I was in search of a magician that can transform my sad long hair to happy short hair. As usual, I turned to Yelp for guidance to light my way. Lo and behold, I found East Vanity with my price range and good reviews. I took up my courage and reached out...via email. Emails will let me know if these magicians are good with their scissors, as well as customer service AND savvy-ness in technology. Knock out 3 birds with 1 stone, right? My email was responded within 1 business day and *BAM* my appointment is set with Bailey. I was on time for my appointment and Bailey was there to greet me. I showed her a picture of what I have in mind and Bailey can envision the hairdo on me. She was quite excited to cut my massive thick hair to thin short bob. Prior to cutting my hair, Bailey informed me the stages that she will be performing, which I appreciate since then I know what to expect. As the magician worked, we chatted how she enjoyed performing haircut transformations. My hair is thick, long and most stylist can't cut my hair to make it work. I have to say Bailey was one of the best magician I had that can cut my hair to a short hairdo. Not only was it done nicely, but Bailey ensure that the haircut has minimal afterwash care (*swoon* I love low maintenance) Overall, I will likely come back again to have the ladies work on their magic on me again so that I get compliments everyday with minimal effort.

Great stylists here! Come see for yourself! Great location! Awesome products by Davines! Fun and bright but a chill cozy space to get all your hair dreams fulfilled!

If I could give 0 stars I would. Now I understand that due to Covid, there are new policies put in place for most business, so leaving the salon with wet hair due to time issues isn't a big deal. Paying for my hair before it was complete, (leaving a 22% tip) before I could see the outcome was questionable at the time, but even more so now. What is a big deal, is that I spent over $350 to have my hair done and left with a skunk like dye job. I called immediately, and requested to have it fixed. The artist that did my hair, did come in on her day off, early before the salon opens to "fix" my hair. She put a toner on it, leaving again with wet hair, I had to wait until I got home to see the actual colour. (orangeish rust yellow) You will see in the pics that the one where I'm wearing a tanktop is the first failure and the ones where i wearing a hoodie is when its been "fixed" (I've also included the inspo pic which the artist said she loved and we could totally do) After reaching out via instagram asking for the managers email, I was giving the general info email, and sent a message asking for some sort of reimbursement, or at least some acknowledgement to the situation. I sent that email over a week ago, and still no answer. I essentially paid over $300 to have my hair ruined, then even more to have it fixed by a different artist. The artist at East Vanity after reaching out to her personally said she "didnt understand herself why the colour didnt take to anything but my roots" - so did she know that I was walking around with a skunk on my head? All in all, I am so disappointed not only in this traumatic hair experience, but with the lack of professionalism from this small business.

Names provided on their website. Sitting in my styling chair and having Kim take care of me, I was actually quite impressed. Not only was she a delight to deal with but she's an absolute expert at what she does...I received exactly what I was looking for. I was really enjoying myself...the energy, the vibe and knowing I was in good hands with Kim who was cutting my hair for the first time. I was in this Zen place thinking to myself in my chair ....finally I found my salon. ........................Until At the end, as I was checking out.....Luna charged me $120. I reminded her that actually Kim's fee for a woman's cut on the website is $100. She mentioned that this is the minimum and that it can increase based on the length of hair, quality of hair...and this and that....which is funny because they call you before the appointment and ask you all that stuff, but don't mention any price increase, until you have to pay....lol I asked her again and she said, the website is not accurate... wow...ok.... Anyhoo, I did find it a little disingenuous especially considering that Kim my stylist mentioned it was easy to cut my hair because of how healthy it is...so why the extra charge then?..... Anyway, moving on....Kim gave me a great cut and she's worth every dollar. What really pissed me off was something else..... I was paying cash, and as I handed Luna my bills she asked would you like change back? I said yes. Twice she asked me and then gave me this look like you're not leaving a tip?! She asked me again, you want ALL of it back?...Yes, I said....As I wanted to manage the tip situation with Kim herself upon a little chat before heading out. What made this even worse was, as Luna was giving me back my change...she dropped every single nickel, dime and Loonie on the desk. Before giving me ....this judgemental look. Every single minute of that enjoyable experience in that salon before checkout crashed and burned. Ok....I'll tell you....it wasn't even the money. I felt judged. I did speak with Kim afterwards outside only to be fair, as I wanted her to know, because she is a great stylist. However, it is exactly due to people like the front desk girl Luna cashing me out that I will not return here. I'm sad to say. Hair salons are like any other businesses. Reception is everything. The first thing the customers experiences and the last thing the customer leaves with...either brings them back or not. Interestingly, Upon arrival, the front girl was someone else and her energy and service matched an upscale environment, professional and courteous. Pity for them she wasn't the one at the front as I was leaving. If you are the reception for the evening, it is not your business how much tip clients leave or choose not to leave. It is however, your business to problem solve which she didn't do. At all. "The website is not accurate" is all she gave me with a blank stare. She didn't even attempt to ask or consult my stylist about the fee confusion, or to ask management to look into the matter and honor what could have simply been an honest misunderstanding. She just dropped my change as you would throw a street performer without a second thought, as to customer satisfaction or your own professional responsibility to the salon and its owner. If it weren't for Kim's great cut they'd only get 1 star.

Beautiful decor ( even though shower curtains were all over the place, due to covid ) but the place looked neat and clean along with good n simple decor. Proper safety measures were taken from sanitation to face covering at all times. There is a small area for kevin retail products which you are not pushed to buy if you don't want them. (Plus point coz if anyone is interested to buy , the person will ask just like i did) yah! I got the "against the gravity" hair spray for volume and it is amazing. Not too sticky n heavy and not too light. My hair stylist patiently listened to my requirements and respectfully suggested her options. I liked the overall look of my hair and especially her own hair. Just stylishly perfect to the personalities.

The layers were exactly what I wanted (I showed her a picture). I found the massage relaxing and a nice extra touch. The inside of the salon is small, with 5-6 seats iirc. It's clean with an industrial vibe. Pricing was reasonable for the service and results. I'll definitely be coming back.

I decided to try this place again, and booked my first haircut with Zen. I could tell that he is popular as I had to book my appointment one month before to get a slot. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Zen at the front door. He asked if I have appointment, and proceeded to ask for my vaccine card and ID before letting me in. Once seated, he asked me what kind of hair style I wanted to get. I described to him, the length and the image I wanted. Then he told me to move to the hair washing station, he washed my hair and gave me head massage. When I get back to my seat, he gave me mini shoulder massage. It was a very relaxing experience! We had a bit of casual conversation throughout the haircut experience, about his background and where he came from. I specifically asked for short bangs and he asked my daily routine. He wanted to make sure that he cut my bangs to the style that I can maintain everyday. I was really happy with the result. The price is slightly more expensive than with other stylist or other places, but it is totally justifiable. Nit, on the website, it says that haircut include eyebrow cut, but he did not offer it maybe due to COVID-19?

I made an appointment for a haircut. Usually a haircut means including shampoo and blow dry. If I…read morewant a single cut only I would specify that. However, when I sat down, Ada start to cut my hair and spraying water. I thought maybe she will wash my hair later. She didn't; she just said she would put some moroccan oil on my hair because my hair was dry. I was skeptical about it because when I was at another hair salon, the hairstylist put the moroccan oil after my hair has been washed. Then she asked Richard to turn on the curler. I felt odd because I didn't ask for my hair to be curly. I was the last customer of the day. She just kept cutting and then she curled the ends of my hair. She said, "I want you to have a different style. Do you know the star XXX? She looks nice with this hairstyle." But that is not what I'd asked for; I just want my hair to be straight with layers and the ends trimmed. She also said," I bought the curler for $100 but now curlers are so cheap, only $40 something. You see how I curled the hair? I will teach you next time." It was strange that she said that; no hairstylists would say that when they curled your hair. It was 30 degrees outside but she asked Richard to turn off the air conditioning. Saving electricity? I don't know why. She kept cutting then she asked me to stand up to let her see my hair. She said she would see my hair better if I stand up. If she cannot cut my hair using the mirror nor just by looking at my face while I was sitting, she is genuinely unprofessional. This is the first time that a hairstylist asked me to stand up in order for him/her to cut the hair. The phone rang after a few seconds, I sat down as she went to answer the phone. When she took off the towel on my shoulder and the protective coat that I wore after she finished cutting my hair. She said. "Wait, your hair." The she cut the ends of my hair again on my shirt and she said, "Don't move" as her scissor was close to my neck. It is really unprofessional for the hairstylists to cut the hair again after they took off the towel and the protective coat. She charged me the price of a single cut at the end. However, I never ask for a single cut only; I expect the haircut includes shampoo and blow dry. Also, I, the client, shouldn't need to stand up for her to see and to cut my hair; that just means she is unskillful. Moreover, she shouldn't cut the client's hair after taking away the towel and the protective coat from his/her clothes. Importantly, she didn't cut the hairstyle that I, the client, had asked for. She had done a hairstyle that she wants instead. If she is that arrogant, then I will just try another hair salon. P.S. After I washed my hair that night and the curls were gone, I realized that my hair on the right side is half inch shorter than my hair on the left side. I suspect that the good reviews were written by their relatives or friends, or just for a discount from the hair salon. Their prices are not cheap; same prices as other Chinese hair salons. The owners (Ada and Richard) are not professional at all, regarding their skills and service. There are better choices of Chinese hair salons in Vancouver.
