My 94-year old husband had a steroid injection in his spine by Dr. Choi in June, 2025. When he asked about the risks several weeks before the injection, a team member responded that the only one she could think of was that the injection might not work. Then on the day of the procedure as my husband was being prepared, Dr. Choi came into the room and read a list of possible negative outcomes for the procedure. Learning of these risks at this point was too late to make an informed decision. As a result of the injection, my husband's abilities to walk, stand and balance declined rapidly. We returned to Summit in an attempt to understand why the injection was causing the damage and if the damage would stop. The decline in his functions was met with doubt and an offer of therapy that previously had been ineffective; leaving us feeling there were no possible remedies for his decline. Out of desperation, we consulted another hospital system. The physician there looked at my husband's MRI and: #1. diagnosed and clearly explained to us why the procedure was harming my husband's abilities; #2. Stated that the procedure should never have been done. At this writing, my husband's abilities have not made any recovery. The injection has devastated our quality of life. read more

My husband has had several surgeries with Summit. The surgeon and nurses and everyone really have been good. However, the past 2 years (and 2 surgeries) has left bad feelings about the eagan surgery center. DO NOT schedule our elective surgeries months in advance, tell us to get a preop no longer than 30 days in advance, and then have the anesthesiologist look at that preop THE DAY BEFORE scheduled surgery and find something he/she doesn't like and then call us wanting to cancel/pull/move the surgery (meaning more waiting, more pain, major frustration. Especially since the condition they object to was cleared by cardiologists and primary physician. One time doing this was annoying. Two years in a row is completely unacceptable. Our surgeon was able to get this surgery to happen as scheduled, only after he made several phone calls, etc. But the AFTERNOON before the surgery, two years in a row? Change your practice. Have anesthesia dept review pre ops 2 weeks in advance, giving patient time to remedy perceived problem for anesthesiologist. Or get new unsuspecting patients read more

Visited Summit urgent care after an unfortunate sledgehammer experience involving my finger. Within 20 minutes of checking in I was in x-ray. The PA, x-ray technicians, and radiologist were skilled, knowledgeable, thorough, and thoughtful. The only hiccup was the designated appointment desk was closed so it took a bit longer than anticipated to schedule my follow-up. read more

The Customer service over the phone is AW but the surgeons, wow their like green berets AMAZING. Also staff is good too, these are 2 statements about my surgeons. Dr. Breien When I say the GOAT the GOAT, when I had surgery, nobody could do it. I would have specialist and surgeons say, "you will have this problem for life." Well the GOAT felt different, and did the impossible. I won Region 2 GG and went to Upper Midwest. With one good knee and his rebuilt ACL, he is worth it. Also the GOAT, when lady doctors say they gotta guy. REMEMBER IT MIGHT BE THE GOAT. Dr.Khetia When I had my first surgery it was with with Breien. In the metro nobody did ACL surgery, so Breien was elite. It was painful but considered impossible at the time. When I say he passed me to the baddest MFKER in the metro is a understatement. His skills is flawless, of course the instruments Summit uses is amazing. The first surgery was at Children's Hospital, so cruder tools. At the same time my last two surgeries at Summit have almost been pleasant. In a highly stressful situation, I'm a fighter that has never been night night. So it's very stressful not to be incontrol of yourself. Ashley helped with that, I'm a emotional bum. That being said, "I was supper surprised with the results. I'm fresh out of surgery, so my quad isn't firing right. But you couldn't pray for better results, Khetia is a blessing in disguise. I had both knees replaced (9/23 & 11/23) by Dr Kristoffer Breien and my follow up PT provided by Sean Lynch in Eagan. I highly recommend these providers as my care was excellently and professionally provided with excellent results! Both were affable and approachable, and kept me well informed. Their facility is excellent and nursing staff was attentive. Summit Ortho in Eagan provided excellent preparation info, and excellent aftercare info. They returned calls and answered all of my questions within a day. They are well organized and professional. I would not trust anyone else to provide me with any orthopedic procedures. read more

I started at S.O. because of issues after a knee transplant at another local group of physicians. When Dr. Breien walked into the room he immediately said, "You've got a big problem there." He hadn't even touched me and could see it by the way my knee looked. Since then I had to have that knee replaced again and he has now done my other knee. His team is amazing. They all work well together and are very skilled, kind, and compassionate. No "stuffy" doctors here. Dr. Breien, Nick, and Bryan are all very down-to-Earth, but tell it like it is. I can't speak to any of the other doctors at Summit, but I just LOVE Dr. Breien and his team. read more

I see Doc Castro here at Summit Orthopedic and I can say that the whole experience is good. The reception area is fast and friendly, his team is quick and the Doc himself has a great bedside manner. Making the whole experience less traumatic and less painful. Very Covid forward in everything from the time you sanitize your hands as soon as you walk in, to the questions, temp check and even the pen you sign with is to be taken with you to use. read more

Avoid Dr. Spite and his PA. I was completely disregarded. Accused of chasing doctors because I will create chronic pain. Nothing lead to this. Both talked, or talked over me for 10 minutes. Ask my actual MD or Physical therapist their opinions. Instead I was told with 28 years of working....I am God and I decide. You are a glorified MD and other professionals feel the same. Nothing on the MRI, generalized large area of pain and now a new symptom....you are just creating the problem. Worst bedside, professionalism I have ever experienced. I have a BSN, I work with your same clients. You are fired and I will never send someone your way. Worthless waste of time. So Dr. Spite....I spite you and your lack of knowledge. But hey, at least you got paid for doing a Worthless job with me. read more

My doctor recommended dry needling for my back and neck pain. I was told there was an extremely small chance of a pneumothorax (collapsed lung) but I didn't need to worry about it, and my physical therapist was highly trained. When one of the needles was inserted, I felt a very sharp pain, and I ended up in the hospital later that night with a collapsed lung. Please do your research on dry needling by major organs, and DONT let ERIK MONSON do dry needling on your upper back/neck area. read more

After sending PT records twice and being told they would be forwarded to their business office. They weren't. I was left with no information, no follow ups, I had to call multiple times to find out they never sent the records and then claimed they never got them after they were signed by their staff. No one answers phones and you always have to leave voicemails. A procedure which should have been done a month ago I'm still waiting on due to their poor patient management. Go anywhere else but summit orthopedic unless you like sitting in pain and feeling abandoned. read more

I have been coming to Summit Orthopedics for about 14 to 15 years due to many sprain ankles with my poor balance and mobility problems due to my developmental disabilities. Some doctors here are great and some don't know how to talk to others with developmental disabilities who have mental health. Summit Orthopedics has gotten worse lately due to Covid and their mask policy. Those who have trouble breathing, high sensory issues, problems seeing due their glasses fogging where they have tried many other masks and face shelds and mental health that has worsened and other medical problems that interferes with wearing a mask and a wide variety of interferences then they need to accept a person and not force and say judging things to patients. If the Governor exempts certain individuals like myself due to medical and disability reasons then why should I be forced or otherwise not be treated. If the Governor has exempted those with medical and disabilities in MN then what gives Summit the right to force the rules if the clinic is in the state where people are exempt who have a lot of difficulty. This ends up hurting the individual where it can worsen their mental health. If someone's mental health is severe a doctor should not put blame on the individual by saying that they are to blame or they are being selfish. What ever happened to an individual's dignity if the Governor has exemptions for those who have trouble breathing, asthma, sensory, mental health and other medical reasoning. read more

I honestly had a really good experience at Summit. I dislocated my kneecap due to a weak MPFL. My knee bent sideways and tore cartilage off, I ended up having loose cartilage bodies in my knee. I came here for my initial orthopedic exam after going to an ER that just diagnosed me with a sprained knee when I couldn't walk for weeks. Dr Klimstra discovered I had torn cartilage that needed to be removed arthoscopically and that I needed an MPFL reconstruction because I'd had the dislocation issue prior. I ended up having surgery here with Dr Klimstra for a full MPFL reconstruction and loose body removal. I'm 1 week post surgery and I'm honestly really happy with where I'm at. I can already walk on my knee after a pretty big surgery. I was up and about the day after when the nerve block wore off. I think the urge to write a review comes from how the staff treated me during my surgery. I have diagnosed severe anxiety and panic attacks. Surgery day was a lot for me, I was bordering on a meltdown after worrying about it for days prior. The nurse who took care of me prior to surgery, I believe his name was Ryan, treated me so well and was very compassionate with my fear. Very understanding with great bedside manner. The anesthesiologist listened to me when I told him I was terrified of my nerve block shots and after me telling him about my fear, talked me through every step of the process and properly sedated me for the shots, which honestly was needed with my level of anxiety. Dr Klimstra who was the initial doctor who examined my knee and who did my surgery, seems to have done an excellent job as I've had very minimal pain and so far no issues with healing. I expected it to be much worse of a healing process honestly. I think it was extremely important that they took my fear of surgery seriously because ultimately I found the experience not to be traumatizing but rather comforting. Even the staff who helped me get dressed after the surgery were very nice and friendly to me, as well as the employee who helped get me into my car after the procedure. Overall, I just felt like I had a really good and humanized experience and I was so relieved that it was a positive experience when I had so much fear going into it. I think this is necessary when you're working with people in their most vulnerable moments. read more

Very disappointed with the performance of this place, if you visit please be cautious and make sure you get a second opinion before proceeding to what have they prescribed! I went in for a ankle sprain and Dr. Voight diagnosis the ankle & lower leg pain is cause by my back problem and prescribed medication and physical therapy and lumber injections for my back. The biggest problem is that I have ankle and lower leg pain because I sprained my ankle and have not experienced any back pain problem, i went to get a second opinion before i decide to get the injection. The results were I have a high ankle sprain and due to I didn't get the proper treatment therefore the tendon have been over stretched! I follow the second Doctor's instructions and now my ankle is feels almost no pain and I be able to walk normal and resume my daily life ! A word of caution, follow your instincts and get second opinions before proceeding with Dr. Voight's prescribed treatment! read more

This is not a fun story! I had a L3-4 transforminal inter body fusion, posterior instrumented fusion, left L4-5 laminotomy, medial facetectomy. So a lot of work. And as far as could tell the surgeon did one heck of a job. On the other hand the treatment I received after the surgery was traumatic. I found myself in a great deal of pain. The nurses on my floor were sleeping at there station all nite so they were missing my medication times over and over. walked out to tell them I needed something for pain and was treated like I was a Nuisance. And one girl said I got in her face and was belligerent ( not at all ). They would miss my med times and I would be hurting so I probably was sarcastic. When they brought me ice packs she simply said lean forward and threw the ice pack behind me no placements. Well at about 4:30am I decided that I was going to go smoke a cigarette ( worst decision I ever made) walked past the three sleeping nurses. Down the elevator, said good morning to the security guard and slipped out the front door to calm myself down. In my pajamas I IV still in my hand hurried and smoke my cig. It was 3 degrees outside . I went back to the door and it was locked rang the bell he cleared the call. I started crying because I realized that I made a horrible mistake. The guard finally came to the door yelling threw the glass that I was not aloud back on the property and I needed to call a ride. I explained that all my stuff was in the hospital room. I was on a head full of medicine and wasn't thinking clearly. He said I need to leave the premises immediately. So I asked if I could use his phone and I would call for an ambulance to come bring me to a different hospital because I could barely walk and was in so much pain. The security guard then called the cops and reported me as trespassing on the property and I was asked to leave several times and would not leave. ( I was in pajamas, still had an IV in my hand, 3 degrees out, no phone, closest ride was 1 1/2 hours away). Cops come and tell me if I don't leave they will have no choice but to arrest me for trespassing. At this point the nurses came down and threw my backpack on the ground and took the IV out. I wasn't supposed to be lifting over 5 pounds now I got a backpack and garbage bag with other property in it and about 250 yards to the nearest gas station over an icy parking lot in 3 degrees to wait for my ride.. I started recording and they calmed down but I was almost hog tied and thrown in the squad The language that they chose to use was setting me up looking like a criminal. Nurses called my mom and told them I left. Guard called the cops and said I refused to leave. I found out that all 3 nurses and the guard were from a temp agency. Non the less the whole experience was completely inhuman and disregard for human life. I feel like I screwed up my whole surgery over a stupid cigarette and misunderstanding. We have an enemy in this world and those people were on board with him. I have never been threw such insanity! I recorded most of it so check out the news channels that's my next rout unless my back is messed up I don't need money. But those 4 people need to lose their jobs immediately. And I will see to it... summit orthopedic needs to have there employees in the building this all could have been avoided. In less than 16 hours from my surgery I was kicked to the cold and almost arrested. Because I had no ride close enough. read more

Unfortunately Summit misdiagnosed my daughter with a broken knee. They gave her a leg brace and told her to come back the following week. I fortunately brought her to Gillette the next morning and they were prepared to give her surgery to prevent her knee cap from separating. Gillette diagnosed her with a common over use injury as she is a gymnast. They told her not to wear the brace as it would cause pain and muscle wasting. She rested her knee for four weeks and she is fine now. I filed a grievance with Summit and they refused to take the brace and appointment fee off bill. I will pay for x-ray, but I now have filed complaint with attorney general. I would not recommend bringing children to Summit as they have growth plates and need a pediatric person to diagnose them. read more

Having had a nerve root injection, first day was hopeful but by second day, pain started back with great intensity. I call number on discharge paper and was redirected to voicemail. Left message and waited. Four hours later got a call it was directed to wrong voicemail. Redirected and again waited . No call back so finally went to urgent care and got help for pain. Left another message at summit. I tried again ..ok a week finally a person answered instead of voicemail. Finally got a call back that afternoon. I read more

Reception was a bad start. Front desk staff spoke in a robotic monotone, telling me to do this and that, never once looking up to make eye contact, smile or in any way make me feel like a human being who was welcome. This, obviously, was not a person who enjoyed her job, and seemed bound and determined that no one else experience any warm feelings. Unfortunately, I want to feel like more than a slab of meat waiting to be processed when I seek medical tx. This was a bad start. Then, the PA was initially a bit condescending - not in an arrogant way, but simply presuming (wrongly) that I was medically uninformed/ignorant; she talked down to me in a somewhat patronizing fashion, but, to her credit, did adjust her approach once she recognized I wasn't a dolt. It didn't help that the treatment records faxed two days earlier with referring concerns never made it to my doctor or the file. MD was OK. Care may be fine, but I also want to feel respected by my "medical team." I didn't. Doctor was respectful enough, but staff fell short. Front desk staff needs to be replaced, IMO, and PA and ancillary staff more sensitized to patients who don't want to be patronized. Or maybe I just wasn't having a good day. In either event, I didn't feel good about my visit. It erodes my confidence in the MD's opinion. I will now have to seek a second opinion elsewhere. If you don't mind sterility in your medical tx setting, no worry. But if you want to be treated more like a human, than a specimen, weigh my experience against the quality of the actual medical service. read more

I've been part of another large "Clinic" in the metro area but was not happy at having to wait so long for specialist appts. I came to Summit and was able to see a specialist within 4 business days. The Dr. questioned the radiologist's summary of my MRI and right in his office, the Dr. called him and discussed the discrepancy, finally coming to a conclusion. Great customer service. I have been really impressed with Summit and have recommended them to everyone I know. From the front desk to the nurses and Dr's., I have been very impressed with their professionalism and courtesy. read more
