I love this place!Howev I do small landscapes and only need a few items bagged for me. The center is bustling with contractors and big trucks. Yet they treat me like I'm their most important client. I go to the office order and within minutes I get help loading my car with soil, rocks etc. Plus their soil is the best! So if you're a home gardener go there instead of home depot as their products are so much better, the prices are reasonable and the service is so great. Plus you're supporting a local business! I LOVE this place! I've made two trips for rocks for my garden project. I my pretty sure (100%positive) they know I'm not a professional landscaper. The biggest clue is loading the rocks in my Mercedes. They are gracious with advice and explanations. Now that I know what to expect, I couldn't be happier and more comfortable. First you pick out the material needed and let them know in the office. Then you get as many tidy bags as needed for the project. You pull your car over to the area of landscaping material and collect what you need. Then pay in the office. That's it. The pricing is very reasonable and everyone extremely nice. My only limitation is how much my car can handle... The rocks look gorgeous!!! Its very fun to find just the right shapes. Highly recommend a visit here!! read more

Before you go there, I have to warn you this place is not for the retail consumers. They can tell who are the family handyman doing a house garden DIY project and they are not their favor customer. They might treat you very rudely and try to get rid of you not to wase their time for the real customers. Don't you wish try to get some tips from them for your project.... Normally you will see the profession landskeepers/gardeners in & out this place. They know exactlly what they need for the project and have their own equipment hauling large amount of material. I have been to Mountain View Garden Center a few years back and would have highly recommended this place back then. This past week, I had requested a friend to purchase some sand and DG from them in 5g buckets that we had. Since they didn't know how much these were supposed to cost, they purchased it. Only afterwards, when I saw the total, I figured that this place basically does daylight robbery now. I checked prices with South Bay materials and the total price for what we got was 30% of what my friend paid at MV Garden Center. When we called back, they did not accept returns either. It is possible their bulk prices are not as ridiculous but I would never go back. I don't normally write reviews but this place doesn't deserve any business. read more

Be very careful in dealing with this place. We rented one of their concrete totes (unfortunately they are the only one in the area). The price should have been $148, but when one of my crew returned the tote, they ended up charging us $534 because we kept the tote over two hours!! When we disputed the overcharge, they pointed to some very small print on their contract. This was not pointed out to us when we picked up the tote. In addition, whoever was at the counter was extremely rude and unhelpful. I just wish I had his name to inform the owners. We will not be back. This company is the worst company I've ever done business with. Everyone from the owner himself to his employees are extremely RUDE! The lady that rung me up tells me I could've saved $30 if I would've asked for a certain amount of concrete. I did 2 loads of 3/4 yards but if I asked for 1.5 yards I could've saved money. How the he'll am I supposed to know that? Why didn't she just give me the discounted price since I still got 1.5 yards? When I asked her that question she walked away and would no longer talk to me. To get the price, you will have to first find a staff, take him and walk few hundred feet with you to the stone location. however, good luck with that. Staff are impossible to find. 2. NO ONE is wearing a mask. The business is "following" its COVID protocol to allow only one/two customers at a time in the payment office (~121 sqft, with a door that must be closed at all time). But cashier clerks (yes, multiple of them) are not wearing masks while servicing their customers. To be fair, one of the clerks was wearing a mask but only to cover his chin and bottom lip of his. I've lived in this area for nearly 15 years yet I didn't hear about this place until recently. Of course, it's not like I find myself wondering every weekend, hey, I wonder where I get some good landscaping stuff? So yeah, I guess it's not too surprising. However, when I sent out a query to a neighborhood group about where I can go to get some materials to cover my yard, which died out in the drought, I received numerous recommendations for this place. And yes, it really offers some excellent stuff at pretty good prices, especially when you compare it to the big box DIY stores like Home Depot and Lowes. They've got a variety of rock of different sizes, plus a handful of different wood chip mulch options. For additional accents, they have some boulders and flagstones as well. They'll load up your truck for you, but if you don't have means of transporting it yourself, they'll deliver for a nominal fee. This is pretty much just a place to get landscaping materials. Don't expect a lot of advice about how to put it together. read more

Delivery was fine as well as the product. But the costs have skyrocketed. They no longer sell sand/gravel by the cubic yard. Instead, they sell by weight, $$$ dollars per ton. Maybe I'm odd but I can visualize 2 cubic yards of gravel. I cannot visualize 1.5 tons of gravel. How much does gravel or sand weigh... wet or dry? It's as if they are trying to hide their huge price increases by changing how they charge, read, confuse the customer to mask cost increases. And delivery... to a home 2 miles away, $80. Double what it used to be. I will not return to this business. They have simply priced themselves out of a customer. Too bad, as it used to be a viable source. I will now look elsewhere, anywhere but here. Beware. As a side note, while paying I was watching the interaction between the guy managing the place and employees (who were trying to help customers). Worst company EVER!!! DO NOT GO THERE!!! The guy who runs this place is a complete a-hole. I wasn't there five minutes before he goes off on a politically charged tirade. Then he starts yelling at his employee (who was quietly ringing up a customer) how he's got the right to free speech and can say anything he wants. After watching him berate his employee for a few minutes I suggested he calm down and just let her do her job. That's when he started yelling at me. When I asked him about the free speech comment he just made and why can't I voice my opinion, he told me, "You better close your mouth right now". Luckily, I'm not a violent person and I walked out instead of.... This man does not deserve even a penny of business from anyone. I needed to buy pavers to replace the concrete on our driveway. I needed a certain square footage, but the salesperson said they only sold the pavers in pallets. My bad for not checking other stores before making the purchase. Turned out Penninsula Building Materials not only sold partial pallets, they charged $1.50 LESS per sq ft for the exact same paver (same company, same product, same color). read more

I love Mt. View Garden Center! They're close by, have a ton of great selections, and the staff are very helpful. My wife and I went to pick out some stones for a patio and, after laboring to load 400 lbs of stone into my car, found out that the stones had been mismarked and were much more expensive than we thought. I was upset and, seeing this, one of the staff went out of his way to make sure that the rest of our supplies were easy to get and made up for the mistake with the stones by allowing us to get as much sand as we needed without regard to weight. I love how easy it is to drive my own car in and drive right up to the loading area for each material. They have all the sacks and shovels you need and, of course, you can have the materials delivered if necessary. Mt. View Garden Center is my new go-to for DIY landscaping materials! read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! I read other reviews and saw the owner was rude, thought how bad could it be? Boy was I wrong... I called before hand to ask about gold fines for my patio. They told me the material was stabilized and would work well. When I showed up to buy it, the guy told me it would only work if I installed base rock below it since their material is NOT actually stabilized like they told me, so I purchased the rock first. Go back to buy the gold fines, and the female owner/manager is EXTREMELY RUDE. Tells me no way the material will work and it is basically sand. I go out to my car to look at my options, and when I come back she rudely asks what's taking me so long. She then tells me I can buy stabilizer myself and add it for cheap, so I buy the gold fines. Get home, realize the stabilizer will cost 3x the actual cost of the gold fines. I call back to return the material (I can buy stabilized material elsewhere for half the price), and the same rude lady aggressively tells me I can't return anything and that I shouldn't have bought the material in the first place, even though I only bought it because she talked me in to it. All in all HORRENDOUS SERVICE, extremely RUDE, NOT helpful. You couldn't pay me enough to go back here again. THERE ARE OTHER GREAT OPTIONS - Lyngso, Ciardellas, South Bay Materials, Peninsula Building Materials, etc. These are all significantly better and the same or better price. They were super helpful. You can get wood chips by the bag, or if it's slow on Sunday, they'll dump it on the ground and you shovel it into your wagon, much cheaper than a bag. Grass delivered to the wrong place and they wouldn't fix the problem. We ordered over $200 worth of grass for our backyard. It was delivered before the 2-hour window we were given and the delivery person left it in the front of our house without knocking on our door or giving us a courtesy call. We let the Mountain View Garden Center know that it was delivered to the wrong place (we wanted it delivered to the back of the house) and they wouldn't move it, telling my husband, "Oh, well, then it'll be a good workout." This place is great, mass quantities of rocks, bark, flagstone, you name it. I have passed this place a hundred times as it is right at the entrance to 237 off of El Camino, it must pre-date many of the surrounding businesses. I came here to load up on sand for my daughter's sandbox, without a pickup it is all self-service here, grab a shovel and 1lb cubic foot bag. The owners are extremely friendly and helped me select the best type of sand (they have four types of sand), large-grain and washed. After loading up on 8 bags of sand we now have our own private Hawaii in our backyard, be sure to measure correctly as I now have 5 extra bags of sand, yes terrible forecaster! I would call this place a rockery or a quarry vs. garden center, picture Costco for large-scale landscaping projects. read more

If you need large quantities of soil, mulch, sand, etc, they are fast, reliable, and relatively cheap. However, I suspect the compost that was delivered was not properly "cooked". The areas that got compost and redwood bark mulch are riddled with oxalis bulbs and I dug up two large chunks of acanthus mollis (an invasive plant that spreads by root fragments) that had sprouted. My new flower beds that are two months old now require daily hand-weeding to keep the oxalis at bay. I live in fear of what will happen once it rains. read more

They have rocks. They have very big rocks and they have very tiny rocks and rocks in between. They have rocks in different colors. You can come with a shovel or borrow theirs and fill up the plastic bags they provide after you have backed your vehicle up to one of the many bins. Or you can drive your truck onto their scale and they will dump in your rocks (sand, bark) and charge you by the pound. One bag of their 3/4" drain rock was $4. Oh, they have rebar and plastic edging and stakes and pavers and bricks and flagstones and landscape fabric and stuff I don't recognize but they will be glad to tell you about it because they really give you no attitude at all if you are a newbie; they just are glad to help. Furthermore, when I was paying, Ihad to enter a room the size of 100sqft, where there were 3 employees and none of them wore mask. Bonfire anyone? If you're set on having a bonfire on the beach this summer, I suggest you come here. the staff are friendly. the wood is very decently priced. You just need "one bundle" it's about 29 dollars + tax, and it'll fill up half of a trunk, enough to have a bonfire to last 5+ hours. They have other sizes of wood that are in the 200+ dollar range. but one "bundle" is more than enough for a big group to enjoy. read more

I have no problems with customer service. They were polite and helpful. However, I am very concerned about the lack of covid distancing and protocols. The employees were not wearing masks in a small , air conditioned space. It was impossible to stay 6 feet apart. The entry way sliding door was heavy to open and close, with no efforts to disinfect common surfaces. I wish the owner would take steps to protect their employees and customers. I needed red pro chips to spread in my yard to lock in moisture and control weeds. You can come with a truck and they will load or you can have material delivered for a $50 fee. This is the best place to get your landscaping needs met. I love the variety of stones, pavers etc. But even more I really like the folks that work here. They are kind, and helpful. I am elderly and decided I needed to make my garden into an English country garden. This took many trips to this great place for a variety of small amount rocks, ground mulch, slabs of stone to make a "crazy" paved path. All buys were confirmed as good choices by them, and they helped me get what I wanted. I've been coming here since I was a kid now I'm in the same business as my dad, a landscaper. We've been buying material here for years before the new owner was there the most polite guy and the staff was very helpful. Now with this new Owner! Total dushbag and let me tell you why, I was buying material like any other day and while I was paying I was having a conversation with one of the employees while paying not after I payed and says get to work to me and his staff member. So I say that's rude of him to say and as I'm walking out he said it again to (get to work) and shuts the door behind me, this is the first time I have ever felt so disrespected in any place.
