I came to the Maple Grove location for a knee injection. The clinical assistant was friendly but misinformed and somewhat incompetent or unprepared. I am glad I found out before they injected me with cortisone because I requested hyaluronic gel. I was extremely satisfied with Aaron, Dr. Hartigan's PA. He immediately put me at ease, explained what I could expect going forward. I will continue to put my trust in TCO, but am highly disappointed with your clinical assistants read more

While I can't fault the care that my son received (one appointment - nothing extensive or complicated), their billing department sat on the bill for 6 months before sending to insurance which resulted in us not being able to get reimbursed by our HRA. When I called to find out why they took so long to send the bill to insurance they tried to blame the insurance company. I had already spoken to the insurance company who had given me dates that proved Twin Cities Orthopedica sat on it for 6 months. When I relayed those dates the woman I spoke with was very aggressive and asked me what I expected her to do. I said I wanted to know why it took 6 months and she said that that's just the way it is. Very rude, very dismissive, very unhelpful. I would definitely reconsider going there simply based on their billing department and rude customer service. read more

As well as the surgery went and my recover is going, I cannot say I would recommend anyone to TCO / Excel for their care. The billing has been very frustrating. I was told I had to pay 7 days in advance, the amount remaining of my deductible / out of pocket expense. I paid the $4000.00 that was required out of my HAS account on 06-01-2026. The problem is this payment was never relayed to Medica. So to Medica, I still had the full amount of remaining out of pocket to meet. I am getting Medica EOBs and bills where I owe payment even though my early payment for the hip surgery brought me to within $100 of my max out of pocket. I now have the challenge of tracking all my other bills, EOBs and payments and then somehow convey those to Medica and to TCO Excel to figure how to get a refund for payments beyond my max out of pocket total. Taxes may be an issue if it cannot be refunded back into my HAS account (HSA account is tax differed). This is very frustrating. If I could go back, I would not have paid the up front money or would have gone a different route for my hip replacement and not use TCO Excel. I have had disk replacement in my back, the early surgery on my hip, and my wife had a hip replacement at other providers. No prepayment was required for those surgeries and billing was not as confusing or required effort on my part to track my payments. read more

Twin Cities Orthopedics - Don't wait too long. - Orthopedists Near Me - Edina, Minnesota

I have had the worst experience with their Medical Record service. I requested for releasing my medical records on an emergency basis (rush request) to release them in 24 hours for an upcoming surgery that needs to happen asap. When I called the customer service explaining the urgency, they wouldn't listen to anything unless I submit a request online, which is understood. The drama began after submitting the request. It has been more than 10 days and the records are still in process - I called them everyday in the last 10 days and each time I hear the same message that they are trying their best to release them asap. I asked for a supervisor a few times, and after keeping me on hold for almost 30 minutes, they came back saying that no supervisor is available to talk and a supervisor would call me back asap. I doubt if they have any supervisor because I haven't received any call back from the supervisors. I think their license should be revoked because they cannot mock around with people's lives. read more

They're private equity owned, so the doctors need to see a patient every 10 minutes. This means they're always trying to run to their next appointment as quickly as possible. They're also incompetently run, as they canceled an appointment without giving me any notice. read more

Dr. Amundson is a very down-to-earth experienced physician who relates well with me. He describes each process as he's performing it, and has ready easy-to-understand answers to each of my questions. He's also very punctual and efficient. read more

I started with Dr. Nessler who was very nice. He referred me to Dr. Hofkens for PRP therapy. I found Dr. Hofkens to have a very phony bedside manner, but I just wanted to get through this procedure as soon as possible, so I just stuck with him. After the procedure , his manner changed and it was clear to me that he just wanted us gone. I asked if I could get after care instructions. He said, no, I don' give them. Every patient is different. He appeared indifferent to my need. This resulted in arguments with my husband. I called his nurse who seems annoyed by my questions. When I heard nothing about getting a physcial therapy referral I called his nurse again. When a week went by without her returning my call, I called Dr. Nessler's nurse. She then called Hofken's nurse who finally returned my call. As a result, I missed getting physcial therapy by a week. It was not a good experience. read more

my appointment and then I went to urgent care and that was great and then when I had surgery and then my follow up after surgery

if it wasn't an emergency situation, I never would've chose these people. They WAAAAAAY under medicate their patients. I had a hip surgery, and I suffered more than I have ever in my life. Please please seek out other options and do not go here. read more

I came here after having extensive wrist pain for weeks and it was making life a little difficult. Fortunately they do walk in appointments (they said urgent care and walk in are similar to them). I didn't have to wait long since it was a slow day and I am a healthcare provider myself, I thought it could've been a wrist fracture. Thankfully it wasn't with the quick service and x ray reading they were able to get me. My wrist has been healing well now with the tips the PA gave me! I had tendinitis and fortunately I was able to get the answers I needed to help with the treatment! Recommend here if you have orthopedic issues rather than going to the standard ER or urgent care! read more

It's clear TCO is focused on revenue over patient outcomes. Dr. Larson upsold throughout every step of a workup and post operation complications on first hip. This "top doctor" even tried to sell me on a simultaneous knee arthroscopy for a minor issue during my next hip surgery. There have been significant code discrepancies, lack of patient education, dismissing non operative options as not viable, and misdocumenting the wrong hip/side of the body. I requested that visit summaries/documentation be corrected when the wrong side of the body was noted by multiple departments after multiple years attempting to recover normal daily function. The PT answer I received was: "It's billed the same either way". I made multiple verbal and written requests to get this amended and when finally updated, it still short changed the reality of the worse symptoms with surgery outcome. Still no ins record of the procedures performed during 1st of 2 operations (with extra and uncommon precedure). Their objection handling has all been revenue based rather than patient health. I would not trust their "research" and medical journals pumped out in favor of FAI hip $urgery. Complete disregard for life changing impacts when extra procedure they sold (misrepresented) totaled that hip and created major spine issues. Inept at best, purposefully misleading at worst. read more

I have gone to these doctors since the first two doctors started the clinic almost 60 years ago and I've had nothing but the best of care

Was treated for spinal surgery by Dr. Crowe. The whole process was very impersonal and rushed and looking back made me wish I would have gone with my instinct to go somewhere else. He has a terrible bedside manner and my hospital stay was nothing like they told me it would be. Once I was done with surgery, I barely talked to the doctor ever again. He didn't even come see me after surgery in the hospital. Overall terrible experience and traumatic. You're just a number and money maker for the doctor and that business. It's sad. read more

Dr: EDWARD SZALAPSKI JR I saw this "Doctor" twice. Both were super rushed, if he spent 5 minutes in the room I would be surprised. I came to see both hands and shoulders. He did a quick test of one shoulder and sent them in to do a cortisone shot. I had to track him down later to make sure he knew I primarily came my hands/wrists. He placed an order for one hand even though I mentioned I had sever problems with both. The second appointment he told me to simply wear a brace for 3 months and hope it gets better. I then went and saw a general neurologist at another clinic for my back. She put in an ordered for rehab and was quite concerned with his "solution" of just wearing a brace for 3 months without movement/exercise. After that I saw another Hand specialist outside of TCO (Allina). He actually spent about 30 minutes in the room with me. Listed about my left hand. Found out I had a torn ligament and my bones were no longer in their correct place. I'll never go to TCO again. read more

My review is regarding customer service in billing. On 11/10/22 I called to arrange a payment plan on a 600.00 bill. I asked if I could create an auto payment of 50.00 each month. She said it'd have to be 106.00 a month and that would be the best she could do or 53.00 every 2 weeks. I explained my hardship and she showed no empathy. I said I couldn't do that and I would have to call back. She said, "Ok" as though she really didn't give a crap about me making an effort to take care of my bill. Sooooo, unprofessional!! That really was discouraging and really wished I would of gotten her name. The care there was excellent. Michelle W-T read more

I have arthritis in my neck and my neck was forward on my shoulders by 7 inches. I went to TCO Oak Park heights and saw Kaitlyn Rolando MS, PA-C. They took an X-ray of my neck. Dr. Justin A.Walker at TCO - DO NOT GO TO THIS MAN for your orthopedic needs!!!! He assured me at my initial surgery that he was confident he could fix my broken hip. Poor customer service from the orthopedic surgeon and orthotist, all the way down to the PT guy who handled my ankle surgery, custom orthotic and rehab. I've had medical care from the Mayo Clinic for the past 5-6 years and I know what excellent medical looks like. I did NOT receive excellent medical care at Twin Cities Orthopedics Burnsville. From doctors not showing up to appointments (sent PA in instead to inform me that I needed ANOTHER ANKLE FUSION!! This is serious stuff and he didn't even show up to tell me this himself!! Seriously dude?!?) The orthotist was supposed to order my orthotic- a 2/3 week process. After inquiring repeatedly for a week if the order was in, I finally get the snippy billing department person on the phone who claims she sent multiple messages to me! Really?!? There's no record on my cell or land line that she called. When I went in to see if I needed another fitting? Trip #2 that day, I get presented with paper work to sign off on my agreement to pay the difference between my 80% allowable through insurance and the 20% portion I agree to pay out of pocket. All they cared about, in my opinion, throughout this entire process, was the dollars they could soak me for! And so I close with words for the CEO that TCO BURNSVILLE needs to work up to the words he writes in their brochure! read more

Dr Sherman at TCO did an ALIF fusion on my lower back for degenerative disc disease and ended up cutting the nerves that control my ejaculate. I now have retrograde ejaculation, which means that my sperm/semen now shoot backwards into my bladder instead of out. Besides the obvious downsides, I also may now not be able to ever father children as a result of their incompetence. I would NEVER recommend this procedure to any guy around my age or younger (I'm 38). I am beyond frustrated with TCO, after talking with a Urologist today, he said this risk is actually common with this specific procedure (which was NOT relayed to me by TCO in advance), and that it may be permanent. On top of it all, my original back pain is even worse now than before my surgery.! You gotta wonder if they know how to do this surgery safely, or if it was even the best procedure for me and my situation. Men, go to TCO at your own risk! You've been warned!!! read more

Advice - if they make you wait more than 20 minutes, leave. Better advice - see someone else. Anyone else. 9:20 am and the waiting room is full of people waiting much longer than the 20 minutes I've already done. I let the receptionist know and then I left. As a prior medical professional of 30 years, I can tell you, this is not normal. It is rude and completely disrespectful of the patients' time. The culture of this company is rotten to the core. The ONLY way to fix it is if each and every patient gets up at leaves once it is 20 minutes past their wait time. I can guarantee you their abusive behavior will magically fix itself, because they cannot charge for appointments that didn't happen unless they want to be caught up in fraud charges by the state and the state medical board. Better yet, don't even both trying to see these folks. The reviews tell the story plan enough: they have zero respect for the people they claim to serve. read more

In 2017 while treating with Dr. Bakker for a torn rotator cuff, I was referred to Dr. Wulf for my knees. X-rays revealed I was bilaterally bone on bone eventually requiring both to be fully replaced. I am 4 weeks post-op from my first replacement and I couldn't be happier. Surgery was performed at the Crosstown Surgery Center, which is so much more relaxing and less complicated than a hospital. Dr. Wulf and his office and surgery team, all the way to the physical therapist, has a genuine interest in my well-being. Every single person in my treatment pod makes me feel peaceful. This is the same for Dr. Bakker and his team when treating my shoulder. For any orthopedic needs, I highly recommend using Twin Cities Orthopedics. Dr Owen O'Neill did my knee surgery he was fab . He listens and helps you thru the process. I would recommend him in a heartbeat.

I had two hip replacements done using the Birmingham method at TCO. One fractured my femur and the other is a moderate success at best. I was not given full information and was actually told by 2 other TCO surgeons that they used to use that method but don't any more. One wouldn't tell me why. The other one told me because of the greater possibility of fracture of the femur he discontinued the use of this method. As well as the possibility of metallosis because it is metal on metal and the fact that it is a more difficult surgery. I wanted to be able to play racquetball and tennis and could have done that with a typical total hip replacement but I was not told that by the surgeon. There are many more improprieties that I would share if you are interested. read more

I have nothing bad to say about my experience at TCO. Everyone is friendly, kind and the physicians are so experienced and knowledgeable. I called to make a follow appt because my ankle pain made it difficult to walk. It was a long wait until the phone was answered. The appointment desk said they couldn't make an appointment because I had a balance after insurance payment. So she transferred me to the business office. The business office said there was no balance and they would remove the flag. She sent me back to the appointment desk where I was caller number 4 and had to wait a long time again before the phone was answered in order to make an appointment, LONG WAITS TO GET AN ANSWER TO SCHEDULE APPOINTMENT. I HAD TO WAIT TWICE. It sounds like TCO flags your account to not accept appointments until balances are paid in full. It had been around $40 and I paid it a few weeks ago. read more

you can't even get past the RUDE schedulers to make it into this place. schedulers for prosthetics and orthotics are the worst. they must hate their job....i called to get some information and the woman i spoke to proceeded to tell me how to go into their website and find the information. could have just given me the fax number i was looking for. also, they now require that you get a signed form from your doctor (schedule proceeded to ask me if my doctor had completed this ONE PAGE FORM all the way up from the top to the bottom. They refuse to even make an appointment for you unless they have this form, along with medical records. ALL OF THIS FOR YOUR FOOT. Not even seeing a doctor. WORST EXPERIENCE. I had spinal fusion surgery in November. I was sold on their excel program months before I was set to go into surgery. a couple weeks before surgery they called and moved my surgery date a month out and I was told I wasn't going to be having the excel surgery in eagan and having it in a regular hospital. I had a bad gut feeling. Dr. Crowe was my surgeon, he didn't come to see me after my surgery and I was discharged less than 24 hours after arriving in terrible pain. I was not contacted after surgery to see how I was doing. I had to contact them. I've had less than one month of mediocre physical therapy and at month 4, have no further contact with TCO. I've contacted the nurse who tells me to make an appt if I am still having issues. None of this seems like a realistic process to me For this type of surgery. My advice, go somewhere else where you feel you will be cared for. if you have a gut feeling about the doc or anything, switch until you feel comfortable. read more

I have had to go to TCO on several occasions, because of my insurance. They literally did not care at all ever. One time I actually had a provider tell me it it really hurt the pain would be on the other side after he x-rayed it. I ended up having surgery at another facility for a bone spur. Same thing with my knee, "nothing is wrong" and I had a torn meniscus. But the worst I think is them giving me a wrist brace, making me pay the 40 dollars out of pocket and then charging my Insurance company and keeping the money. Which is total fraud.
