Came to Summit after experiencing back pain for about a year. I had a prior back injury from 10 years ago and wanted to make sure it wasn't more damaged. Summit allowed me to schedule online so I made an appointment with one of the spinal drs/surgeons that specialized in compression fracture. I called after I made the appointment to confirm it went through and that I would meet directly with the doctor, which they confirmed. Day-of, my appointment was 30+ minutes late and I met with only a PA/NP that was moving so quickly I didn't even get to describe my problem - he even said if I actually told the doctor what I was experiencing he would tell me my pain was fake. However, he was able to refer me to get an MRI and meet with a non-surgical doctor, so I thought I'd give Summit a second chance. The 2 stars is because my MRI was timely, easy, and I was well cared for. I was able to schedule a follow-up within the next couple weeks to go over the results. This time my appointment was on time, but again I only met with the NP. She was caring and kind, but I could tell she was rushing a bit and it felt very rehearsed. I got a copy of my MRI released to me and a referral for PT and will be going elsewhere for care. read more

For the longest time, I've been going to Summit Orthopedics. There are some good doctors there, for sure, but patient satisfaction, I feel, lately has been slipping. I recently called on an issue with a PA who was not providing me with the service I felt, as a patient, I deserved. When I spoke with the patient advocate, the impression I got is that she was not terrible sympathetic with my issue and overall they failed to provide me with a satisfactory solution. I feel they put their employees over their patients. I'm left with a difficult decision as I do like the current doctor I'm working with, but am not sure it is worth it if they do not take my needs into advisement. read more

I took my friend for her appointment at 9:45 and she was not seen until 10:30. They never said they were running behind. The only redeeming thing was there was free coffee in the waiting room. read more

Summit Orthopedics provided me with one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a medical clinic in my lifetime. I provided an MRI before the appointment, which specifically showed a superior labrum tear in my shoulder. I have suffered with this injury for three months. This has been very painful and has severely restricted my basic daily functioning. Doctor communicated that I could easily find a surgeon that would repair the tear but he would not be repairing the tear and offered some experimental solutions that were not related to the MRI results. I left that clinic upset, in pain and received no help whatsoever and no logical solution. With each passing day the injury gets worse. Doctor did not make one single suggestion that would alleviate the pain while he tried these experimental alternate solutions. Just told me to go home and think about his suggestions. Patient care was non-existent and the doctors ego was front and center. I think this Doctor could benefit from training in active listening, emotional intelligence, empathy and patient care and the benefits of MRI images. read more

I have had three surgeries by the very capable hands of Summit's Woodbury offices . I had a herniated disc, torn knee cap and worn cartilage in my neck requiring disc fusion. All three operation went very well. When I left the operating room, I had a smile on my face as I glided out. My surgeries have been in the last 10 years and I am currently having PT on my shoulder. The staff and physicians have been, caring, thorough and quite qualified. Ii would highly recommend Summit. Their Ortho Quick office is awesome when you're in pain and can't wait. read more

I had an epidural on my neck this morning. Yeah, doesn't that sound like loads of fun ? When you have an epidural on your neck ( which is actually given through the mid to upper portion of your spine ) the procedure itself just takes 4 to 5 minutes. You are given the option to be sedated or not. I choose not. 1. If you choose sedation, you will have that drugged up feeling for the majority of the day. You are also required to have a driver. No exceptions. 2. If you choose the braver route, you will not regret it. This I promise you. After putting on the lovely gowns they offer, the nurse then comes in, makes you put on an even lovelier cap that covers your hair in its entirety and gives you a hep-block which is a small tube inserted into your vein through your arm for easy access, if needed during the procedure. After those things are complete, the doctor comes in and informs you what transpires during the procedure and asks you if you have any questions. The nurse then takes you to a what looked like a sterile operating room with this huge machine, and other surgical type equipment and table that I had to lay on. I was instructed to lay on my stomach with my forehead touching the pillow. The doctor put iodine on my back and told me he was going to give me iodine and then I would feel a prick similar to a bee sting. (I would rather have that prick then a bee sting.) After that, he wasted no time in giving me the epidural which I did feel. The closest thing I can describe it is a feeling of a very sore tooth ache that goes deep in the roots, (of course this took place in my spine though ) At no time at all, despite the unpleasantness, did I ever wish I had opted for sedation. It is honestly not that major of a deal and it is over and done with before you know it. My spine is tender now which has been the last few hours since the procedure, and almost feels as though the needle is still in it. When I bend my neck forward, it is sore, but other then that, l feel pretty decent. The staff is outstanding and thorough every step of the way. I had my low back surgery back in 1989-90 that was called a posterior- anterior fusion and it was the first one that had been done. If someone has back problems that your local Drs. can't fix theses are the people you want. It's 2017 now and I'm still better off than I was back in those crippling days. Dr. Charles Ray has passed on now but his knowledge lives on with all the people that work there. Thank you for giving me my life back. read more
