What an appropriate name! I thought I'd covered every bar on North Oak long ago! Every time I saw…read morethe name "Lost Bar" come up in my research I assumed it had to be a new name for a bar I'd already been too. Ironically, my BARDAR has gone off numerous times while driving past the very strip mall in which this bar is located. It's a strip mall that screams that it has a bar in it, yet there isn't one to be found... ...unless you look in the back. But why would you? From Oak it looks like a standard one-story strip mall with nothing behind it. But it turns out there's a sharp drop in the hill and there is indeed a lower level around back. Lost Bar is a small, dark, smokey dive -- exactly what you'd expect such a well-hidden place to be. There's pool tables, games, and a small stage. There seems to be a well-knit group of regulars. Our bartender was very friendly and pleasant. Beer was poured cold and at just the right price: cheap! I really enjoyed my visit here and will be back.

I sat at the bar and Emily immediately greeted me and asked for my order. I also requested to get the USC game on one of the TV's which she immediately made happen. The juke box was off line but the bar had a great "dive bar" feel. Clayton, a patron sitting next to me at the bar, immediately introduced himself to me and we started some small talk. It was hard to hear Clayton as the table behind us had a group on women who were clearly having a good time, but one that was so loud and obnoxious it spoiled the good time for the other patrons at the bar. I watched three different couples ask to close out due to the noise. Fortunately, Emily managed the situation and they left. Suddenly the jukebox was back on line and me and the other patrons that survived the old lady outburst were happy to enjoy this wonderful bar. I will definitely be back and I appreciate a place that looks out for all customers, not necessarily the ones buying the most drinks.

The line dances at G&C are also very fast-faced so if you are new to line dancing, definitely go on a teaching day. Thirsty Bull is on the opposite side of the spectrum. It is a smaller space with a much older crowd, TVs wrap around the place so it's a great place to catch a game, there's pool tables and other games I didn't check out myself and a mechanical bull for $5 a ride. The instructor at Thirsty Bull was awesome and all-around sweet dude. Unless they change the hours, line dancing lessons start Saturdays at 6:30pm. I couldn't care less for the drinks because I was there to dance. If you're visiting from out of town, Thirsty Bull is a MUST!
