I should've written a review for this place years ago. Bottom line: This is where I buy my sneakers. Why? Because these folks know their shoes, and they carry the top of the line (and latest) models. I've bought several pairs of Hokas and OnClouds here over the years, but I was most impressed when I took my 80-something year old father here and they fitted his (very wide) foot with an outstanding pair of sneakers. I had finally decided to purchase a bike after pondering the thought for a year now and looking on line for a few weeks. I walked in this store right after they opened on Saturday 7/15/23. after walking down each row of bikes had found a couple that I was interested in. noticed the 2 workers especially the male seeing me look at the bikes even walked right by me once and never said a word. ( which really didn't bother me because I'm not that found about sales people) 2nd time he walked by me I asked him and told him I was interested in buying a bike. he nonchalantly showed were is hybrids were and pointed to the cursiers, didn't act like he was all that interested in helping me. did make the comment " sorry this is all we have right now" mind you the place was loaded with bikes. after 10 minutes of doing some more looking noticed he was helping someone else someone his own age not 65 like me. ( I only saw 2 customers in store at the time and one was myself) the other customer was even riding the bike in the store and I had to get mine down from the rack to look at them ( again that's no big deal) what is a big deal is not taking the time to answer my questions when I have one and not acting interested in making a sale. we have salesman in my business and if they did that the would be reprimanded. needless to say I left, and went down the street a few miles to a actual bike shop. they had an event going on with at least 40 people there with their bikes. within 10 minutes of me looking, salesman walked up and ask if he could help me with anything. after test riding a couple of bikes walked out the door with a $ 1000.00 bike $ 350.00 cart ( for my fur baby, along with other accessories T. $1600.00 ( all cash) at my age when we generally look at stuff that long we are ready to buy and have earned a good enough position at work ( 6 figures a yr) that we can afford stuff like this. Unless you're ready to buy a 3k cannondale they have no idea you're even there. I asked them for a certain product that the whole cycling world knows and dudes wouldn't even acknowledge. Tried to get some new petals for my road bike. After unsuccessfully trying to find what I wanted on their website, I called to make sure they were open (wasn't sure with covid) when I got to the store I was greeted at the door by as guy asking what I wanted. When I said I was looking for petals for my road bike he quickly said you'll have to wait I've got someone in the store already. Again, not a huge deal as we are all making changes with the Covid business. But not 5 minutes later another guy walks up and tells the same guy that he wants to buy a bike. The guy gets taken right in and taken care of. A second guy walks up and says he wants to buy a bike and gets taken right in. Apparently unless you're wanting to spend a lot of money on a new bike, they don't care about your business. I called them 2 days later looking for someone that could either sell a rivnut for to replace a worn out one on my bike frame. The service tech (whom I was told is a "bike master") had no clue what I was talking about and said "oh, those are like special rivets that you can't replace". I was able to buy one at my hardware store after some research. I decided tonight I would give them another try. I walk up to the door and again get stopped with a guy saying "what do you want". I explained I was looking for some yeti cups. He rudely says they are only entertaining bike sales and service at this time and nothing else. I will not be giving this company another second of my time. I was willing to pay their inflated prices for the convince of getting what I wanted immediately. Next time I'll drive further for a knowledgable staff and not such a punk chasing the high commission. read more

Today I took my family to Sun and Ski, as we do every year, to outfit ourselves for the upcoming ski season. We had browsed the store for 30-45 min and had already chosen about $750-800 worth of clothing, gloves, goggles, and were starting to look at helmets. It was at this time that my 3 year old son ACCIDENTALLY knocked one of the $180.00 smith helmets to the floor (from about 2 feet) and one of the over zealous employees sitting on the floor then yells at him "DO NOT DROP THE HELMETS, PUT IT BACK". WOW..STUNNED.. Seriously, that is far from okay. First of all, we are PAYING customers and customer service SHOULD still matter. Next, and maybe most importantly, I don't even raise my voice to my children in that manner and now my child is physically frightened because your disrespectful, unpassionate, bully of an employee for some reason feels it's okay to scream at him?!?! My wife and I obviously horrified at his behavior, decided it was best to put everything back on the shelves and leave the store immediately. This was supposed to be my sons first year on the mountain and this is how the poor little guy gets to start it off? SHAME ON YOU SUN AND SKI SPORTS and shame on that grumpy old grinch who viciously protects his helmets. FOOD FORNTHOUGHT: If your employees have a bad morning, ensure they leave it at the door. It's not wise to subject your paying customers, who left Pearland and drove to Clearlake expecting to drop as much as 2k on new gear for the family-- all with a SMILE on my face. (As is tradition each and every December) Well, Sun and Ski, If I could give you 0 stars I would have. I am unbelievably upset that this misunderstanding even transpired, but, maybe even more upset that Matt the assistant manager didn't really have much to say about it when confronted. When a sales associate finally comes out to floor to help, she (purple hair) helped the woman who came in long after me. I waited close by and in an obvious way to show I was waiting for her help. Brought my skis in to have some work done. Unfortunately a problem came up & they called to tell me about it. I went down to the store to talk to the mgr. expecting "sorry & here's your $ back," but that's nowhere close to what I got. David Matthews the store mgr. listened to my problem and came up with a solution that was MUCH more than fair. He then followed up to make sure everything got done in a timely manner & delivered exactly as promised. You simply don't see this type of service anymore, and I cannot stress strongly enough how impressed and elated I am. Sun & Ski sponsors the weekly running group meetup at Jackie's Brickhouse, and also gives away a pair of running shoes there once a month. That would be good enough for five stars, but when you actually go in and interact with the knowledgeable staff? Definitely five star! I won...ok, ok, my husband won, and gave the certificate to me...anyway, we won the pair of shoes for November, and since it's FREE RUNNING SHOES, I left work early to get here Friday, as Dana the shoe fitter was only working 9-5. I hadn't been fitted in many years, and since my weight has fluctuated some, and my running mileage has increased, I decided it wouldn't be a bad idea to get fitted again. Dana said she had been doing this (shoe fittings) for 20 some odd years and she was definitely thorough. She looked at my feet (ugly runner feet without socks - what a brave lady!), measured my feet, touched my feet (again, what bravery!), and said I had a high instep and some under pronation, which meant that I should be in a neutral shoe, which I am already, so that made me feel good. She brought out my ASICS that I wear already, plus Brooks, Newtons and Mizunos. I loved that she took the extra time to talk about where I run, and how far I run. I finally decided to go back to my good ol' faithful ASICS as that was what felt the best. But I appreciated the time and effort she took to make sure these were the right shoes for me. I didn't interact much with the other staff, but there was another lady there that was helping a customer with shoes as well, and she was just as thorough and helpful as Dana was with me. The prices are the same as other running shoe stores, or online. If you want good running shoes that are right for you, they're not going to be cheap. I will definitely return here to buy my next pair, and buy my beloved Balega socks as well. The place is clean, well stocked and has cool running gear (and other stuff too, but I just run, so I didn't pay attention to the other) and the people are friendly, and knowledgeable. That is definitely as good as it gets in my book! read more

Dropped my bike off on Saturday May 27th and told my bike would be ready by the 31st. I asked for them to look over my bike and perform whatever came with my pre purchased KIP plan (they had my account pulled up). I specifically asked them to inspect the handlebars and broken brake line, both major safety items that caused a pretty big fall on my prior ride. Received a call on the 31st informing me my bike was ready for pickup, upon receiving the call I asked the associate if everything I requested had been completed, he notified me that it indeed had been and the bike was ready for pick up. When I arrived at the store on June 2nd I stopped by and requested my bike, they walked the bike to the front counter and proceeded to attempt to charge me 50$ for a basic tune up. Basic tune up as noted by the coordinator Tom is a multiple point safety inspection, tightening of handlebars, lubricating chain and inspecting brakes. I inspected the bicycle as it looked untouched and upon inspection first item I found was the handlebars were still completely loose as I was able to move them with 2 fingers, the brake line issue I mentioned to the associate had not been addressed, the chain had indeed not been lubricated and the rest of the bicycle looked untouched! I asked the associate Tom for an explanation and he had none, he informed me he didn't know much about bikes and didn't know the mechanics name but it "looked" like his name was Rick. He then informed me he would get it looked over again and this time it would be a thorough look over. As I saw pricing on the receipt I asked what it was for he informed me it was for a basic tune up. I paid for a 3yr KIP plan that I was told would cover this. I was outraged and Tom seemed to pay little mind to this fact. I asked for my bike and told them I would take it elsewhere. This was a huge lack of communication between the repair shop and associates working there. Had I not been diligent they would have charged me 55$ for a tune up that I did NOT request AND had not been performed. I could have been injured on my ride that I WAS planning tomorrow that I will no longer be able to attend because I will have to take my bicycle elsewhere to have checked out. I will surely remember this experience and lack of customer service in choosing my next bicycle, I will ensure I am no longer purchasing from Sun and Ski sports. read more

We recently purchased two hybrid bikes during their fall bike sale. We are extremely happy with our bikes. I have to admit I was a little aggravated when they were supposed to prep the bikes for us to take home after paying. After I got home, i realized the brakes need to be adjusted slightly and the tires only had about 1/2 the tire pressure they were supposed to have. Granted, I can fix those things myself but it ticked me off that they didn't do it for me when I just paid $1000 for bikes and helmets. I'll be a bigger stickler for service when I take them in for repairs that I can't do myself. read more

Go here every year for my growing boys ski needs. I can always find what they need on the sales rack at a reasonable price. It ends up being the same price as Academy and better quality/durability. The sales associates are always willing to help but won't bother you either. They always answer my questions and point me in the right direction which is very helpful. read more

Strictly as a TOMS retailer: This store has come a long way. About a year ago, there was a sad small display that held maybe 10 types. Now there is a massive wall and 2 separate displays along the right wall. Probably close to 30-40 types including the newer seasonal patterns. Nicely done. read more

I came here to purchase some bike gear, as I was doing the Tour-De-Houston. They had several things on clearance(sale) and was able to get all that I needed. The guys in the bike department seemed eager enough to help, as well as knowledgeable enough as well. I could tell that they were either mechanics, or riders themselves. When I got to the register, the sale price was not listed in the computer, so I had to return my item so that they could change the price. read more

My boyfriend and I went into the store to exchange some ski boots that I bought online and we were helped right away! It was the most painless return ever! Jake took care of everything. He then performed a fitting to find me the best boot for my ski level. It was a bit of a process and he never made me feel rushed. He explained everything and worked really hard to get me into a boot that would not only perform the best for me but that would also appeal to the aesthetic that I wanted. I really wanted a white boot and he actually had a pair that would fit me, but he knew I wanted a boot that was more geared to performance rather than comfort. Kudos to him for not just putting me in that boot to make his job easy! He even suggested that I could go to their Westheimer store to see if they had a white boot in my size with the performance specs I needed.... even after he did all the work to fit me! But I didn't need to cause he had a boot that I really liked that he fitted for me perfectly! The next day we brought my boyfriend's boots in that I had purchased and Jake performed a fitting to make sure they were the right size. He took care of everything to get us ski ready and was such a pleasure to work with! This will definitely be our "go to" store for all our recreational needs!!! read more

This place is awesome!! I called up looking for a Thule cargo carrier for my car & informed Matt, one of the managers, that I was leaving for a trip in a week. I had called other places & even ordered one they claimed they had in stock but canceled those orders. Matt and David the other manager at this location took my information and were able to locate a box for me prior to my trip! These guys went above & beyond to get this for me including contacting the buyer etc. I could not be more pleased with the level of service & commitment from these guys in securing this item & keeping me in the loop throughout the entire process! After two sweaty hours of trying to put my son's mountain bike together I arrived today at Sun and Ski frazzled and disheveled! I was told that they were booked solid in the repair area but that I could leave the bike and pick it up in six days. I said ok and told them I'd just have to take the bike back home and try to figure it out. Next thing I know DAVE MATTHEWS takes the bike and without another word fixes it for me! I stood in the store and cried because of his selflessness. As a widowed mom of three I've learned to repair a lot (laptop screen, washer, dishwasher, exhaust fan, etc) and this was my fourth bike to put together in a month (this was the first with handbrakes etc.) but there are just some things I don't have the know how or strength to do, like this dang bike who's assembly direction were of no help. DAVE MATTHEWS showed me compassion when he didn't have to. He stepped outside his "role" and fixed my son's bike so that I didn't have to leave it for the week. It's not often these days when someone like DAVE MATTHEWS comes along and reminds you that you matter and that even when things are tough someone out there will lend a helping hand. Came in with my girl friend she needed to buy a couple pairs of ski socks. When we got the checkout counter. The cashier was having a conversation with a customer after waiting for about 5 min i cleared my throat and the cashier started to ring the guy in front of me up. Basicly i would say i felt ignored. If good customer service is important to you might find better online. For the basic things. Or if just one of those days you to drop in and feel invisible and ignored this place front end customer service should be right up your alley.. read more

I haven't been to any of the other locations but I have been super impressed with the level of service at the Bay Area location. The first time I went I was just starting to get into running and needed a pair of running shoes. Almost immediately an employee was there asking if I needed any help. He gave me a quick run down on the different options available, asked about the types of surfaces I typically run on, and even had me take off my shoes and walk a little to determine the arch support I'd need. I left with a pair running shoes that fit me great and were exactly what I needed. It's almost time to get a new pair and I'll definitely be going back here. The last time I went I was looking for a bike for riding on the streets in the area. I've never owned anything more than a $100 mountain bike from target and wanted to try something that was actually meant for street riding. I went during a bike sale where the majority of the bikes were outside in the parking lot. It was raining and the employees were held up in a tent trying to stay dry. As soon as I approached they were immediately ready to help. I explained that I was a complete bike novice which was further demonstrated when I asked why none of the street bikes had kick stands (apparently that's not a thing lol). The workers showed me three different styles of hybrid street bikes and explained the features. We talked about what I'd use and where I would most likely be riding to determine which bike would best suit my needs. I wasn't ready to commit that day but I was given a ton of great information. When I have finally decided on a bike I'll be stopping by again. Nothing but great things to say about the service here! I had the worst experience there yesterday. My fiancé and I went to go look at bikes and an employee came over, we figured he was going to sell us them instead he said "you know we're closing in a few minutes" and walked away. He was so young and was carrying a frisbee and a backpack ready to leave. Sad that some teenager who just wanted to go home and not be there ruined the first experience we ever had at this store. These guys are AWESOME!! I took my daughter here with a bike she had never ridden and once they got the tires aired up, one of the guys heard me saying that she was going to learn how to ride that day. He was kind enough to follow us outside to the large courtyard with her bike and he helped her learn to ride in like 5 minutes!!! It was wonderful! My daughter was so excited and so was I because I was expecting it to be much harder- it probably would have been without his help! He gave her some useful pointers and she was still repeating "Skill before Speed" as we went out today in our neighborhood for the first time!
