A very nice Japanese restaurant in Ixelles!!…read more The interior is modern contemporary / Japanese. Really nice decorated. You really feel in a modern Japanese restaurant. There is a big table that people share and they give enough space in between. We had as a starter the typical Japanese dumplings. And they were delicious. You really should try them out. The main course was also very good and tasteful. The service was good and they spoke french and dutch ( not easy to find this combination in brussels ;) ) I'll go back for sure !!!

Now, little did I know that this was gonna turn out to be an awesome restaurant! I liked everything about it: The decor is minimalist, juts concrete and wood, most of the the tables are benches, the owners/staff are way hipper than I am, and the food sounded promising. I ordered some Sashimi for starters which was a good choice and the Spicy pork ramen as a main, which turned out to be excellent! My spot at the bar allowed me to see the food coming out of the kitchen, and the Tuna salad looked amazing and would be my go to try next time round! The staff was very friendly and attentive as well. I'm definitely gonna come back, next time I'm in town.

Yelp, of course. When you're sitting in a hotel room and it's getting late, let's search "Restaurants," filtered for closest to current location. Many options came up within 0.5 mile or so, so we took to the street to investigate some of the highly-rated places. Chez Oki happened to be one of them...and a glance at the menu confirmed that yes, this is what we want! Japanese-French fusion is the name of the game here...that's not a culinary mash-up one gets to taste everyday. Please let us in without a reservation.....please let us in without a reservation......Yes! Thankfully, we were in. The menu is loaded with interesting-sounding choices, but I would suggest going with the three-course tasting menu for 30 Euros. After a tasty amuse-bouche, it was all great stuff, but what stood out the most to me was the foie gras sushi. Just say those three words - it's every bit as rich and luxurious as it sounds. After a lush, well-executed chocolate dessert, I was satisfied. For inventive menu items, all expertly, beautifully plated, at a fair price, Oki is tough to beat.

Okay, really a 3-star place but because this was exactly what we were looking for to satisfy our…read moreramen craving while abroad, it gains an extra star. A disclaimer: I realize that I'm probably spoiled by the mass of ramen joints that are in the Bay Area. As a result, I judge ramen places pretty highly. The 3-star rating is not to say that the ramen was terrible, but it is certainly not ranked among the best. Tonkotsu Ramen. Usually when I think of tonkotsu, I think of a rich and flavorful broth, as tonkotsu is traditionally stewed from pork bones for hours and hours. This broth fell a bit short of flavorful. The noodles, pork, and toppings were delicious (I always appreciate a perfectly soft boiled egg), but the broth is really what makes or breaks a ramen to me. Kara Miso Ramen. For those who like a bit of spice with their ramen. Or maybe not a bit of spice? I'm usually a super wimp when it comes to spice, and the slightest hint will have me reaching for a glass of water to rinse it all out. This one didn't do too much for me. I felt a little bit of heat lingering on my tongue afterwards, but I was expecting a bigger kick. The meat on this bowl was also a little dried out. I can definitely see why this place would do well in this neighborhood; it fulfills a need that is missing, which is exactly why we ventured into Umamido. Great for an area that is slim on authentic ramen choices; not so great for someone who comes from an area that is saturated with ramen.

I surely will not recommend that place, don't worth the price, no taste (put the extra egg)…read more I could also talk about the disrespectul student staff...the only japanese vibe you will get is the Honda Motocompo they show in the front window (very nice).

The restaurant is located far enough from the touristy areas to avoid being overrun, but easily accessible for the determined - only a 12 minute tram from Palais de Bruxelles. I have noticed though that the tempura is not always the same. When I visited this place before the tempura was made like in Japan and it was superb but this time it was more like a beignet and they served teriyaki sauce with it. It's not bad but a bit disappointing when you expect the real stuff with Japanese tempura sauce. The sushi's are nice and fresh, one bite size nigiri's. The miso soup lacked the sea weed and tofu, taste was ok. Overall a good experience, more original sushi's and dishes on the menu than the average sushi venues. OK, so even if this place is expensive (same range as some other high quality sushi places in…read moreBrussels though), it totally deserves its 5-star. Not only will you go to sushi/sashimi heaven, but it is such a joy to watch the sushi chef cut your fish (when you're sitting at the bar). I fell in love with him. Old Japanese man, cutting his fish with all the love he has. He could seriously do it blindfolded. The place itself is very discrete. Nothing too fancy, as well from the outside as inside. From outside, you might even hesitate to enter. However, please do not (if you have the splurge of course). You will not be disappointed. Sushi and sashimi are exquisite, every bite brings you closer to heaven. Offering sea urchin sushis tells you how great this place can be. The non-sushi and non-sashimi dishes are delicious as well and everything that is on the menu makes you want to try it out. We had some appetizers to share: clam miso soup (very good, but maybe really too expensive for what it is. Next time, we'd rather go for this other clam noodle soup that looked succulent, only a little more expensive but a much bigger quantity) and the chawanmushi (flan eel with king crab) which was to die for. King crab was really king crab. Delicious! As for our main course, we had the big sashimi plate and the wagyu beef. Definitely a foodgasm. After that, we still wanted to keep tasting the rest, as everything was so good. So, we decided to order some extra sea urchin sushis (we first wanted sashimi style, but the chef was so nice to warn us that that would be way too expensive, so we decided to stay with the sushi ones) and we definitely did not regret to end our meal this way. Well, we still ordered some ice creams (green tea and black sesame) to really end our dinner and to give us some time to consider already what we could try on our next visit here. I noticed they have some very affordable lunch menus. That should definitely be worth the detour if you don't want to empty your bank account. Anyways, for me, this is my new favourite Japanese "joint", just because I fell in love with the sushi chef.

The restaurant is a favorite of the Japanese community, so be sure to book as it is not big and always very busy. Sushi and sashimi are fantastic. Alone they make this place special, but the rest of the menu simply adds to it by offering a range of delightful dishes which are worth trying. Sit at the sushi counter on a first visit, always nice to see the chef working his magic. Food aside, the place is very nice though unfortunately service is sometimes below average. It is also not cheap, even maybe a bit overpriced, but that is unfortunately common for any good high end Japanese restaurants in Brussels. Parking can be a challenge but bus and tram make their way here regularly given it is next to the ULB university.
