I really enjoyed visiting this location in Oro Valley. Selections are a bit pricey but they carry brands you won't find in other shops. This store carries lots of local goods and books and maps on the Tucson area for hiking ,etc. What I love is the salespeople are friendly and patient as well as knowledgeable. My guy was drawn to the backpacks and even relived a few of the journeys he's taken while backpacking this country The displays showcase many of the items for sale and I loved them. Heck, I wanted to take one of everything home tonight I'm still on the lookout for a book or map on cycling trails in Tucson but I did find quite alot of useful items. read more

Summit Hut is the best! Hands down! This location is really large and they have tons of variety of items. You can find everything you need here for your outdoor needs. Clothing, accessories, equipment, etc. We come here especially for hiking boots, socks, and proper UV protectant hats. And for all other hiking and offroading essentials to make sure we're safe when we venture out into the wilderness. They have everything needed to make a proper emergency kit and then some. Their prices are better than other sporting good stores around, especially the "big box" stores. The staff is helpful and friendly. The store is huge and clean, and well organized. Even when I'm not looking for something specific to buy, I enjoy just walking around and checking out their inventory. Summit Hut is awesome. read more

I went to their 20%-off-everything sale and bought a headband. I was interested in their Tilley hats, but couldn't find one in the 8+ size. In general, Summit Hut is a great store for outdoor equipment, but it's hard to compete with the product range available online these days. read more

Go to the Sale rack otherwise you will pay retail expensive prices. Knowledgeable friendly staff to figure out what you need to order on Amazon and Backcountry online if you're smart. REI outlet online good too, cheaper and same exact stuff. read more

Went hiking with my 10+ year old hiking boots, after emerging the canyon I decided it was time to invest in a new pair of boots. After our hike, my husband suggested we try the big sporting goods store at the Tucson Mall. After explaining my needs the sales person suggested a couple shoes that really were not options due to cost. She never offered to size me or to pull out a pair of shoes to try on. I just didn't want to spend more than $200 on hiking boots. We ended up leaving this location and heading over to Summit Hut. We raced up to Oro Vally location and entered the store at 16:50 (this store closes at 17:00 on Sundays). Tiffany asked if we needed help. I explained to her that we were out hiking, I have many blisters on my feet from the trek, and that I would like to find a new pair of boots. She then measured my feet and asked what was important. Tiffany explained that I have very narrow feet (especially considering how narrow they were after a 9 mile hike) and that my feet are two different sizes. She offered two great pairs of shoes and had me try them on with SuperFeet (which I used in my old hikers). Tiffany was fantastic. She wanted me to be nothing but thrilled with my new shoes and offered advice on how to avoid blisters and pain. The best part, I bought a new pair of hikers and a new pair of SuperFeet insoles for far less than what I had expected to pay. In the end, Summit Hut earned my business. I am so thankful the bigger stores have not run this business out of Tucson. read more

After buying trail running shoes and SuperFeet insoles and using them for a while, I found that I was consistently experiencing foot fatigue and significant pain due to the high arches on the insoles. After explaining the situation to Dylan and that I felt I did not get the right guidance when choosing the shoes and insoles, he asked me to come in to the store with the shoes and insoles. Upon arriving Dylan greeted me and had an experienced sales associate evaluate my feet, arches, and size taking the time to have me look at a variety of other options. They replaced the used insoles and shoes at no cost, exceeding my expectations and giving me confidence again that SH is the best store in town for clothing and technical gear if you want well trained and experienced staff to get you into the right gear, and great customer service. Went to purchase a pair of Ecco sandals for my 93 year old dad; he broke a strap on his old ones. I had the old one in my hand. Not a single salesperson asked if they could help me or asked what I was looking for. Two of them were just standing around. I looked around and ascertained that they had nothing like them on display. I walked out without a single employee speaking to me, sat in my car, and ordered them off the Ecco website. I like supporting local businesses but I should have just done that to begin with! read more

I don't live near this location but I came by for a special promotion day and had a blast. A local brewery was serving up beer in Hydro "mugs" for a donation so I picked one up and drank a couple of cold refreshing beers. While there, I shopped for the 20% off sale going on and found a few knick knacks at good prices. The store is clean, easy to navigate, and stocked with great items and friendly staff. The event they held was well done even with the amount of people, everything flowed smoothly and easily. Lots of fun, good store! read more

Went in to check out hiking boots. As a transplant, REI was all I knew. Though I still enjoy REI, I was impressed with Summit Hut and will transfer much of my business to them (you know, shop local and stuff). Caveat: initial sales contact was slow... 15 minutes of holding a boot for a fitting with few other customers elsewhere.... but, in fairness, it was a Sunday early afternoon. When I was finally approached, Randy was very helpful and demonstrated the chops needed to pick out a pair of Lowas. The boots were more than I thought I would spend on an impulse trip, but a decision I certainly felt secure making. Randy knew what he was talking about, didn't up-sell like a blood-thirsty vampire, and showed me a new way of lacing for improved fit. Time will tell how the boots fit into my renewed hiking hobby, but the experience in purchasing them was certainly pleasant. I look forward to visiting again for more equipment and clothing- this was a pleasant surprise. read more

Bought a pair of Merrell boots. 3-4 months later while vacationing in Boston the stitching ripped. Called summit Hut and they told me to deal directly with Merrell. The guy was very unhelpful. Merrell did take care of the problem in a great way sent me a replacement pair. But they did not fit--now back in Tucson--took them with my receipt to Summitt Hut and explained the situation and they blew me off said go back to Merrell. I am done. 8 pairs from their two locations over the lat 12 years. read more

I love summit hut! Definitely my choice for my equipment and clothing. The staff is super on top of it with service and they really know their stuff. The prices are lower than other places but they hold the same equipment. They definitely go out of the way to help you out and answer your questions. Great customer service for purchase of hiking boots and socks. Had inserts recommended to me that made the shoe fit my flat feet perfectly. Inserts were already fit to the size 9 boot, but they would have done the trimming for me if needed. Full service shoe shopping that actually beat online retailer pricing. read more

I'm just getting into hiking and needed hiking supplies. I did a search or a supply outlet in northwest Tucson area. Summit Hut on N. Oracle was one of several places that came up. I read the Yelp reviews and decided to give them a shot. We went today and had a very pleasant experience. The staff was supper helpful and everyone was a hiker with relevant experience. They guided us through the many products, and not the expensive ones, but items that would meet the needs for the level of hiking we want to do. They even guided my wife to a pair of athletic shoes that fit. She has wide feet and has trouble finding wide athletic shoes in other stores. This was our first encounter with Summit Hut but it clearly will not be our last. Great, knowledgeable, friendly staff that you did not have to track down, great products at all levels. Great choice for us. We'll be back! read more
