informed of the progress they were making. The only reason I gave them four stars is that someone at the shop had dropped something on my car and cleaned it with a rag. It was obvious because I'd just had my car cleaned and they left streaks over half the hood where they'd wiped off the spill. There were also some very minor scratches that would surely buff out.
