This banking institute is screwed up, when it comes to the death of a member. My wife, and myself…read morevicariously as I assisted her, was the POA for her mother while my MIL was in an assisted living home. My wife was on the account as her POA and handled all her financial transactions. My MIL died 2.5 years ago. MY wife went in the very next day and advised them. She was immediately removed from the account, which still had funds in it, which is acceptable based on the law. My wife notified all the entities where her mother received benefits and pensions from, and they closed the accounts. HOWEVER, when US Bank was requested to close the bank account they required a death certificate (understandable) which was provided at the local branch. My wife was referred to US Bank's unit that handles deceased customers. My wife spoke to them and provided them, via fax, a copy of the death certificate as well. For over 2.5 years we continue, up until this day, receiving mail from US Bank in my MIL's name informing of the continued status of the account and US Bank changes to their protocol regarding THE ACCOUNT! My wife went in several times, as well as many phone calls, to get this bank to CLOSE the account and inform them her mother was deceased; to NO AVAIL. She has provided them with a copy of the death certificate several times during this time period. They tell her they cannot talk to her about the account because she was removed as POA, yet continue to send mail (as well as emails) as if her mother is still alive! Some of the employees at US Bank are obviously inept overall. We have given up contacting them about this matter. They really need to get their shit together. Close the account, piss away whatever monies are left in the account (which couldn't be more than 1K as far as we know), whatever that protocol is, and move on! Sheeeeesh...
