    Vegetarian ramen

Truly excellent ramen spot in Brussels. Best vegetarian ramen I've had. Service is good. Can sit inside on the first floor, second floor, or outside. Edamame was good also.

Great ramen! Ordered the "Ramen of the chef" and it looked and tasted outstanding!

    Spicy Ramen

If you're over fries and mussels, etc this ramen spot is great Totally on point with delicious broth and fresh noodles. I got it to go didn't wait more than 3 minutes. Ramen is delicious- broth is nice and spicy with good deppof flavor. Recommend this for a quick stop of great food.

    Kara miso ramen! So good

Delicious ramen right in the middle of town! Happened to wander in here looking for a lunch spot one day. I had the Kara miso ramen and was very satisfied! The broth was so flavorful and the veggies on top were very fresh. The restaurant itself was is a beautiful but small place that combines a vintage wood with modern steel for a cool vibe. Service was excellent, and I was served quickly and courteously. When I asked for the chef to hold the egg and meat my waitress had no problem with this and was nice about, a rare find in Brussels. The only reason I don't give it 5 starts is because it it on the pricey side for a bowl of broth and noodles with 14 euros for the cheapest bowl.

It was great, some of the meat was a little cold. A little pricey for Ramen, but was within walking distance from our staying location.

Anata is a strange/non-poetic name for a sushi bar. Wonder if they're going with a simple "you" or…read moresomething else. I'm no expert though. However, prices seem to be reasonable or cheap for the area. Their lunch specials were particularly enticing too. Portions were far bigger than we anticipated. Though, honestly, wish I had just gotten sushi. I picked a salmon bento lunch special and we also got a tori bento. Salmon bento came with a seared filet of salmon with a sauce, two salmon sashimi, tempura + sauce, four gyoza, rice, and miso. Overall, fairly decent and in a bigger portion. Tempura was really nice and the sashimi seemed fairly fresh. Something I later wished I'd just ordered alone. The salmon filet with sauce was so-so and looked good, but wasn't particularly tasty to me. Fried gyoza would have been nicer with a sauce. I'm unsure if the sauce provided was for both of the tempura and the gyoza though. Tori bento had a nice bit of terriyaki chicken, fried egg over rice, more tempura with a different sauce, miso, and kimchi. The kimchi felt a little out of left field for me, but wouldn't complain about getting kimchi. If it wasn't for the lunch prices I don't believe I'd actually have ever came here and would have found it a big rip off. The restaurant is nice for some okay Japanese style food, but nothing I'd desire to pay more than what I had. Service was nice/standard amount of reservation. Maki and sushi looked really good though. If the sashimi was any indicator of its worth then that would have been my first choice had I known. Bento boxes are good if you're looking for something heavy.

And as expected, the ramen as well as the yaki soba tasted like Chinese food rather than Japanese. The ramen soup was bland and there was not much flavour, same for the yaki soba. The only saving grace is the sashimi we had, which was rather fresh. Overall, we were really disappointed with our 40euros spent on Chinese rather than Japanese food.

Okay, really a 3-star place but because this was exactly what we were looking for to satisfy our…read moreramen craving while abroad, it gains an extra star. A disclaimer: I realize that I'm probably spoiled by the mass of ramen joints that are in the Bay Area. As a result, I judge ramen places pretty highly. The 3-star rating is not to say that the ramen was terrible, but it is certainly not ranked among the best. Tonkotsu Ramen. Usually when I think of tonkotsu, I think of a rich and flavorful broth, as tonkotsu is traditionally stewed from pork bones for hours and hours. This broth fell a bit short of flavorful. The noodles, pork, and toppings were delicious (I always appreciate a perfectly soft boiled egg), but the broth is really what makes or breaks a ramen to me. Kara Miso Ramen. For those who like a bit of spice with their ramen. Or maybe not a bit of spice? I'm usually a super wimp when it comes to spice, and the slightest hint will have me reaching for a glass of water to rinse it all out. This one didn't do too much for me. I felt a little bit of heat lingering on my tongue afterwards, but I was expecting a bigger kick. The meat on this bowl was also a little dried out. I can definitely see why this place would do well in this neighborhood; it fulfills a need that is missing, which is exactly why we ventured into Umamido. Great for an area that is slim on authentic ramen choices; not so great for someone who comes from an area that is saturated with ramen.

One of the few Asian restaurants you will find here, they serve ramen and only ramen, except for a plate of gyoza I saw at the table next to me. There is a choice between 5 types and I went with the shio or natural flavor. It was slightly heavier than the normal shio broth but lighter than a traditional tonkatsu. It had all the right notes of umami. The noodles were handmade and slightly larger and softer than I generally like them but held the broth well. The perfect amount of toppings with an egg, charsiu, sprouts, bamboo shoots and spring onion. For €12 a bowl, it was excellent value. I would say the only thing that could help it land 5 stars would be a better ambiance. It was quiet as a library, no music and just a handful of customers for an early dinner. However I would definitely return to try another lovely bowl!

Kitchen is perfectly clean, neat and purposefully arranged for efficient cooking and serving. Staff speaks Japanese (except the two western ladies). All were very kind and the service was swift. I was a bit disappointed by the gyoza. They were good but a bit too greasy to my taste. It was prepared in front of my eyes (boiled then panned) and nothing noticeable happened. My Shoyu ramen with extra slices of pork was quite good but there again the soup base was a bit too oily/greasy to be perfectly to my taste. Bottom line, I'm giving a 4th star to the boss (I assume he was) because he speaks English and Korean (thumbs up), besides Japanese and was very nice with me. I will come back with friends and hope they will have fine-tuned the "greasy" part in the meantime.
