The last thing I expected was to need rotator cuff surgery during a pandemic, and believe me, I was…read morenot happy to be going in person to see doctors, but this clinic is doing everything right, and I do feel as safe as I think is possible these days when I have to go to see my surgeon or my physical therapists. I agree with everything Leah O. said in her review about Dr. Aimee Klapach, and indeed, Leah's review is a big part of what led me to Dr. Klapach. Some people might think it's strange to find a doctor on Yelp, but I trust my Yelpers!! Before I went to see Dr. Klapach, I had been seeing doctors at FairView University for the better part of last year. I wish I had gone to see Dr. Klapach right away. I doubt she would have made me wait 8 months and jump through numerous hoops before telling me that surgery was inevitable. I can't ever get those eight months back, but thanks to Dr. Klapach, I am slowly getting back my range of motion, and I believe my pain is already less than it was before surgery, most of the time. I just had the surgery in December (which went great, by the way! They do it in an orthopedic facility, not a hospital, so my Covid fears were lessened), so it has only been a short time, and recovery for rotator cuff surgery is notoriously slow. But Dr. Klapach and her assistant Bradley are with you every step of the way, going above and beyond, to the point where the surgeon will actually pick up a phone and call you. Yes, I just about fell on the floor the first time that happened. Dr. Klapach really cares, and so do her staff. I am also really happy with the physical therapists on site. They do a great job, and are available by phone or email if you have questions about the exercises. Side note: They have recently re-branded to Allina Orthopaedics, but they are still the same great clinic with the same caring staff.

Look, I'm not gonna waste your time with all of my injury details. If you're looking at this page,…read moreyou're probably broken and vulnerable, and you just need to know the facts. Fact: "Expert" doesn't begin to describe Dr. Aimee Klapach, MD. She does 270 knee surgeries a year, a fact I kept repeating to myself when I was having anxiety spin-outs in the weeks before my ACL reconstruction surgery. That depth of experience matters when you're literally trusting someone with your limbs. Fact: She's a super conservative surgeon, bless her heart. She never tells me what I want to hear. She tells me what I need to hear. I don't want a risk-taking, skydiving bro giving me health advice. I want someone who's gonna tell me that "If it were my sister, I wouldn't do it" when I ask if I can fly to a wedding a few weeks after surgery because there's a small chance I could get DVT and die. She obviously didn't love disappointing me. But she takes her job seriously enough to be a firm advocate for my healing and my body, and at the end of the day that's what I need. Fact: Her work is excellent. I'm 9 weeks out from surgery and my knee is healing beautifully. I followed her directions and the result is that nothing has gone wrong: no infections, no mistakes, no risks, no mishaps. Just steady improvements day after day, which is all I can really ask for. Fact: She has an incredible team working with her. They called me the evening after my surgery to check in- which at the time felt like an incredible kindness- and when I have questions they always call me back within a few hours. Her scheduler was wonderful, and made sure we had everything we needed to prepare for surgery. I've always found it easy to book appointments, and Dr. Klapach goes to a variety of locations, making it easy to find a time and place that works with my schedule. I feel so lucky that I landed in her care, and can't recommend her enough.

A few days earlier I was stepping up onto a curb and heard a pop in the back of my knee. I was able to walk to where I was going, however after that, it was very painful. After 3 days of icing and tylenol, it wasn't getting much better. Time to have a professional take a look. I considered Urgent Care. Looking around at the different locations, some had x-ray and MRI and some did not. Then I thought about making an appointment with an orthopedist. It was then that I noticed that there was an orthopedic urgent care. I elected to visit the Summit Orthopedics in Woodbury. We arrived when they opened and registered. We were seen within 10 minutes. After taking some pictures of my knee, I met with a gentleman named Larry who examined my knee. He explained and showed us while there is no damage, there is arthritis. I was able to get an injection into my knee which wasn't as bad as I expected. This helped a lot with the pain. He then advised lots of ice and time. Really appreciate the information and care I received at Summit Orthopedics in Woodbury.

When he…read moreasked about the risks several weeks before the injection, a team member responded that the only one she could think of was that the injection might not work. Then on the day of the procedure as my husband was being prepared, Dr. Choi came into the room and read a list of possible negative outcomes for the procedure. Learning of these risks at this point was too late to make an informed decision. As a result of the injection, my husband's abilities to walk, stand and balance declined rapidly. We returned to Summit in an attempt to understand why the injection was causing the damage and if the damage would stop. The decline in his functions was met with doubt and an offer of therapy that previously had been ineffective; leaving us feeling there were no possible remedies for his decline. Out of desperation, we consulted another hospital system. The physician there looked at my husband's MRI and: #1. diagnosed and clearly explained to us why the procedure was harming my husband's abilities; #2. Stated that the procedure should never have been done. At this writing, my husband's abilities have not made any recovery. The injection has devastated our quality of life.

However, the past 2 years (and 2 surgeries) has left bad feelings about the eagan surgery center. DO NOT schedule our elective surgeries months in advance, tell us to get a preop no longer than 30 days in advance, and then have the anesthesiologist look at that preop THE DAY BEFORE scheduled surgery and find something he/she doesn't like and then call us wanting to cancel/pull/move the surgery (meaning more waiting, more pain, major frustration. Especially since the condition they object to was cleared by cardiologists and primary physician. One time doing this was annoying. Two years in a row is completely unacceptable. Our surgeon was able to get this surgery to happen as scheduled, only after he made several phone calls, etc. But the AFTERNOON before the surgery, two years in a row? Change your practice. Have anesthesia dept review pre ops 2 weeks in advance, giving patient time to remedy perceived problem for anesthesiologist. Or get new unsuspecting patients
