About 1/2 the park appears to be full timers and everyone we met was friendly. Showers are clean and well lit, as is the laundry ($2.25). Very little road noise. The view is spectacular! Lots of good places to eat just a few minutes away (Sweet Wife bakery and Inland Cafe were both worth returning to). There's a nice big Albertsons grocery and a big Ace Hardware. Great little town!

Part of our group stayed here, others in a hotel and others at the Gold Rush RV. We decided to meet at Whistle Stop since it was the closest to the trails we were heading out on. As soon as we came through the gate (6 machines) the owner came walking across the parking lot and said if we weren't staying there we couldn't meet there. So by that statement I'm guessing that if you stay there you are not allowed any guests. There was one other guest in the whole park. It was all of our first time in the area, and we love the area and plan on coming back next year. And there is not a tree in the whole place. No shade. None of us will be staying at Whistle Stop.

(If the wife had been along, we would've picked one of the fancy "theme" rooms... they all seem like a bargain to me.) The room - located behind the office - is indeed "no frills." But I was looking for a comfortable bed, and a nice warm shower. Both were part of the no-frills package; I was very satisfied. (BONUS: The owners are personable, and I enjoyed conversations with both of them, during my brief stay.) I'm sure I'll be back again. THANKS!

Needless to say, this was the best decision we could have made!! Ryan was thoughtful and attentive & the Juniper room lived up to the hype. When we finished our race, thunderstorms had rolled through and we were cold, soaking wet and tired. Ryan was kind enough to drop off some towels fresh from the dryer for us- so thoughtful! That being said, we still paid $170/night, including taxes, for a Saturday night stay. That rate actually seems steep for this location and experience. Communication was great during the reservation, check-in and check-out processes. I communicated mostly through text, which was a convenience for me. I was able to text them to let them know we'd be arriving later than planned. The pre check-in process online was simple and painless. Our king bed room was pretty clean. The screen on the window had a large tear in it, and there were some unidentified splatter spots on the wall near the full length mirror in our room. The bed was pretty firm, but comfortable for us. Linens were decent quality and clean. They also didn't have a luggage cart available in our building (#5), so we had to make multiple trips to bring our stuff inside. The guy that checked us in ensured us there would be a luggage cart available. They did accommodate our request for a room with a view of the parking lot, so we could keep an eye on my husband's classic car. Water pressure in the shower was lacking. If you have longer hair, it would not be ideal for getting shampoo and conditioner out. The road noise is pretty loud if you like fresh air at night while sleeping. We had to use the A/C to cool the room down instead, and it was super loud, even with just the fan running. Luckily my husband had earplugs, which helped a lot. People were running in and out of the building at all hours of the night, slamming doors behind them. Needless to say we didn't have a great night's sleep. Overall, we felt this place was overpriced for the entire experience. I think we should have opted for the nearby Super 8 for half the price!

This particular rest stop in Baker Valley has a gorgeous view of the valley just before the start of the Blue Mountains. Much of it is still rural farmland, you can't help but look out and think about the pioneers that passed through and eventually settled this land. Amazing! I also like that Oregon has put in mini museums or interpretive stands at many of the rest stops. The one here has pictures and stories about the pioneers that came west on the Oregon Trail wagon trains. Very interesting to read and learn more about the area. Amenities wise: this rest stop has all the standard things you'd expect: bathrooms, water, vending machines with snacks, picnic tables, etc. We've stopped here several times over the years and generally find everything clean and in good working order.
