I requested that Atlas Roofing submit an estimate for me since the two layers of shingles on my 65…read moreyear old house were leaking and looking a bit long in the tooth. Atlas was highly-rated in Washington Consumers Checkbook, as well as Angie's List, so I invited them to bid. They sent out their repairman, Ben, who was certainly not a salesman but knew his way around a roof. He took down the details of the roof and told me that the owner would then send me an estimate, which he sent via email the next morning. I chose Atlas Roofing to install my new roof because their price was the midpoint of the three estimates I had received and they appeared to be responsible based on online reviews, BBB ratings, etc. Ben also explained that the work is not subcontracted out (i.e., to day laborers) and that the owner, Ed VanderHoeven pays for good health insurance for the workers. That's the kind of small business that makes America great. Atlas's warranty was also the most clear as it expressly stated that the roof would be leak free (at their expense) for 10 years. No haggling over what a "defect in workmanship" meant. After sending the estimate to me, I called Ed with some questions and he proved himself personable and knowledgeable. Based on my work schedule, I wanted the roof done sooner rather than later, and Ed scheduled the re-roofing for the following Monday morning, which worked great! Ed called me the night before to confirm, and the crew arrived at 7:30 on Monday morning and started working around 8. Due to it being the first cold day in a while, Ed scheduled both of his crews to work on my roof, so they completed the job in four hours! There were 9 (I think) people working on my roof at one time. The roof looks great, and the crew did an excellent job of cleaning up my property. Highly recommend them.

Other work included aluminum flashing, watershield membrane, sealant on both sides of chimney to help prevent water between gutter and brick, realignment of a loose gutter to pitch toward the downspouts instead of toward the brick chimney, and replacement of pipe flashings and some plywood and shingles in a few locations where they had lifted. They matched shingles as well as I could have expected. Thelma in the office and Luis A were very professional and provided exemplary customer service, all at a fair price. They also gave me before-and-after photos without my having to ask.

After doing my research, I interviewed several (about 5) licensed roofers. Artin was the ONLY company who knew a metal roof had to be welded, not caulked. Their estimate was mid-range of all the roofers AND they were going to do it right. That was nearly 15 years ago (the roof should last another 40 years or more). They just returned to paint the metal roof again (simple, routine maintenance every 5 years or so). I've been extremely happy with this company whom I have had do several other jobs for me (replacing fascia boards, columns, etc.). Scheduling both estimates and work is easy. Artin takes customer service seriously and is run professionally.

Stanley was so awesome to work with from beginning to end!…read more Some background: I needed my exterior shutters replaced; and I was in a bit of a time crunch thanks to my HOA. I read other reviews and decided to only get quotes from two places: SJ Contractor Services and a national-level 'handy man' service. I am a renter; my landlord does not live in the local area. Why I chose SJ Contractor Services: Stanley made the entire process so easy. I received a quote the same day. He explained to me the entire process, warranty, and broke down the pricing for me. After I received the quote, I still needed to weigh my options. Texting is one of the ways Stanley contacts his clients, which is awesome! Their prices were excellent, and his customer service was outstanding. The process and end product: From the start, Stanley & SJ Contractors were respectful of my home, my time, and my requests. As soon as we decided to do business, I was immediately emailed a quote. Once the quote was signed and accepted, he came out to take measurements and take a look at what needed to be done. As soon as the measurements were taken, he made me aware of the timeline, which was fairly quick. I didn't need to be present for the work. They stand by the products they use and their work they do. I was able to pay online, and was emailed a receipt as well. After the work was done, I even received a thank you note and some chocolate in the mail! TL;DR Stanley is awesome. SJ Contractors is awesome. You can text them. All documents are electronic. Work and customer service is outstanding. They mailed me chocolate to say thanks. Hire them!

I made it very clear that I did not want harsh chemicals used in a way that would damage my house or my plants, and I was assured that everything would be rinsed thoroughly and flowers would be covered. Unfortunately, after the service, my herb garden was ruined, and several flowers on the other side of my home also died. While I appreciate that they provided information about the cleaning solution they use, the outcome speaks for itself. Whether it was the solution itself, the dilution, or insufficient rinsing, my plants were damaged despite my expressing this concern in advance. I'm very disappointed because this was the one issue I specifically asked them to avoid. The house was cleaned, but replacing a herb garden and flowers is both frustrating and expensive. I wish I had gone with a company that had a more established track record of consistently excellent reviews.
