They were available for a same-day appointment, reserved only a few hours in advance. The only detractor of the location are the parking costs of being in "Downtown" New Westminster on a Sunday. From the moment coming in to the salon I was joyfully greeted by Trish , who was happy to accommodate my request for a little distance from other unmasked customers, even though it meant starting up a new pedicure chair. As an immuno compromised person, I still take care in enclosed spaces. I can sometimes be made to feel a burden by such requests even with available space. There was a substantial amount of nail polish colours to choose from and no extra charge if you selected something sparkly. My nail technician, Amy, was friendly and professional over the rough state of my feet. When you have a busy schedule and pedicures aren't possible, some places put a lot of effort into trying to make you feel bad about your feet being rough. I was very glad that this place wasn't like that because it definitely changes the enjoyment level of something that is meant to be a relaxing bit of self-care. Trish noticed my broken fingernail and suggested fixing it. she said the price for, a polish change versus full mani was only five dollars so I went ahead with the full Mani Pedi. There was a bit of a hiccup with both my color choices not coming out the way they seemed on the examples but both Trish and Amy were helpful in sorting it out to my satisfaction. Amy thoughtfully touched base with me throughout the Mani Pedi to make sure that nothing hurt and I was feeling OK. Lovely service that included hot towels and leg massage. I enjoyed what I can only call the best pedicure I've ever had, and I try to get foot massages/pedicures every chance I get when traveling. This was reasonably priced, came with foot and calf massage after a nice warm soak, exfoliation, toenail cuticle care, buffing, 4 coats, hot towel, bottle of water, all delivered to me in a full on massage recliner. Pure bliss. My daughter was equally pleased with her dip gel manicure and Eyebrow Threading. She found both to be quick, efficient, most reasonably priced, and professionally executed. After Nancy confirmed my appointment she harshly said, "and don't be late otherwise I won't be able to see you until 1:30 ". Her comment stunned me because I had not been late in many months. Over the years I thought Nancy did not like me because no matter how much I said hello, tried to make conversation and gave good tips she was very serious, hardly acknowledged me when I came in she never wished me a nice day or thanked me for a tip. She shows no basic customer service in politeness. I tried to give her the benefit of the doubt because I did like how my nails were done, but yesterday I read through other reviews where others were treated rudely by Nancy. Other customers also said Smile Nail employees would call them if they are even 1 minute late for their appointment threatening to give their appointment away. I had the same experience. Then I would walk in the salon and no one would even be there, they weren't even that busy. Frankly, those phone calls made me feel a bit harassed but I let it slide and tried to remain a loyal customer. Other times if I asked for my mani pedi to be done separate, Nancy would get upset and say, " I'already told you before, you have to request that ahead of time, as if its my fault for not keeping track of all her rules. " It's rude and I don't need to be chastised like a child, especially in front of other customers. I pay too much money and give nice tips to be treated so harshly. They are losing workers and recently I have noticed they only have one other guy still working with them. Lin is friendly and gives good pedicures. She recently complained to me that no one wants to work for them. Perhaps if they created a kinder environment others would want to continue working there. I ended up calling back a couple hours later and just cancelling my appointment. I will no longer be going to Smile Nails or recommending them. I hope they stop and read these comments and work harder on their attitude.
