Summerwinds is the absolute best place to buy a Christmas tree. They have beautiful Noble firs, Fraser firs and Douglas firs at amazing prices. All the trees are kept in water so they stay fresh, and the staff will make a fresh cut, trim the lower branches, net the tree and tie it to your car. Much cheaper than a tree lot, and the place is decorated so it's still festive. We get our tree here every year, and before that at the Summerwinds in Campbell. I like to put my tree up Thanksgiving weekend and keep it up until after New Year's and our trees from here always last and last. This year we got a handsome 7-foot Douglas fir for $29.99. Christmas is in the air! I also come here for gardening supplies in the spring. Terrific service, friendly staff and good prices. Not quite as cheap as a garden center at a hardware store, but still very reasonable. The quality of the plants and the service is worth it. read more

The only negative thing I have to say about this place is that the service sucks when trying to use any technology device. Other than that minute downside this nursery is awesome! I was looking for an indoor cute medium size plant that doesn't need much water but will still live. I know I know, I'm lazy but I want a plant to add life to my room. There is a whole section dedicated to indoor plants & flowers of all shapes, colors, & sizes. I had no idea what to get so I asked & 2 very nice ladies were able to help me out. It was advised that my cat have a plant to keep her entertained while I'm at work all day... Makes sense, since she thinks she's a jungle cat. Little does she know that a) she's got no front claws and b) she couldn't hurt a fly. But a house plant isn't a huge inconvenience, so off I went for a perfect plant for my little black and white kitty. SummerWinds came highly recommended on Yelp and it was right on the way to a morning meeting. It's really easy to find, with a bright yellow awning and plants everywhere for you to see. The nursery was empty besides the employees and they greeted me right away. Not sure if non-animal loving people know this, but there's a long list of plants that are toxic to dogs and cats. I assume that most people don't know that, but people who work in a plant store should know, right? Wrong. The lady who initially offered to help seemed more concerned with finding me a plant that matched the amount of sunlight in my apartment than whether or not the plant would kill my cat. Every single plan that she pointed out and said, "I don't think this is toxic" was definitely on the ASPCA's "Toxic for Cats" list. She was pretty useless. However, a young guy who also worked here overheard our conversation and pulled out a binder that contained a list of toxic and non-toxic plants. I ended up getting a catnip bush 'cause I know that's a safe one. AND for a small fee they potted the plant for me while I went to my meeting. Came back about 30 minutes later and it was good to go. My cat LOVES her little catnip plant. Seriously, she buries her head in there and goes crazy on it. Thanks, SummerWinds for your help. This is the second nursery I've have been to. Ok, Yamagami is larger. Summerwinds also has a variety of plants and trees too. I felt this nursery had more decorative pieces for your outdoor yard and garden. It definitely had more pots to choose from. Purchased some pots for the plants that I got. If the pots are too heavy, ask someone to get it for you. That's what I did. One of the staff members helped carry it to the cashier. Another place that I will be back! read more

"We need a Christmas tree!! I can't wait any longer!!" I whined (a little) to my fiance. Every year I become so excited with the thought of Christmas and after waiting (so the tree won't start to dry out too soon) until the second week - it was TIME!! We found a local-ish place through the reviews and here did not disappoint. The lot of filled with tons of trees in a huge variety. There were so many heights type, a first I didn't know what to get since my family back home has had a fake one for years now. We did finally settle on the best tree though, but we just couldn't find the tag. After a little searching and some help, a guy cut off a few inches to help the water soak (be sure to do this!!) and we paid at the cashier's office. She was friendly, a little too talkative, but I'm sure I can be the same way some times. She was very helpful though, she showed me all these fairy garden things which my mom loves; it's like an adult doll house - cute!!: -gourd -lamp post -zombie hand The few things that keep it for a 5 star are slight, so I'd happily come again and I hope to next year!! read more

I've always had a soft spot for gardening and many don't know that I actually enjoy doing it. Me, my brother and my dad decided that we need to get some plants to brighten our home. We came here with a mission in mind, acquire some Blueberry plants at least 2, and scout out for some Golden Bougainvillea vines. The place was very clean and tidy, you'd think being at a Nursery it would be kinda messy looking but this place was fairly clean. We were able to find some blueberry plants but most of them were already fairly big and we wanted some smaller ones. Almost on queue a young fella walked on by and asked if we had any questions (he must've had mind reading powers) So we asked if they had any younger blueberry plants. Like a dreidel, he did a 180, spun around and led us to a cart full of young blueberry plants and also pointed out some Pink Lemonade Blueberry plants. I've never seen a Pink Lemonade Blueberry plant and thought it was fairly neat. So we thanked him and he carried on his way. Mission accomplished. Time to scout out the Golden Bougainvillea, they weren't too hard to find however we were met with a roadblock as all the golden ones must've been taken hostage, as there were only Purple Bougainvillea's and no Golden ones. Bummer. We scouted out a fella who we asked were they kept the Golden ones held and he said they were all out at the moment but should have more coming in soon. So we headed home with our Blueberry plants, no Bougainvillea's but we are planning to come back and get some. Overall fun place, tidy, helpful people, wouldn't mind coming back. read more

They have a great price for berry bushes right now! We came in over the weekend to shop for a blackberry bush, and this SummerWinds had the most mature ones we could find and for the best prices (also looked at OSH and Lowe's). The blackberries were only $6.99 each, and I can't wait until I can harvest my first crop. They also had a good looking selection of mini blueberry bushes that were blossoming already, and they were Buy 1 Get 1 Free, and all berries are 30% off. The staff here is really friendly, but some are more knowledgeable than others, so make sure you ask around if you have a question about your garden. Parking in a cinch, and it's easy to get in and out. read more

It's a gorgeous plant though ;) ----------------------------- My fiance and I came in here for an affordable indoor plant in the $30 range and couldn't find anything. The vast majority of their plants are outdoor only and their nice indoor plants are in the $60 range. We ended up buying an outdoor plant for $35 and along with the planter we spent over $100 for 1 plant! Now mind you, the planter and the outdoor plant are beautiful, however we didn't get what we came in here for and went way over budget. read more

I used to frequent this nursery, or I should say my dog and I used to frequent this place. It is clean, organized and dog friendly. The staff have always been very helpful and the plants that I have purchased always thrived. I've only shopped at SummerWinds during the spring and summer for flowers and tomato plants. I adore this place. I've been to other nurseries, but I felt that the lady who was helping me and the whole atmosphere was very welcoming. I don't have much of a green thumb yet, but I always felt like a nursery is very much like a plant hospital. I came here with questions, and I was honestly expecting some shot-down answer or somewhere along the lines to make me feel even more stupid. That wasn't the case though. The lady stood there and listened to everything I have to say. She encouraged me to keep it up. She offered tips and even took the time to show me other options and even talked about different strawberries! (the other nursery made me feel so dumb when I thought strawberries grew from seeds...) They don't have a huge selection of plants, but they have amazing plants. The area is clean, and they have nice carts that were easy accessible and to find! Which is what I like. The store is pretty organized which I love too. I'm only comparing this nursery to other ones I've been to, and I do say that this must be my favorite one so far! sign up for their rewards too! They are very clean and all the plants are easy to locate. I love their location because it is convenient to see from the road and easy to get in and out. They have a great selection of flowers and trees. They have an average supply of pots and planters. I also find they have a small supply of vegetables and fruits. I would like it if they could add more vegetables to their inventory. I used both their potting and planting soil and the plants seem to grow well from it. The place is huge with so many varieties of plants. Much better than the collection at Osh. After strolling around, we bought an ivy house plant and orchids. So beautiful! We came here for a citrus tree after finding one we liked at a local hardware store (it was plagued with ants, so we came here instead). We figured an actual nursery would have a better selection - they sure did! We were being helped by Richard, who seemed to know everything there is to know about fruit trees, groundcovers, even flowers that hummingbirds like. He explained the maintenance and harvesting of each tree so we knew exactly what we were getting ourselves into. Plus, he also lives locally so knew the weather and soil we were dealing with. We got here thinking all we needed was a tree and a pot. We left with a little extra - knowing how to actually keep our tree and flowers alive! I would definitely recommend coming here, even if you're just looking for one little plant. This is the first time I have been there and we were specifically looking for lilac bushes. Definitely a store that has more than you could want with fresh plants and flowers everywhere. The staff was helpful in finding what we were looking for and even got an extra 10% off on one of our items because they had quite a bit of stock left and blooming season was over already. Prices are kind of high, $45 each for the lilac bushes, but I hadn't really shopped around in that area much for that item. read more

Very nice place and very pleasant cashier! I came here in search of chia seeds for a naked chia pet (it's not mine, it's a friend's, I swear!) but they didn't have any-- however, they did have plenty of other seeds to choose from (I'd estimate about 100 or so varieties). I ended up buying a packet of wheatgrass seeds for $1.69. Of the packets of seeds I scanned, many of them were properly marked for germination by the end of this year (no stale seedlings here!). The outdoor part of the nursery could double nicely as a pseudo, miniature botanical garden. It's very soothing to walk through and nice-- lots of green plants orderly arranged in rows. Several water fountains and lawn ornaments as well, all of which are available for purchase. In addition to seeds, small potted plants, large potted plants, lawn ornaments (I don't mean dwarves or flamingos, more like those mirrored garden balls), and water fountains, you could also buy supplies to deal with snails and other garden pests. read more

The people here are quite friendly and helpful and have a more acute expertise about gardening than, let's say, your average dude at Home Depot or Lowe's. This summer I decided I wanted to start growing my own herbs. I looked on Yelp and found this nursery close to my home. I went with a friend of mine who is an experienced gardener. When she couldn't answer my questions, there were plenty of knowledgeable staff to help out. Not only did I walk away with exactly what I came for, but I had already planned in my mind how I was going to expand my garden in the future! Their selection is fantastic, this is a much better place to buy flowers, fruit trees and herbs than many other large home improvement stores. read more

When it comes to plants and gardening, this is where the wind blows me... OKkkkk.... SummerWinds Nursery has the most Fucshias in Sunnyvale, and I love them for that. The nursery is clean and they have a lot of plants (I wonder why). Best of all, the store is right by El Camino Real, very accesible and parking is not ever a problem. I bought my Japanese maple plant here and they have different varieties too. If they had plumerias, then I'd give them another star. Staff is friendly and helpful. There's a caucasian dude who knows much about every single plant that they have there. Pretty helpful when you just have no idea what to put in your balcony or what plant to get that doesn't require so much water. They have indoor plants and pottery. They also have some bonsai starters! A total plus. This store doesn't have as much soil as Home Depot, but I don't need that much soil anyway, so this store works for me. Whenever I drop by this store, I stay here for at least 30 minutes. I like looking around and learning about their different plants. Never a boring visit. read more

We needed some rose trees and first we went to Lowe's, but they had a very limited selection and they were all pretty sad looking, so we decided to go to an actual nursery. Since Summerwinds was close by, that's where we ended up. Turned out to be a great place to go! Richard was very helpful and gave us some tips on how to plant the rose trees and also how to maintaining them. I also bought some other small roses for between the trees. I also was looking for a fruit tree that could be planted in a extra large pot that I had. We ended up with a fruit tree that has three different kinds of fruit, how could we go wrong with that! Their prices are a bit high, but I feel definitely worth it! I'm sure we will be back again! read more

I'm all about fresh herbs and a beautiful garden, but, here's the thing: I'm American (happy fourth) and lazy. Enter SummerWinds. In my quest to find a nursery nearby (back when I actually thought I would put in the work) I stumbled across this place with positive reviews. A few clicks through their website revealed that they were the valet of nurseries; for an extra fee, they'd pot your plants for you. When I found that out, I was done searching for a nursery. Off I went to pick out some plants and fantasize about a boutique rose garden (perfect for the 2 hours of light my shady patio gets) whilst putting in next to zero work. This location had a rather large selection of herbs and peppers. The employees here seem ill-equipped to deal with the volume as almost every interaction I had with one was delayed by another task. That being said, I found out they don't normally pot plants on the weekends but a lovely obliging fellow named Richard potted them for me anyway. If you get the chance to interact with Richard, I highly recommend that you do. He is knowledgable, yes, but more importantly he is one of those people that leaves you amused. And he will let you watch him pot the plants if he senses you're a newb (guess I don't look outdoorsy - maybe the Tiffany sunglasses gave me away?) For $60, I walked out with basil, thai red peppers, and spearmint already potted and ready to go. Not bad in my opinion, considering the pots themselves were about 10 bucks a piece. Now if only I could get them to make house visits to care for them too. All the glamour, none of the work = 'Merica. read more

It's near home, so the location is great! It's right off of El Camino, so it's easy to spot. They have a variety of not only landscaping plants, but they've got a great selection of indoor plants as well. During the right time of the year, they've got carts loaded with vegetables to choose from. I swear they have every type of squash or tomato you might be looking for. The people that work there are very knowledgeable about all of the plants that they sell. ...and they are more than willing to help you load your greens into your car for you too! read more

The only downer is they don't have a very wide selection of liquid organic fertilizers and vegetable seeds. However, they do have organic potting soil and some dry fertilizers. I've been going to SummerWinds for years. I recently planted one of their pomegranate trees about six months ago and it is still hanging in their. Sometimes, their lettuce and broccoli can be a little wilted but it really shouldn't be much of an issue. I'm considering planting an avocado tree this summer and I will definitely go to SunnerWinds for this. read more

Really nice people. Last week I was in there with my five year old daughter buying some winter vegie starts. Red kale yum yum. My daughter was playing around with the little hand sized pumpkins. When we were through, the guy asked her to pick one of the pumpkins to take home. His mistake was not defining which pumpkins she could choose so, of course, she chose a huge thirty pounder. I found a lot of help from the staff to select the plants I needed. I wanted some low light indoor plants and they showed me informative charts with photos and names of plants which need low light. The plants are much healthier than the ones I find at Home depot or Lowes and the plants are priced the same. There is a lot of plant varieties and I would definitely visit this place again and would highly recommend it. read more

I live in Mountain View and heard on Yelp Sunnyvale SummerWinds Nursery was a good spot for Christmas Trees so I took the family down there. It was great to see the xmas trees already setup in stands with water to keep them fresh. No waiting to un-mesh bundled trees. The gentleman running the stand around lunch on Monday was a real nice guy and quite helpful. We got a 6-7 foot Douglas Fir for $29.99+tax. So for 2010 we've got a great tree for $30. I like supporting the local businesses and we'll be back next year to buy our tree here. Another bonus, they have a number of trees in the protected area, away from the rain. Also noticed they had a great selection of vegetable garden seeds, we'll be back in spring to get our Zucchini seeds. read more
