The mall is still really nice. I make videos on YouTube showcasing malls and this was one that i reminisced fondly on because I lived and worked in Fairlawn for 5 years, in my 20s. Unfortunately, the security guard told me to stop filming. Sad, because my videos are not meant to bash the mall at all but rather to admire it. Pleastly surprised With so many malls on the downhill it was nice to see one that was busy and full of stores. They have a food court, lots of clothing and jewelry stores plus a few places to get snacks. They also have a great area right in the middle for kids to play. Parking lot was crowded and spots were small. Put many stores have interior and exterior entrances making it easy to shop where you want. read more

Met up with a friend to walk at the mall, since our plan to meet up at the park failed due to the rain. The layouts of the anchor stores were bit weird, the mall is Y shaped. It wasn't busy when we got there, which was nice. We left the mall for lunch, then came back around 4pm and the mall was packed. Couldn't find anyone with mask on, but at the same time you need to look out for yourself. Sadly like many malls in the states, lot of stores were closed. I'm told by my friend that this is the nicer mall in Akron area. Definitely would revisit. read more

Going to kick this new year off right and visit the mall of all places! I can't believe it was open on new years! The mall is a modern looking place with many name brand stores, plenty of local stores, even stores to show pride to the state of Ohio. Regarding Harassment and Retaliation Dillards has absolutely No respect for there employees whatsoever. Dillards does Not even have an HR department. I was an employee at Dillards in Fairlawn, Ohio and on Friday November 3rd 2023 I went to store manager Ashlyn Adams and assistant store manager Dan Varnadoe to discuss a concern about harassment coming from another employee towards me. After I had left the managers office on Friday afternoon I had noticed on Monday November 6th that they had started retaliating against me by cutting my hours. Well behaved, not messy, supervising their kids and yet some mall employee has to come hassle about some empty to go containers (that are coming home to my compost). Then they had the audacity to shut the entire tot lot down for "cleaning" because that's the only power they have to exert. it's an older mall, but it works! it's nice for walking in the winter, the service at the stores is usually pretty good, unfortunately there aren't as many stores to choose from as there used to be, but it has your very basic selection: there's some restaurants on the outside of the main entrance, a food court and Macys, Victoria's secret, shoes... prices aren't bad since it seems to always have a sale going on in one store or another personally i tend to go when i need one of a few things: to walk or new undergarments there's definitely nicer malls around, just in Canton and Cleveland area, no more in Akron read more

I went to the mall during my lunch hour to look for a new wallet/wristlet. The mall looks rather underwhelming from the outside and must have seen better days. The entrance was under renovation and it looked .. bad.. buckets for rainwater in the floor in the hallway, open ceilings. However the stores where quite nice. I stopped at Dillard's and bought a beautiful Michael Kors wristlet. The clerk in the purse department was super nice and very helpful. She showed me different wallets and wristlets and helped me making a decision at the end. I am super pleased with my purchase. I stopped at Starbucks in the mall on my way back to my car. Great staff! They made my coffee just right and to my liking. I would give 5 stars if not for the outside appearance and rainwater buckets in the hallway. read more

This mall was relatively nice from my perspective. We met our daughter for the weekend and stayed at the Doubletree across the street. We spent a little time at this mall and my wife and daughter found some great bargains. It was not so big that it was not manageable and yet had a reasonable array of stores, mostly recognizable names. The food court was a little light on selections but it had a few that were appealing. The Starbucks in the middle hub was where I spent some time sipping on a nice dark roast while they were shopping. I noticed that there were several good restaurants at the front of the mall including First Watch and P.F. Chang's. I have to say that I thought the outside appearance was quite nice as I liked the circular drive by the main entrance. The parking was pretty tight on the Sunday we were there but even parking out on the fringe was not a bad walk to the entrance. The mall vicinity has a few satellite stores and, of course, heading down Market St. toward the highway takes one through a major commercial stretch. So the area in general has many shopping and restaurant options. Overall, this is a decent mall that is manageable in size with a respectable array of shops. It is not the nicest but it holds its own. The food options are not necessarily plentiful but there are definitely still a few good choices. The location near a large concentration of commercial establishments makes it a desirable shopping destination for locals. read more

On March 11th at approximately 7 pm, my daughter (who is an adult) and I went into Victoria Secret at Summit Mall. We went straight to that store because we had coupons that expired after that day. We were in the store looking and shopping for approximately an hour, and approximately half that time my daughter was trying things on in the dressing room and I was helping by getting different sizes for her as needed. Just before 8 pm we were checking out. Our time checking out was a bit longer than normal because two items had to be ordered through their website and shipped because they didn't have the size my daughter needed. While the sales associate was taking care of us she asked if my daughter had chosen the two free panties that we had a coupon for. My daughter asked which panties were included in this and she told her which table those were on. When my daughter went to pick out the panties she noticed Kaitlin Bennett (aka Kent State Gun Girl) in the store. My daughter is a Kent State student and I too went to Kent State. My daughter sent a text to a friend saying that Kaitlin Bennett was in the store. Her friend told her to take a picture to send to her. My daughter did not get close to her. She took a picture of her just walking through the store. She had no lingerie in her hands nor was she looking at anything at that time. She wasn't in a dressing room or headed to a dressing room. In fact, when she actually got to the register after verbally assaulting us and the sales staff she was there to pay $15 on her store credit card. My point in explaining that is that her photo was not taken in any sort of a compromising way. When my daughter took the photo Ms. Bennett started screaming at her as did the man with her. She was asking her why she took a photo and who was she sending it to. My daughter told her that was none of her business who she sent it to. Ms. Bennett was yelling loudly and the man with her started to record. The only negative thing my daughter did or said was she covered her face with her hand while giving the middle finger as the man tried to take her picture. Ms. Bennett was screaming about how my daughter had been stalking her throughout the mall and in the store taking her photos everywhere. This was not true. As I previously explained, we'd been in the store for almost an hour and this was the only store we'd been to at that point. The sales associate only said two things to Ms. Bennett at this point. The first was to say we'd been in the store for an hours so we weren't stalking her. The second was that if she wanted to continue this she would have to do so outside of the store. At one point the sales associate smiled at my daughter and I nervously and Ms Bennett started yelling at her and asking if she thought this was funny and was she taking our side. The associate said that she was taking no one's side. Ms. Bennett and the man with her were calling me a bad mother and asking me if I thought it was okay that my daughter take her photo. I said to Ms.Bennett that she has chosen to make herself a public figure and therefore someone taking her photo in public should be a non-issue. I repeated a few times that she's chosen to make herself a public figure. A sales associate from within Victoria Secret called mall security as Ms. Bennett and the man with her continued ranting. Mall security came in after she'd left Victoria Secret and was asking for a description to the sales associates. At this time I told my daughter to show him the picture. We did not call mall security. The sales associate was correct in calling mall security. What happened after that I am uncertain. My daughter and I went in one other store and left the mall. The staff at Victoria Secret in Summit Mall were courteous to EVERYONE and maintained their professionalism throughout the entire incident. The Summit Mall security agent was nothing but professional in our encounter with him. Here is the most interesting fact though since Ms. Bennett tried to portray this as "Conservative Woman Kicked From Mall After Feminists Stalk Her." Politics were never mentioned, not even once. There was no mention of conservative vs. liberal, feminist or not, or anything having to do with the second amendment issue that Ms Bennett has as her platform. Nothing negative was said to Ms. Bennett or the man with her whatsoever. The only negative things said were by them to us. The headline should have been "Conservative woman and her male friend verbally assault customers and employees at Summit Mall." read more

Stopped by Summit Mall for the first time ever. I've heard of this place, but never visited. I recently moved to the area and am familiarizing myself with my surroundings. There are a ton of places to shop in this area. I'm talking hundreds of stores! The mall has a good selection of stores and small food court with little selection. Nothing really jumped out at me except one store, "Where I'm From" that sells non-licensed Cleveland and Ohio sporting apparel and custom printed shirts, hoodies, and sweaters. They have some prints that Cleveland and Ohio State sports fans looking for unique gear will find pleasing. Also of note was the Apple store with a bunch of people standing around staring at expensive square screens. My square screen cost 1/4 the price of the square screens sold here, but has 90% of the functionality. There are so many other shopping options in this area that I see myself visiting this mall simply to buy custom hoodies from Where I'm From. read more

This mall is going the way of Chapel Hill. Almost as many empty storefronts as actual stores, and lots of things in disrepair. That said, the facility itself is a good size with plenty of parking. The playground in the middle is a nice place to give kids a break and they always have events going like job fairs and visits with Santa or the Easter Bunny. read more

I wish Dragon Bites had a place to review them on Yelp but they don't so I will Leave this here ... you need to find this Kiosk in the mall and spend $9 to be a kid and breath like a dragon! It's so much fun! The crazy little balls are like icy frootloops and not very flavorful but the experience is well worth it. Don't expect to find a parking spot here. Just...just don't. Unless you're going at 10:30 in a Tuesday morning, the place where you need to go will be completely packed through the parking lot. Summit mall is where every teenager wants to go after school and on the weekends, so if you're not a kid-friendly human, or you're just not tolerant of odd teens, then it's probably not the place for you. They have some good food choices; their Chinese restaurant is pretty good, they've got a yummy Auntie Anne's Pretzels, and a cool little sushi bar to visit while you're there. But everything is over priced, sometimes service can be very overwhelming and then immediately underwhelming when you actually need someone. I mean really, it's a crap shoot. You practically have to roll a D20 and hope for some positive karma in order to get a clean bathroom at this mall, so if you can hold it, I would. Overall, the best thing about this place is the Starbucks and that's always packed too, so if you think that's a good enough quality, then you can find some enjoyable time at this mall. read more

The monster of the retail industry Amazon quietly but surely is consuming these agIng beast, their mammoth over-head is slowing choking the life from these concrete structures with their store front glass displays and tile floors. As most of the retail stores that favor the indoor malls struggle to get close to the break even point and their stocks tumble it's almost painful to watch them fail as their aging board of directors start deploying their golden parachutes siphoning off what left of the profits from the very souls that provided them a livelihood for much of their careers. I have always enjoyed visiting dinosaur exhibits and Summit Mall is yet another example that validates the direction these aging, outdated shopping structures of the 1970's are headed. Looking around its obvious that extinction is inevitable, the customers started the process of abandonment some time ago and it continues today, but it's a slow death and somewhat painful for the aging merchants who also are showing signs the end is near. The retailers who once dominated the industry are getting tired and have failed to recognize the changing demographics, the impact of social media or the importances of the Internet as the customer base of the future for long term sustainability. The guilty are easily recognizable it's the same ones that are hanging on to the tired retail spaces at Summit Mall; Macy's - Dillard's, to name a few. I can't say for certain when the decline started but it continues with no viable solutions being offered by developers who are looking for something new and shiny, the marketing agencies who long ago exhausted their ability to creatively paint a positive illusion that would keep the traffic flowing through the multi-doored entrances that were once required to manage the masses or any other entity including city leaders who have blindly siphoned tax dollars with abandonment until the revenue dried up and the bankers swarmed in confiscating the asset so they can recycle the process to justify their millions in compensation bonuses, it's almost like the buzzards are circling and as scared as the investors and stockholders are they won't give in for some reason, hopefully it's not nostalgia or sentimental value because this black hole doesn't differentiate between space and time and it's no noble feat to go down with a sinking ship. Filling these boring empty spaces is becoming more and more difficult as the open air shopping venues continue to offer a better experience for the consumer who demands more than a Orange Julius, a slice of pizza double baked under a heat lamp, cottage cheese and carrot slaw from a blue hair cafeteria. I want something healthy, crafted, unique and exotic while sitting in the open air, with wifi, with friends, watching the world before me, you can't get that inside these artificial environments that were dreamt up by irresponsible short-sided, necktie strangled economist who designed for profit and never considered what makes the customer happy. On a positive note these aging giants occupy some prime real estate and even with the cost of knocking down and disposing of these poorly designed inefficient structures that are likely filled with hazardous asbestos laden building materials there's money to be had in the name of economic development but mostly in the name of global environmental responsibility. So when you see the demolition begin rejoice, it could be the beginning of something green, sustainable and beneficial to all of us like a park filled with flowers, clear streams and playgrounds filled with happy children running and laughing in the midst of all the concrete and asphalt wouldn't that be amazing? read more

I'm very indifferent about this mall. I don't love it. I don't hate it. It's just that nothing stands out here for me. I could just as easily go to Belden Village mall and be just as content with my shopping options. The exterior remodel from a few years back is really nice and was a much needed face lift. The stores inside the mall are average. Nothing really stands out as something different from the other malls. Maybe I just don't love malls in general so I'm being too critical? The food court is good. Nice options. And there are plenty of nicer restaurants on the outside of the mall, such as The Rail, PF Changs, and Bravo. Not a horrible mall. Not fantastic. Great location and easy to find. I like the variety of stores although I don't buy much here as many are out of my price range. Great salon at Dino Palmieri (Stephen is so awesome!). Decent food court and attached restaurants with lots of variety. The parking lot is awful if you're looking to park at the Main Entrance by the food court. It's a very cramped parking area. I suggest parking by one of the department stores instead. read more

I like the mall, but hadn't been there in quite awhile. My family is here visiting from out of town, so the grandkids wanted to shop at the mall. I was very annoyed by the "carnival barker" atmosphere due to the various attempts to sell me something, especially from the kiosks. This is one of the few malls that we have left in this area it's really nice and it has a lot of different store options on this day I went to get my eyebrows done and the lady that did them did amazing I got them done with the string she was efficient and quick in the prices were not bad I recommend if you do need your eyebrows done and you can handle having them done with the stream instead of wax that you go to Summit Mall cuz they have a really great person there that does it. read more

Ran into an old college squeeze last week. Sure has been a while since the last time we talked, something like two decades. She's wearing her hair exactly the same way, and to be fair, she's held up pretty well. I think her weight is still about the same, although she's rocking some "body issue camo" gear, perhaps to cover some "changes," and the lines around her eyes are a bit deeper. What in the world does this have to do with Summit Mall, those of you still reading must be wondering? Okay, let's step back to the mid-seventies, the height of mall-building in America. Summit was the first in the West Akron/Fairlawn/Montrose metroplex. In fact, Montrose was nothing. It had three things: a broasted chicken shack, a drive-in movie theater, and a horse-riding stable. That's it. If you told your friends to meet you in Montrose, it was probably to sneak into the drive-in with a case of P.O.C. and four guys hiding in the trunk. Otherwise, they would assume you were luring them to a dark, deserted field for either romance or robbery. Or both. As Montrose rose, yet another five miles of strip-mall blight on the land, so Summit fell. Lost were the anchor stores, forgotten was maintenance, gone were the customers. Then, the facelift began. The subtle cover-up of renovation and luring a few good stores back. The place looks pretty good from the outside, but they've wasted a bunch of parking opportunities on a grand circle driveway that does no one any favors. Inside, it looks less like a shopping mall and more like a third-world trinket market. The kiosks that jam what was once the open concourse are horrid. Just try to walk around without someone jamming a clipboard into your hand: "Have a minute to answer a few questions about anal warts?" The food court is always a filthy mess, although the layout and selection isn't bad, if you don't mind two thousand fat-laden calories per serving. Bon appetite! While improved, it is still pretty horrid. I would have to really, really need something specific to find my way here. Oh, and step lively if one of the mall-walkers comes flying around a corner on lap sixteen! They grant no quarter. read more

I'm not from the area but I stumbled upon the Summit Mall during a business trip. I found it to be a very nice mall. It was open, very clean, and had a wide variety of stores to shop at. I found the layout to be welcoming and plenty of parking available. I'm from the Columbus area and I was very impressed to find a mall like this in Akron. I'll certainly be back. read more

I don't get to this mall very often only about once or twice a year, but I always love shopping here when I go. The restaurants always come and go but it's the high class stores that draw me. I prefer William-Sanoma and The Children's Place. There is a Macy's but don't let the 2 Dilliards throw you. One Dilliards is all the men's things while one is kids and womens. I don't know why they are separate, but they are. Overall, I think this is the best Mall in the Summit/Portage county area. Not huge, but not small and a decently good selection of stores for all! read more

A pretty decent mall! Stopped here after an appointment at Akron Children's and its always not very busy and pretty nice. We went there today and were going to get lunch. We ordered a slice of pizza for our kids and when I went up to order my husband's and my lunch, there were two cockroaches crawling on the counter. When we moved the trays, there were at least 5 more that came out. When I went to Sabarro to return the pizza, she asked why and when I told her she replied with, "oh we have cockroaches all over". Nice mall. It's what feels like about an hour and a half trip from the NE side of Akron, where we are, so we rarely get out to that side of town. But at least you don't need an automatic weapon or a platoon of bodyguards to walk the place after 3 pm on a Saturday. And you can't argue they're not miles ahead of Chapel Hill these days. Stores in the mall are great - no complaints. The restaurants outside like PF Chang's etc are great to! However the restrooms in the mall are really dirty and not maintained. One of the restaurants Greek Salad is unhygienic - hair on food, rice was stale. I didn't complain to him because I am not sure if that would be helpful. read more
