The parking is not ideal since I didn't see a designated parking space for this restaurant and we ended up parking on the side street (totally fine, I just don't know if we'll get so lucky next time). The food is good, just doesn't taste as good as it looks. The pearl couscous salad was decent but too oily for my liking, we asked for a side of lemon to balance it out. The chicken kebab wrap is definitely delicious with really juicy chicken breast and amazing garlic sauce. The zaatar was good too but not special. We asked for a side of tahini, garlic sauce, and tzaziki which were delicious but we were charged $2 for each and they were all of maybe 2 ounces so that threw me off. Had a craving for some kabobs last Saturday, so I looked around Yelp for a place close to home so I could grab some take out. I went to Sumac for picking up my food and had the most amazing time meeting with Eli & Fida, the business owners. My take out was really good too. The kabobs were good, but the fattoush was absolutely yummy! It totally stole the scene! Haha! It's our second time to visit Sumac. First time we ordered a wrap and salad to go. We didn't expect anything, but the first bite just blown our minds away, it was so flavorful and delicious! So we are back again today and again, we were surprised by how well everything tasted! I started with the house made garlic sauce, OH MY!!! It was crazily delicious! A mouth full of the richness of garlic and I don't know what else but just perfectly tasty. Our only regret was that we should not have ordered the fries. As their rice was so so delicious too, they made everything from scratch and you can taste the freshness and special flavor you cannot taste anywhere else. This place was only a 15 minute walk from where we were and it fit both of our dietary restrictions. I love Mediterranean food and this place had a great menu. Decided to eat here with some coworkers after work. After reading the reviews we decided to try it out. Unfortunately the food did not live up to our expectations. It wasn't good at all! I was starving needless to say but the food was a complete disappointment and I spent $74 dollars with tax & tip. One of my favorite appetizers is Baba ghanoush, this was inedible- I don't know if they made it last minute but it was way too bitter with too much tahini and clumps of big eggplants not well mixed. It was gross. I wonder if the owners ever taste their food they serve to people? Inedible! The lentil soup looks & tastes like baby food, not good, no flavor. The tabbouleh has big chunks of too many tomatoes, it's like someone didn't have enough time to dice the tomatoes properly to make this special salad. The beef shawarma on the fries is dry, chewy and overcooked. Inedible. Rice was gross, dry, lumpy and definitely not Lebanese rice! The only edible food was the fries and the fried kebbeh for that I gave 1 stars. The small garlic sauce worth fifty cents they charge $2.50, a small square of baklava they charge $4.00 not even half of a normal baklava. I know good Lebanese food, this is not it. Reviews must be from friends and family because Lebanese people don't eat this mess! Maybe they had a bad day but the food is inedible. Oh my, the food here is impeccable, I tried out many delicious plates. The kibbeh is juicy and delicious, the lentil soup is warm & comforting, the dolmas was perfectly served, the tabbouli is cut fresh and crisp, fattoush is perfect w/sumac (& was that pomegranate molasses?! So good), the Baba ghanouj is perfect texture & smooth/tart, very classical. The baklava is wonderful, based on the owner's grandmother's recipe (so cute! I love home recipes) & the sfouf I took home and had with my own espresso. I wish I took pictures, but I forgot myself when I started to eat. I am also Lebanese, and so I am very discerning about Arabic food naturally, because growing up with so many good cooks in the house, you just get very specific about freshness, taste & quality of Lebanese food. I have never felt compelled to leave a food review until today, but Sumac's food reminded me so much of my childhood, it was very emotional for me to eat such GOOD Lebanese food, haha. We ordered grape leaves, loaded vegan fries, beef shawarma, the hummus and baba ghanouj appetizer, and a side of tabouleh. All were super delish and we had lots of leftovers. They don't serve alcohol (booo!) so we came prepared. We went on Thursday afternoon around 2pm.
