    Take away Makisu
    Sofia R.

I have been to Makisu regularly over 1 year and a half because it is near to my university. The makis are good for that price but I have seen how their quality has gotten worse over time. They don't put so many toppings anymore and specially the chicken in the makis doesn't seems very fresh anymore. The restaurant is very small and has no more than 10 tables, so I always have to do take away. I think Makisu is extremely overrated.

I love this place!!!! It is the simplest, coolest fusion Japanese sushi place I've been in Europe! And I'm not exaggerating! They've got all my favorite kinds of Japanese such as Donburi (a rice bowl topping with raw tuna, raw salmon, tempura, yakitori and so on on your choice) and different maki sushis (fusion). My favorite ones are tuna donburi and spicy pueblo maki sushi. I really love the spicy pueblo!! I could eat like a 100 of them (this one I exaggerated!)!!! Unfortunately, I didn't get to stay in Brussels long enough to try all the menus. Next time if I were in Brussels, I'd go here again for sure!

Top to bottom, tuna, salmon with cream, Dragon rolls(with shrimp),up the river(salmon).

It's not bad. But we are disappointed with the sushi place in Brussels in general. We never had satisfying sushi in this city. Or maybe there are some good places but too expensive for us to try(we can only go with around 20ish per person each). At least in Amsterdam we had better ones for the same price. The sushi the have are only iso rolls, the square ones. No nargini or other types. There are 8 different types to choose from. 8pieces per portion. We odered four different portions, Dragon rolls with crispy shrimp, up the river and slaming salmon with salmon, another with tuna. Usually we prefer salmon than tona, but the tuna one was surprisingly most delicious out of the four. Then comes Dragon rolls, then up the river, salmon with cream the last one is really not our type.

Makisu 2 is a success! Different place, same delicious sushi. Great location, bit bigger than the one in Ixelles.

Small (but giant) vegetarian donburi bowl

SUCH a yummy and innovative sushi place. As someone a little nervous about raw fish in sushi (I know, I'm a little weird), I still had so many options on the menu to choose from. I ended up choosing the special veggie Maki with asparagus and a small vegetarian donburi bowl. Both were so delicious and tasted so fresh. The donburi bowl was so much bigger than I expected and perfectly filling. The flavors of the veggies went so well with a drizzle of soy sauce and plenty of pickled ginger. The inside of the restaurant was very crowded so I was nervous about finding a seat, but we ended up getting a spot right on the side counter. I would definitely be back for a healthy, inexpensive and delicious meal!

Chose my own ingredients for this roll. Great quality!

Affordable and delicious. It is a self service place and the menu offers lots of different options. The only thing is it was cold inside.

Good food, reasonable price and friendly staff. Good place to get sushi. It was recommended by a local and we enjoyed it!

We ordered the Spicy Pablo and the Philly Roll (if you like cream cheese in your sushi) and both were delectable.

We tried calling several times to make a reservation, but no one answered, and we couldn't find any online booking system. It left us wondering--how do people even manage to get a table here? When we arrived, we saw an empty table with no reservation sign on it. However, the chef saw us, came over, and abruptly said, "We're full!" before we could even ask a question, then walked away. One of the staff members also completely ignored us, which felt quite rude and unwelcoming. No matter how good the food might be, this kind of attitude makes us not want to return. They seriously need to improve their reservation system and reconsider how they treat potential customers.

I have been here 3 times now already and the third time has only confirmed the first impression I…read morehad when I first came here. This place is for me the best sushi place as far as quality/price is concerned. The quality of the sushi is just exquisite and definitely equals that of some other restaurants who offer the same freshness and variety but for double the price. Seriously. Nevertheless, it is not only about the sushi. The restaurant offers a separate menu with the house suggestions presenting different kinds of Japanese appetizers that are really delicious and so ... Japanese. The best way to enjoy these appetizers is to order a bunch of them and share them. The last time I went there, my friends and I had the squid carpaccio (in a citrusy juice), agedashi tofu (fried to perfection), eggplant in miso sauce (I'm not a big fan of eggplant, but this dish was a game-changer), layered eggplant with beef (very tasty) and an assortment of tempura (not greasy at all and crusty until the end of our meal). We wanted to order the o-toro (fatty tuna) sashimi as well, but they don't have that one on Mondays, which means I will have to come back. But I don't see that as a problem, :). After our appetizers, we continued our meal with some sushi and sashimi. As already mentioned earlier, exquisite. As far as the place itself is concerned. Well, let's say it makes you feel in a small sushi joint in Japan. The place is small - but cozy -, so reservation is recommended. There is no AC, but only a couple of fans working in times of warm weather, definitely gives it a local feeling. On some days, it can be filled with Japanese people who really know how to enjoy their food, which makes you really feel as if you were in Japan for a little bit. Another nice factor is that you can order a bottle of shoju and leave it there with your name if you weren't able to finish it, so you can continue the next time you come again. Neat, isn't it? So, to conclude, there is definitely nothing that would stop me from going there again. Ok, I forgot to mention that the waiter can come off as a little bit arrogant. However, once you start chatting with him, he is unstoppable. :). The chef on the other hand doesn't say much, but I blame that on the fact that he's very concentrated behind the sushi bar, so no big deal. Can't wait to go there again.
