This company began to contact me in November/December 2023 about a bill from a medical office(I will not name them as they did use this company, but they are just trying to get their money for services rendered). I told Debbie Green from the beginning that I did not owe what they were saying that I owed, that I had made payments on the bill that I had not received credit for. She wanted to yell at me and tell me that I had to take it up with the Medical Facility, well I knew they wouldn't talk to me since the bill had went to collections, so I couldn't do that.
In the beginning of February 2023, I emailed this Summit Collection Services with documentation supporting my claim and never heard back from them. Come to find out, 4-5 days after my email, they filed court paperwork on me.
I get an email from them about a week and a half to two weeks before court and it says if I have any questions to contact them. Since my last phone call at the end of December went sideways quickly with Debbie yelling at me, I decided to email them. I told them, I understand I owe money, but it's not the amount you guys are stating, if you'll answer these questions maybe we can work something out and I'll pay it. I never heard back from them.
We go to court, we had all our bank statements showing where we had made payments and so forth. I don't remember the gentleman's name that represented them in court, but he was not prepared. He made a statement that if they had known about this ahead of time(the paperwork we had showing payments and such, we could have worked something out with the defendant), and he even stated, that once the bill came to them from the Medical Office, the Medical Office wouldn't talk to me any more, which I had already told the judge. Mind you, I tried to contact them and explain to them, even on the call with Debbie at the end of December, and I was just yelled at and not responded to.
The judge took our paperwork, looked it over, along with the gentleman from Summit Collection Services(as we had copies for everyone) and the judge lowered the amount to what we said it should be. Mind you, I still had to pay the court filing fees and the $125 for the Sheriff's office to serve me. I did ask the judge that since I had proven I attempted to work with them on different occasions and they wouldn't work with me or respond if he could cut in half or not require me to pay the court & service fees and he said he could not do that by law. No problem, I didn't argue that fact, I didn't expect him to do that, but since the gentleman from summit made the statement that proved my case, I figured I would try.
So, as we were leaving the court room, the gentleman said we would get something in the mail in about 30 days to pay the bill. I got an email that day from them(court was on a Wednesday) telling me I had 5 days to pay the bill or they would go after my assets. The following Monday I called their office to pay the bill, come to find out they don't take cards over the phone. I have to go get cash and go deposit it into their account at Wells Fargo.
Here's the kicker, Debbie Green who I was transferred too on Monday when I called to pay the bill, didn't even know that we had a court settlement and what the new amount was, she wanted to try and argue with me telling me I had to pay the full amount, and supposedly she couldn't ask her boss about it, cause he was in court.
I never said I didn't owe money on this bill, but this company is very unprofessional, and yes, I understand they are a debt collection company, which probably means they get yelled at all the time and have some conversations that are ugly. That doesn't mean they have to treat every customer like that. Not only that, they don't even communicate with one another or have any idea what is going on at all.
This whole thing could have stayed out of court but I'm not sure they wanted it too, and I don't understand why? read more
