RIDICULOUS! I've been a patient at Lakewood for about 2 or 3…read moreyears now. I've only gotten cleanings and x-rays here, and mind you, I've loved tooth cleanings since I was a kid -- these people stab your gums more than is necessary and practically drown you with the water before suctioning. I'm pretty sure they train dental students here, so I can forgive that for the most part. I scheduled a wisdom tooth extraction procedure more than 3 weeks ago, and their oral surgeon is only in the office 2 days of the month (every other Wednesday, I believe). I had to change my insurance information, so that was already a bit of a rough endeavor but it got done. It was scheduled for 1:00 pm; they called me three days before my procedure to see if I would be able to come in at 9, 10, or 11 am because they were short-staffed. I ended up rescheduling for 11:00. It was understandable and mostly expected because: While in my time as a patient here, I had only been rescheduled or canceled on once or twice; I made recommendations to people to go there and all three of these people had bad scheduling experiences on separate occasions. One was called about an hour before his appointment to reschedule for a different day! Then, they met my expectations even more by calling 2.5 hours before my appointment to reschedule for noon because they "had a call-off". Call me delusional, but the woman who called seemingly tried to catch me off guard or convince me it was already for then when she started the call -- "I was calling to make sure you're still all set to come in at 12?" "No, they told me 11:00..." "Oh, (pause) I'm so sorry about that. Would you be able to come in at noon instead? We had a call-off." And I asked about earlier times (9, 10)... Nope! Then, a few minutes after the call ended, I got an alert that my appointment time had been changed to noon. (So it never said I was in at noon, huh?) Also, I asked about payment plans or being billed for services because even with insurance, they were estimating $608 to pull all 4 wisdom teeth, and she told me I would have to pay up front!

I'd give zero stars if yelp would let me. Just awful! What could have been done in two visits was…read moredrawn out to seven. When my insurance changed at beginning of the year, they tried to get me to pay out of pocket. I'm sure that they just dragged it out so long so they could milk medicaid for all those extra visits.

So, When I was looking for a Dental Referral Service, I saw in the Phone Book that Afdent was one. So,when I walked in at their old location on Parnell, I asked if they could give me referrals for Dentists. To my surprise and delight...I was told that "They" were a Dental Office. So,I set up my 1st appointment in 1995 and have been there ever since. The reason I have stayed with Afdent and not cared to look for a different one,was that they always got me in quickly. They were always Professional. They Accepted my Changing Health Insurance thru all these years. They had "Laughing Gas" ...(Don't know the medical word). And they were receptive and considerate on using my nickname in correspondence and in Greeting me,Personally. I was told I needed a crown end of 2025, even tho we have really great dental insurance we were told we had to come up with $800 down, so we did,(that was in Jan. 2026). I ended up having problems with the crown which I told them I didnt think was quite right, but was told I needed to get use to it. Ok. Went back in June 2026, was told I now needed root canal for same tooth, I opted to just have them pull it. Especially after finding out they were holding a $600 credit on my account, since insurance came thru and paid on my crown originally. Not happy that they held on to a large credit, especially when we withdrew that from our HSA plan and could have been paying other medical bills with it. We are now one day away from July 2026 and still haven't received our credit. I called today, spoke with billing, was told that they couldn't send me my credit until insurance pays for last visit,(June) I don't think so Sir, that credit was from January 2026. They then said they would send a email to the appropriate person to get our refund in the mail but it probably wouldn't happen this week. Good grief! I used to work in medical billing and there's no excuse for this. Be better Afdent billing!

Narrated everything they were doing as they did it. The quality of care was exceptional. When it came time for Dr Meyer to give me the IV sedation, I felt ready and comforted. Single-handedly the best dental experience I've ever had. Recovery has been going really well, too. I was told what to expect and when. I called with an anxiety induced concern and they were able to bring me in within minutes to check the extraction site(s). Everything was fine but they never made me feel bad for calling. I feel important, cared about and valued there. I will recommend Dr Meyer and her team, the whole Ruckman office really, to anyone needing an oral surgeon. Don't even bother going anywhere else!

I got the appointment quickly. I thought it would be a long way out. I checked in with the friendly staff. I was taken back to the room where the dental assistant explained the procedure in detail to me. Asked a few questions about my health history that hadn't been on the questionnaire I had filled out online, took my blood pressure and told me the doctor would be in shortly. When Dr. Myer came in she introduced herself, was quite friendly and we joked about a few things, She explained a few more things. Then we got busy. Shots were in, a little waiting for the numbness and she and the assistants came in and within 15 minutes the teeth were out. It was amazing! I didn't feel anything, not pinching, not pressure, nothing. She is very skillful and very patient oriented. She talks to throughout letting you know what she is doing. I couldn't have asked for a better dentist or staff! The one thing that did surprise me was that even though I have excellent insurance that would pay for the entire procedure, I was asked to pay for half up front. It will take 2-3 weeks for them to reimburse me. Living on SS that is a hard pill to swallow especially since it came as a surprise as I was checking out.
