Long review but in a nutshell, nicest Suki's I've been to and I've been to every location. The ONLY time I've called a Suki's location and not had a bitchy/monotoned/disinterested front desk answer the phone. Highly recommend Mai for a haircut and I'll most likely recommend Angie after I actually get my hair dyed by her next week.
I used to go to the Suki's in Downtown because my hairdresser moved there from Toni and Guy. I moved out to Surrey and put off cutting my hair for almost 3 years because I didn't want to drive all the way out to Downtown. I found out there was a Suki's in Surrey and dug through the profiles of everyone on the website and decided to go with Angie and Mai. Was incredibly hesitant at first as I have trust issues with hair salons and have had so many bad experiences but super happy about my choices!
Angie was just a consult (my appointment is booked for next week) but she proved to know her stuff. I went in and showed her a picture of lavender colored hair. I was totally waiting for her to be annoyed like most people are because they think customers don't understand how much work it takes for dark, asian hair to go from black to any pastel color like the pretty ones you see plastered all over Instagram. I understand. I've had it done before back in L.A. but not anywhere in Vancouver. I went on a search for a bunch of people with good reviews and saw them for consults. Most seemed to be optimistic but very few mentioned the obvious damage it would do to my hair. Maybe they thought it was common sense but I feel like it's still important to mention that to the client. Angie didn't promise me that my hair would look like what it does in the photo and asked a colleague for advice. I'm really glad she did both those things. Instead, she pulled up Pinterest and showed me some more attainable options that were easier to achieve. Very excited to see how it turns out!
Mai was an actual appointment. She asked what I wanted, I showed her a picture and she delivered 100%. She gave me the haircut I always wanted but was always too scared to ask for because I know how badly it can be messed up. For some reason she gave me the sense that she knew what she was doing and was actually listening to what I wanted to I trusted her and I'm so glad I did. She gave me beautiful long layers and the little strands of hair that fall when you put your hair up in a ponytail. Sounds easy but trust me, so many people have messed it up. Also, I was her last appointment of the day so she took the extra time (probably about half an hour) to show me how to better care for my hair and also how to style it at home. She's so silly. She apologized for the long appointment but I totally appreciated it.
Long review but TL;DR, best Suki's ever. Definitely becoming a regular here! Thank you front desk for making my experience at the Morgan Crossing Suki's a good one all the way from my first phone call to my 20% off first appointment and hair products! You guys are the best. read more
