- Price/Quality: The Maki (sushi) and donburi (rice with fish and veggies) seem fresh and pretty decent overall. Lunch menus like 'starter + fresh or funky maki' or 'fresh + funky' around 9 euros. I took the last one which was €9,90. You can also prepare your own maki, more expensive though. - Health: Salty soy sauce, cream cheese in maki, an amount of white rice in your donburi, but also fresh fish and spices, avocado, you'll be fine. - Pleasure: The rice in the maki was cooked real nice if you compare to other sushi places. Fish was the way it has to be, melting on your tongue. - Quantity: Still hungry, we went to Tagawa (Japanese supermarket 'around the corner') for daifuku and ice cream :) - Variety: No boats, just a menu with two kinds of maki rolls, that I chose from a dozen other creations. No ginger, just soy sauce and wasabi. Extra's like a bowl of edamame for €2,50. Sidenote: not of real importance but interieur has an 'indoor playground cafetaria' feel

Waiters are nice, kitchen is open, pretty small restaurant, so if you come after 8 o'clock in the evening, it's full, but it's possible to order sushis and go back home with them ! And as sushis are ate pretty quickly, if you wait 10minutes, you will find a free spot. Sushis are really good, I made my own sushis (check the photos with "California"), I ordered 24 sushis, after that, I ordered 16 more, because they are sooooo gooood ! I will go back there for others sushis, I want to taste all of them :) Definitely a place to sushis !

Tout simplement une tuerie!

Ok, ok, ok, easy tiger my turn now. There are already 9 reviews in french for this place with an average of 4.5 stars. Now I am pushing this average up a little. Simply because I LOVE this place, it is tiny, as it is small, it is scarce and scarce means special, and special means unique etc... Now what makes it special: Everythng! First of all the story of the this cute couple (who set up the place and still work there), who loved japanese food and saw a place they loved in Canada, took the chef back in their suitcases and asked him to help them setup there own Japanese restaurant. And he did and what came out of this (very shortened story): Makisu! The decor is dominated by wood (bamboo I believe) it looks like giant chopsticks all around the dining room. Table, stools and benches all wood, but without it feeling like a chalet. The kitchen is open.... oh yeah, I love transparency, and two chef are hard at work back there. You can order to eat in or to go. And then for the selection. In the name there is Maki, so obviously they do a wild selection of Makis, some creative (without going stupid crazy), and some more conventional, but they all have in common an impeccable taste and texture. And as the place is becoming increasingly popular, no risk of getting rice that laid out to dry, or salmon which is not fresher than fresh. They have a great turnover so my guess is they must get 2 fish deliveries a day... :-) just kiddin' No seriously the makis are extremely nice. Now I am sort of an adventurer, and lazy too, so my order was somewhat like, we are 5 give me some of this good stuff, and along came two Donburis, nice lukewarm rice bowls with shrimp, chicken or salmon and good seasoning.... simple but very nice. I recommend. Ok that's it for me, next step for you guys out there, run and enjoy Makisu.

The place to be du moment... Pas cher, formule originale, bon, rapide, simple! À essayer!

Food is five stars! One less because the place is cramped and with few seats. But the sushis are delicious and the quality/price ratio is probably the best I had in Brussels so far! We had two of their proposed set makis and we made two our own. Total 24 pieces, one edameme and two waters for 28EUR. I will definitely come back!

I was looking for authentic Japanese sushi and donburi bowls in Brussels Belgium... Makisu did not disappoint. Although at first glance it may seem like a fast food joint- the quality of the food is not sacrificed with the automation of their ordering system. You have to ask for the wasabi separately and both soy sauces had a very sweet "sucrose" sort of taste, but even with out the sauces the F O O D was A M A Z I N G! I'm going back next time I'm in Brussels Belgium. yess I ate all of this myself

Donburi here is affordable and tasty! I would say the rice bowls are more similar to poke than Japanese don, nonetheless good. We had a chicken katsu don and a make my own which included salmon, shiitake mushroom, asparagus, and other toppings. Both dons had unagi (eel) sauce on top. The sashimi was fresh. All ingredients on chopped into small pieces, making it easy to chew or mix with rice if desired. The unagi sauce was fairly sweet so I would suggest asking for less, or put on side if possible. Other than that, staff was friendly, environment was conducive to food and chatter. Great experience overall!

Desgusting.. 5 months ago I given 5 stars. But now, it became really disgusting. Made like a sh...t. Shame on you Makisu. The taste was bad, the gingembre really not tasty, the wasabi insignificant... berkkkk Never again. You lost one client.

My makis :)

Not the best sushi in town but very good price/ quality. It's crowdy and loud but for a fast dinner/ lunch is worth the try. Best feauture: make your own makis :)

Okay, really a 3-star place but because this was exactly what we were looking for to satisfy our…read moreramen craving while abroad, it gains an extra star. A disclaimer: I realize that I'm probably spoiled by the mass of ramen joints that are in the Bay Area. As a result, I judge ramen places pretty highly. The 3-star rating is not to say that the ramen was terrible, but it is certainly not ranked among the best. Tonkotsu Ramen. Usually when I think of tonkotsu, I think of a rich and flavorful broth, as tonkotsu is traditionally stewed from pork bones for hours and hours. This broth fell a bit short of flavorful. The noodles, pork, and toppings were delicious (I always appreciate a perfectly soft boiled egg), but the broth is really what makes or breaks a ramen to me. Kara Miso Ramen. For those who like a bit of spice with their ramen. Or maybe not a bit of spice? I'm usually a super wimp when it comes to spice, and the slightest hint will have me reaching for a glass of water to rinse it all out. This one didn't do too much for me. I felt a little bit of heat lingering on my tongue afterwards, but I was expecting a bigger kick. The meat on this bowl was also a little dried out. I can definitely see why this place would do well in this neighborhood; it fulfills a need that is missing, which is exactly why we ventured into Umamido. Great for an area that is slim on authentic ramen choices; not so great for someone who comes from an area that is saturated with ramen.

I surely will not recommend that place, don't worth the price, no taste (put the extra egg)…read more I could also talk about the disrespectul student staff...the only japanese vibe you will get is the Honda Motocompo they show in the front window (very nice).

I have noticed though that the tempura is not always the same. When I visited this place before the tempura was made like in Japan and it was superb but this time it was more like a beignet and they served teriyaki sauce with it. It's not bad but a bit disappointing when you expect the real stuff with Japanese tempura sauce. The sushi's are nice and fresh, one bite size nigiri's. The miso soup lacked the sea weed and tofu, taste was ok. Overall a good experience, more original sushi's and dishes on the menu than the average sushi venues. If they would make it a little more like in Japan it could be even better.

OK, so even if this place is expensive (same range as some other high quality sushi places in…read moreBrussels though), it totally deserves its 5-star. Not only will you go to sushi/sashimi heaven, but it is such a joy to watch the sushi chef cut your fish (when you're sitting at the bar). I fell in love with him. Old Japanese man, cutting his fish with all the love he has. He could seriously do it blindfolded. The place itself is very discrete. Nothing too fancy, as well from the outside as inside. From outside, you might even hesitate to enter. However, please do not (if you have the splurge of course). You will not be disappointed. Sushi and sashimi are exquisite, every bite brings you closer to heaven. Offering sea urchin sushis tells you how great this place can be. The non-sushi and non-sashimi dishes are delicious as well and everything that is on the menu makes you want to try it out. We had some appetizers to share: clam miso soup (very good, but maybe really too expensive for what it is. Next time, we'd rather go for this other clam noodle soup that looked succulent, only a little more expensive but a much bigger quantity) and the chawanmushi (flan eel with king crab) which was to die for. King crab was really king crab. Delicious! As for our main course, we had the big sashimi plate and the wagyu beef. Definitely a foodgasm. After that, we still wanted to keep tasting the rest, as everything was so good. So, we decided to order some extra sea urchin sushis (we first wanted sashimi style, but the chef was so nice to warn us that that would be way too expensive, so we decided to stay with the sushi ones) and we definitely did not regret to end our meal this way. Well, we still ordered some ice creams (green tea and black sesame) to really end our dinner and to give us some time to consider already what we could try on our next visit here. I noticed they have some very affordable lunch menus. That should definitely be worth the detour if you don't want to empty your bank account. Anyways, for me, this is my new favourite Japanese "joint", just because I fell in love with the sushi chef.

It is certainly a strong contender to that title. Chef Suetsugu Yosuke has brought 30 years of…read moreexperience as a sushi master in Japan all the way to our plates in Brussels. The restaurant is a favorite of the Japanese community, so be sure to book as it is not big and always very busy. Sushi and sashimi are fantastic. Alone they make this place special, but the rest of the menu simply adds to it by offering a range of delightful dishes which are worth trying. Sit at the sushi counter on a first visit, always nice to see the chef working his magic. Food aside, the place is very nice though unfortunately service is sometimes below average. It is also not cheap, even maybe a bit overpriced, but that is unfortunately common for any good high end Japanese restaurants in Brussels. Parking can be a challenge but bus and tram make their way here regularly given it is next to the ULB university.
