As my Guitar Center gently weeps, I find myself writing a negative review for this place…read more Located in Rochester, despite the prices and issues, at least this location has never screwed me over to the extremely aggressive and unfriendly degree that the one in Amherst NY did. I'll never forget the way they treated me up there. There are some creepy similarities here, and I worry that if I bought the same volume of equipment I'd end up with the same awful experience. Some of the associates (at most locations) would say anything to sell you this stuff and then once you get it, everything changes. Oh we never said that. Oh you misunderstood. Oh no it's not meant to do that. Oh we're not responsible for that breaking. Some shady and really bad people. On the other hand the people down here are better than the Buffalo staff, not saying much though. My experiences here have been more positive, but I'd still rather go to a local music shop.

Well, stopped into the Rochester store today to get a gig bag for the Ibanez bass I just got from…read moreGuitar Center online. Although the reps were not rude, they certainly were not attentive. I showed them the bass. One guy needed to show it to the mgr. He came back and said they didn't have anything that would fit. Then he thought we could look and I remarked that was a good idea. They only had three and none would fit. I said Ibanez had a part number of one that went with the instrument on their website. We returned to the front counter and I thought he was maybe going to look it up. I also started some research on my phone. Next thing I knew he was checking customers out. I guess I was done. No acknowlegement, no "Sorry, we can't find anything", nothing. So I left. Won't be returning to this location. And they wonder why folks shop Amazon!

Purchased a Shires TBCH in August 2025 through Music & Arts, shipped directly from the Shires…read morefactory. The horn arrived safely, but the slide had a noticeable catch from day one. I played it for several weeks hoping it was just break‑in, but it never improved. After consulting several colleagues, I contacted Shires and drove the instrument to their Massachusetts factory. Shires told me they would have a replacement slide waiting "in perfect condition" in case the original couldn't be fixed. When I arrived, the replacement slide was actually in worse condition than the one I brought--something their own repair tech acknowledged. They worked on my original slide for a couple of hours, and while it felt slightly better, the issue returned within days. Music & Arts then offered to send the trombone back to Shires for me. Unfortunately, they didn't ship it for two weeks until I called to follow up. After that, another four weeks passed with no instrument returned and no resolution. The one positive: Music & Arts ultimately offered me a full refund on a Custom Series instrument even though I was past the return window. I appreciate that gesture. Overall, this was a disappointing experience with both Shires' quality control and the repair process, compounded by delays in the return handling. I expected far better from a premium‑priced instrument and a major retailer.

My friend--who's on a tight budget--gave me a gift card for 4 lessons. The music instructor is…read morevery, very good, but the store policy is unnecessarily harsh: I asked to re-schedule due to flu symptoms but the store manager held to strict policy of one-day's notice; he said I could meet at a later time only on the same day, otherwise the lesson would be marked as "taught," i.e., lost. That means, as I told him, he would rather put his instructor face-to-face in a tiny room with my coughing and sneezing instead of re-scheduling on a different day, all to conform to store policy. Apparently, this national corporation denies their local managers the ability to apply independent judgement and human decency. So, they won this case by the rules, but by that process, they lose business and community respect. I urge us all to stick with local independent folks.
