From the moment we opened our order, it was clear that care, quality, and pride go into everything they serve. We ordered the tuna maki rolls, yellowtail scallion maki rolls, a tuna sushi dinner, and gyoza, and every single item exceeded expectations.
The first thing that truly impressed us was the fish-to-rice ratio. This is something many sushi restaurants get wrong, but Pier Sushi and Hibachi absolutely nailed it. The maki rolls were balanced and generous, allowing the quality of the fish to shine rather than being overwhelmed by rice. As seen in the photos, the fish itself was beautiful--glistening, vibrant, and cut into thick, satisfying pieces that instantly signaled freshness.
The nigiri from the tuna sushi dinner was pure perfection. Instead of the oversized, dense balls of rice that are so common elsewhere, the rice here was delicately portioned and lightly packed, letting the fish remain the star. Each piece was topped with a generous slice of tuna, making every bite melt-in-your-mouth delicious and well balanced.
Even the details that are often overlooked were thoughtfully executed. The wasabi was clearly high quality--fresh, flavorful, and the perfect complement to the fish without overpowering it. The gyoza deserves special mention as well. Despite being a pickup order and not eaten immediately, they were still crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and packed with flavor. That alone speaks volumes about the quality of their preparation and ingredients.
Another pleasant surprise was the garden salad included with the meal. The container was packed generously, not skimpy or half-filled, which made it clear that this restaurant prioritizes customer satisfaction over saving a penny or two.
