I checked out the website and the price was more than double with additional fees from the mountaintop condos website. I pointed that out, said I would be using the deal I got and asked my questions again. Again, my questions were ignored and the person told me those fees are normal and again, not to use the deal I got. I asked again, pointed out it was the third time I'd asked and asked them not to lie to me just to make a sale. The responder told me they don't need the sale. That was the last I heard from them.

And a lodge that looks like a small motel. We come on Memorial Day weekend. The place always seems full. There were fireworks on Saturday night that were cool. Also music was playing under the pavilion. Everyone is super friendly. There is a nice sized lake surrounded by a beach. They have 2 socks to jump off in the middle. The store has some merchandise and a snack bar. Also there is a game room with some video games and 2 pool tables. Outside the store is mini golf. They recently built a pool which is real nice. Not sure if it is heated but it was warmer than the lake. Next to the pool is a playground.

There were cobwebs everywhere, mold on one of the bathroom walls, a bathroom that was leaking, dead bugs on multiple counters, and a bunk bed that only had a box spring, no mattress. Also, the floors were so nasty that if you walked around barefoot, within 5 minutes you're feet would be black on the bottom. We had to scrub bathrooms before even using them because there was old soap scum, old hair, and cob webs in them. When we called management to tell them this they acted like it was acceptable. Our one bathtub wouldn't drain either. When calling the management company, we were greeted with complete rudeness, we were talked down to, and they would say they are coming to fix something however, they never show. I would never recommend anyone renting through them, they do not respect their customers one bit.

But they all do require an additional payment, some of which definitely gets a bit pricey. But it is a stunningly beautiful area with lots do to. The tennis court, lazy river and pool was free with our visit so that was nice to try and explore. There are limited food options that are inexpensive without driving a bit (driving anywhere is a bit hard as the valet can sometimes take up to an hour to bring out the car for some reason at times and you are not allowed to park yourself). Overall, great stay, but do prepare that your wallet may be a bit damaged.

Valet parking, daily resort fees, charge for hiking (guide required) and adult pool (but family pool free) * small bathroom, with only a shower. * limited accommodation for late checkout. Luckily, our select guest status allowed our request to be accommodated, but before I mentioned that, the request was denied with such quickness that it seemed routine to do so. If you are looking for a luxury family resort vacation is southwestern Virginia, or love historic properties, you'll likely love the Homestead. If you prefer a more modern experience without add on expenses, it may not be right.
