It looked like a construction site. There was minimal shade coverage, piles of gravel and dirt, and it felt like a vehicle maintenance lot. There was nothing about the place that captured the beauty of the surrounding area, and Sumpter is lovely. We had paid, but just left without asking for a refund. I gave it two stars instead of one because the staff was so nice. Also, I heard the couple just bought the place and are working on it.

Part of our group stayed here, others in a hotel and others at the Gold Rush RV. We decided to meet at Whistle Stop since it was the closest to the trails we were heading out on. As soon as we came through the gate (6 machines) the owner came walking across the parking lot and said if we weren't staying there we couldn't meet there. So by that statement I'm guessing that if you stay there you are not allowed any guests. There was one other guest in the whole park. It was all of our first time in the area, and we love the area and plan on coming back next year. And there is not a tree in the whole place. No shade. None of us will be staying at Whistle Stop.

We found the park to be clean and well maintained; the restrooms and showers were very nice. The RV sites have adequate space, there was a nice picnic table but no fire ring; there are a couple of community fire pits. The hot spring soaking tubs are adequate but nothing unique. The staff was friendly and helpful. We would stay here again.

Oh yeah - seeing the stars from the hot spring pool was dreamy. I'm not sure this would be a pick if the place was full of - the sites are kind of close. But I imagine many families create a lot of great memories here. Make sure to get off at the correct exit or you'll be driving for what seems like a couple miles on a gravel road. But it does immediately put you in the campy state of mind.

It's the kind of stop where you can actually resupply without driving into town. The hot tub was clean, well-maintained, and properly warm. Bathrooms had hot showers with solid water pressure, which is never guaranteed at an RV park and always appreciated after a long day on the road. We were passing through on a road trip and stayed one night in our rooftop tent. For a single-night stop, this place delivered everything you'd want. Clean facilities, good amenities, and staff that make you feel like a guest rather than a transaction. Would stop here again without hesitation.

About 1/2 the park appears to be full timers and everyone we met was friendly. Showers are clean and well lit, as is the laundry ($2.25). Very little road noise. The view is spectacular! Lots of good places to eat just a few minutes away (Sweet Wife bakery and Inland Cafe were both worth returning to). There's a nice big Albertsons grocery and a big Ace Hardware. Great little town!

Very remote location with no cell service and horrible, intermittent, slow WiFi. Bring books. The biggest downside is the food is really bad. Inedible overcooked goat?, other mystery goat dishes (maybe the old golf caddies?), and overall basically college dorm food level dinners. Bring canned food and lots of snacks. Sketchy if this place survives at the price they charge and with the food so dang awful.

Its a real treat to be able to camp in a pristine state park that has only been open a month! We…read morestopped here for a few nights of camping on a longer roadtrip. It feels INCREDIBLY isolated. Out of cell service and quite far from any kind of services. The campground itself is quite small and open - but with big grassy pads for tenting and great star gazing. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table. There was no camp host but we were able to buy a bundle of firewood. Pit toilets in the bathrooms and a day use area with a power outlet where we charged our phones. The site has some interesting history, previously being the site of a sawmill. There are some placards around about this. We spent a bit of time exploring the trails - well maintained and pretty sufficient for a family with small kids. My kids also enjoyed seeing the pond and dam.
