We went for a quick lunch and there were only another couple in there. Our waitress took a phone call and then came to seat us. As I was looking around I noticed that things didn't look really clean. We ordered our food which was a sushi roll some fried rice and some crab rangoon. It didn't take long for our crab Rangoon to arrive followed by the sushi roll and the fried rice. I have been eating at Sumo Sushi for years, since the restaurant opened and was originally owned by two brothers. There have been times that the food was amazing and times it could have been better. This being said, I have never sent anything back returning faithfully almost weekly spending as much as $150 each weekend as well as occasionally ordering on doordash. Tonight was the first time I have ever returned a dish. The dish was ordered spicy, but was so spicy it was inedible. We requested a replacement dish and sent the order back to the kitchen. As such, you can imagine my surprise when I was charged for the dish that was sent back. After requesting the item be removed, the owner/manager, John. refused to issue a credit despite knowing I was a regular customer and the kind of money I spend in his establishment on a regular basis. I am a huge advocate of supporting local businesses and that will not change. However, I will not be returning to this merchant as he would rather allow a loyal customer walk away and give up 150/weekly than issue a 12.95 credit for something that was inedible. read more

When we moved to Haslet I knew I needed a good sushi place near me and this is it! Their Haslet roll is a fan favorite in our house.

Had given up on this place months ago but out of convenience stopped by with my kids. I was talking to my kids but I remember looking at the menu and not seeing prices? Has anyone else noticed this? Fried rice used to come nicely present in a bowl shape, my son said "wow, it's different now, like they just thrown on the plate". Not sure if maybe hides the smaller portion size. I had the Rubi Ocean which was my favorite and it's now paper thin to the point I did t really taste the fish. Had another sushi - can't remember the name - which was better and nicely presented but no real taste of sushi. It's wasn't bad but just expected better. Boys only had chicken fried rice, only two sodas. Had to ask for refill. So imagine to my surprise when I got the bill for 1 adult and 2 kids at almost 62 dollars before tips. Yes. Now it's definitely the last time and I hope this warns others. While I understand prices and cost of living are high now but it's hard for families too. A plate of chicken fried rice for almost 13 dollars for a child - They don't have kids menu. Now I know why the place was empty when we walked in. My fault for not asking, but WAY to expensive. Can't believe this place charge .50 cents for ell sauce and don't even fill it up. I ordered 4 for $2 gave them $20. They gave me back 1 five and a bunch of ones. Lucky I remember my mother saying "always count your change". I counted $17 and asked the cashier how much she said the cost was, she said $2.17 with the tax. She said they don't give back change. WTF! So I said, you decide to keep my .83 cent, without telling me anything, and not even give me an extra sauce at least. This was the second time going to this restaurant, last time was a year ago and I NOW remembered I said I never come back. The sushi is average, like a 6 out of ten. Price is a bit higher the other of my favorite sushi restaurants. The service both time was not great. The Asian management hires a lot of high school kids to work the front counter. Both time I noticed they would yell..or talk aggressively to the workers. This is the only Sushi restaurant within a few minutes from our home. If I could give this place no stars, that would be fitting. Depressing atmosphere with poor selection of sushi. Prices were high and service was not welcoming. I would have walked out before ordering but thought I'd give it a try. Worse sushi roll ever. I've had better sushi at the grocery store which isn't saying much. . I decided to come here because there aren't too many non-fast food options in this area near my job. Pretty good sushi, their plate presentation is however very impressive. I came in during lunch and my 1 sushi roll was impeccably presented with a fresh plumeria and star shaped dollops of wasabi. I ordered the spicy crunch roll and gyoza. The gyoza needed a little more flavor in the filling, otherwise it was crunchy and perfectly cooked. The spicy crunch roll was good, I just wish it was a little smaller in diameter so it could be easier to eat. Overall, the food is good and I would come here again due to convenience. read more

Went here with my father and ordered some dishes and a few orders of Sushi. While not the best sushi in the world, it also wasn't the worst. Had Tuna and Spicy Tuna - my usual go-to faire when I try a new Sushi restaurant out for the first time. Bulgogi was a bit sweet, more like teriyaki than bulgogi. Not very big portions. Had Seaweed Salad, which was pretty much run-of-the-mill that you can get from any other sushi restaurant. Had Calamari - deep fried in a heavy egg batter, very large rings of calamari, so not light and delicate like other places. Came with a sweet chili dipping sauce rather than a light aioli. Atmosphere-wise, seeing as it's located right near a martial arts place, there's a lot of kids and teens here. Doesn't necessarily put off from the experience, but it tends to make the ability to have an adult conversation rather difficult. They could use a bit of a more relaxing musical taste. Listening to 2010's millenial pop in blaring in your ear while trying to eat and relax makes you feel a bit anxious. All in all, it seemed like a fairly generic "we are a sushi restaurant" type of restaurant feel. Nothing particularly original, no "Haslet Roll" or "Fort Worth Roll" on the menu, so nothing that gave it that extra bit of charm. A little overpriced for what you get, but wasn't bad. read more

We've always had a warm and welcoming dining experience with great service. The food is excellent, with plenty of choices for the adventurous. We love the generously portioned Ahi Tuna Tower that has just the right amount of 'kick' (they will mix it for you at the table as is proper). The Oiishi roll is always crisp and refreshing, and great to cool your palette in the hot Texas summers. They often run specials with new dishes to try. Went for lunch based yelp reviews. The positive reviews were right on! Wife had the Ahi Tower and it was huge as well as maybe the best we have eaten. The tuna was piled high and the presentation was outstanding. We both has plenty to eat and ended up taking some home. I had the spicy California roll and it was also good. Not real spicy but adequate. Their rice is not pasty but light and fluffy. The entire staff greeted us with a friendly welcome when we walked in. We went there for lunch with some friends who were working in the area. They wanted Mexican food but I insisted on sushi. Our waitress was great but the sushi was not fresh. The only thing edible was the tuna tower appetizer and the yellowtail . The tuna nigiri was not nearly as good as the tuna on the appetizer. AMAZING fresh sushi! Never disappointed at Sumo Sushi. Great, cozy atmosphere which is perfect for date night or sharing a family meal. The staff is super friendly and the service is prompt. I highly recommend their Ahi Tuna Tower and Las Vegas roll. You eat here with your eyes first as their chefs always make the food look so beautiful. I must also mention their egg rolls are wonderful. So, the waiter that was working is very attentive and knowledgeable. I believe the other younger guy that was working the front is new. Downside of the place is it's overly priced. I went in to order to go 2 Philadelphia Roll's with spicy salmon instead of smoked salmon $2 up charge and asked if I could get jalapeños on the inside. Ended up not getting the jalapeño for another $2 up charge, a miso soup and no drink. I can go to Sushi Axiom and get the same thing wrapped in cucumber instead of rice with jalapeños including a alcoholic beverage and Cajun Edamame for the same price. My total here was almost $30 for two Philadelphia rolls and the soup. Won't be back again. It was convenient for the moment but not worth it. read more
