Manicured lawns, sites that have hedges around them and very clean bathrooms and showers. Firewood for sale. A book exchange and a nice trail along the river. For those people it's five stars. For those who don't camp the issue is mosquitoes. There is a swampy area a nearby and if there is no breeze especially in the evening, they can be overwhelming. I am from Alaska and the mosquito is the state bird. Here they are equally impressive. If you have screens and bug dope, they are manageable because it's mainly in the evening they are a pain. If you don't, prepare it's uncomfortable and those campers would say two stars.

We drove right past the sign for Starr and turned around to check it out...very glad we did. The Starr Campground sits right off the highway and has 11 sites set in 2 sections, an upper loop and a lower section. When we stayed last Thursday night there was only one other party camping. Our neighbors were set up in the lower section where the sites are a bit more spread out, while we opted to stay in the loop nearer the highway. Nothing at the campground is far from the highway, but we found it peaceful. Each section has a vault toilet, and the upper one was surprisingly clean, as was the campground overall. The setting is lovely, engulfed in beautiful trees...including some larches that were turning their gorgeous yellow while we were there. The sites at Starr are only $6, a tiny price to pay for a beautiful night in the Malheur Forest. Highly Recommend!

But the toilets were the cleanest I've EVER experienced at any campground, anywhere! Aside from their immaculate cleanliness, they even SMELLED pleasant! I mean, I would literally have felt comfortable sleeping in them, even. I gave it 4 stars because it's kinda close to the highway...but that stretch of the 395 isn't very frequently traveled (or at least it wasn't at the time of my visit, in mid-July 2015)...so it's not really bothersome. Just not as scenic/remote as I like. But really, a nice place overall.

We found the park to be clean and well maintained; the restrooms and showers were very nice. The RV sites have adequate space, there was a nice picnic table but no fire ring; there are a couple of community fire pits. The hot spring soaking tubs are adequate but nothing unique. The staff was friendly and helpful. We would stay here again.

Oh yeah - seeing the stars from the hot spring pool was dreamy. I'm not sure this would be a pick if the place was full of - the sites are kind of close. But I imagine many families create a lot of great memories here. Make sure to get off at the correct exit or you'll be driving for what seems like a couple miles on a gravel road. But it does immediately put you in the campy state of mind.

Out of cell service and quite far from any kind of services. The campground itself is quite small and open - but with big grassy pads for tenting and great star gazing. Each site has a fire pit and picnic table. There was no camp host but we were able to buy a bundle of firewood. Pit toilets in the bathrooms and a day use area with a power outlet where we charged our phones. The site has some interesting history, previously being the site of a sawmill. There are some placards around about this. We spent a bit of time exploring the trails - well maintained and pretty sufficient for a family with small kids. My kids also enjoyed seeing the pond and dam.

The owner seemed really nice though I didn't do the booking or talk with him much, personally. The park is dog and kid-friendly. The creek is nice and cold and was great for the kids to play in and was easy to access. (I.e., no stairs to go down, etc.) There was plenty of parking for our crew which was really helpful. There are no water or sewer hookups at each site, but you can do a septic dump on your way out of the park. I think you can also fill your water tank when you enter. (I don't manage the trailer, as you can tell. :) Adjacent to the RV park is a city park for kids with swings, slides, etc. There's also a tennis court with a basketball hoop in it. Just up on the main street there's a little store and coffee shop, though they're closed a couple of days in the middle of the week. Down the road a tiny bit, there's a mercantile with all the basics you might need. There are a couple other little spots in town but those are the ones we most frequented. We went into John Day, Mitchell, and the Thomas Condon Paleontology Center in Kimberly on our day trips. A bit of a drive, but made for nice activities. (FYI, everything in this area of Oregon will be a drive.) General note: Come prepared with sunscreen, hats, a pop-up shade, and lots of mosquito repellent and bug bite cream. It gets pretty hot in Dayville, and thunderstorms rolled through almost every day of our trip. Overall I definitely recommend South Fork RV Park and visiting Dayville and surrounding areas!

And we arrived at 3 in the afternoon. The park was not what marketing said it was. It was so filthy! The bathrooms were so terrible. It's been weeks since they were cleaned. It was noisy from cars driving through the park at all times of the evening. People walking around our Rv on our site, banging things on others rvs. We didn't feel safe. I do NOT recommend this horrible place. I can't give it even 1 star. It was disgusting!!!

It's the kind of stop where you can actually resupply without driving into town. The hot tub was clean, well-maintained, and properly warm. Bathrooms had hot showers with solid water pressure, which is never guaranteed at an RV park and always appreciated after a long day on the road. We were passing through on a road trip and stayed one night in our rooftop tent. For a single-night stop, this place delivered everything you'd want. Clean facilities, good amenities, and staff that make you feel like a guest rather than a transaction. Would stop here again without hesitation.
