I rarely write negative reviews, but my experience with Salon Supernova was deeply disappointing and incredibly stressful. I had booked a hair color appointment weeks in advance for an important family event, my Goddaughter's wedding this weekend in Kelowna. I traveled from Chicago to Vancouver specifically in part for this appointment and paid a 50 percent deposit for a service costing over $500. Yesterday, I received a confirmation reminder emphasizing that cancellations within 24 hours or no shows would result in a non refundable deposit. However, today, only four hours before my appointment, the salon called to cancel on me. I was informed they could not accommodate me with another stylist either. I calmly explained my situation and that I only had today available before leaving for the wedding. The response was essentially that nothing could be done. When I asked to speak with the manager, the staff member rudely refused, said she would "inform the manager," then abruptly ended the call. I understand emergencies and scheduling issues can happen. What was most upsetting was the complete lack of accountability, empathy, professionalism, or effort to help resolve the situation, especially from a salon operating at this price point. A business that strictly enforces cancellation policies on clients should hold itself to the same standard of responsibility and customer care. read more

I was in Vancouver for a convention. I'd stayed on the North Shore and was wandering around your hood looking for coffee and saw your place next door. My hair was long because, I don't know, was maybe experiencing a bit of hippie-fight-the-power-freak-flag-fu. But I liked the IDEA of long hair better than ACTUAL long hair. Coming from Los Angeles where there are master hairstylists galore, I really struggled to find a great hair salon that wasn't 3 months booked out. We both had tried several places that just wrecked our hair. I went in for a consultation for myself at Supernova and was so pleased with the hair knowledge and experience I booked an appointment for myself. My daughter in the meantime was home from school and really needed her hair colored/highlighted and trimmed. I was able to get her in with Allie as she had a cancellation. Today my daughter went in and WOW!!! Allie is a ROCKSTAR with hair!! She literally repaired, styled and beautifully colored my daughters hair. She is over the moon happy. I can't thank Allie enough for her amazing skills with hair. I'm very much looking forward to getting my own hair done at this salon and my trepidation is gone. read more

Visited Supernova Salon for the second time this year. It's only been a few weeks since the salon opened after being closed due to Covid-19 but I can say that they are operating without any issues given all of the restrictions. They have sanitizer stations throughout the salon, the chairs are spaced out to every 2 chairs, they require masks upon entry and some wear face shields as well. They are not offering drink service or magazines for obvious reasons. I felt very comfortable from start to finish and am really happy I was able to get my hair done! The only downside was that they were running slightly behind so I had to wait about 15 minutes in the lobby until my stylist was done. I got my cut from Gabby and she did a great job!! It was a bit hard to speak/hear as we both were wearing masks, but she definitely did her best to try to maintain conversation! I was really happy with the results of my new haircut and can't wait to come back in 3 months! read more

I went there and showed a picture of the hair I wanted. I asked for a balayage and they said it would be $300. I was there for 5-6 hours getting my hair done. At the end it was highlights, not a balayage but it still looked good which is why this is one star. When I go to pay they charged me $600. I paid for it, but they didn't do what I wanted with my hair and charged me double for it. This review should honestly have no stars but the hair turned out well in the end but super unprofessional. read more

This is a tough review to write, since I have had many great experiences with Supernova. Unfortunately, I recently learned the hard way that some of the more junior stylists just don't have enough skill or experience to handle clients on their own. My last experience was so bad that I won't return. I had very bad colour application and ended up having to get my hair fixed elsewhere. I did email Supernova to explain the issues and the response received was pretty terrible. I finally got a refund from Supernova after much persistence, but I can't get back the time lost. My advice: if you go to Supernova for colour, see Dana or Victoria. Mathieu was awesome too, but he's gone now. read more

I was visiting from out of town, and I really was in need of a color. My gray is very stubborn and was very keen on having a Wella salon do the work. Supernova is an awesome place that I came across and was fortunate enough to have Travis perform the color and Dana was there as well giving me guidance on my visit to the area and onto Victoria. BE AWARE!!! Ask for a receipt and go over your bill before you leave Supernova. Always confirm what you are getting done and how much it costs before Jude starts to do your hair. I have been a very long and loyal client of hers. I was extremely hurt and upset when I found out she totally took advantage of me by adding services (upswell) we never discussed. This is NOT the first time this happened to me. It happened to one of her long time client and I was there to experience how upset she was as well when she got her bill. She charged me for a "Toner Add on" that I never got. She confirmed that it was a mistake and I asked her for a refund of a extra charge. Her response was "I will ask a manager". I waited it for 3 days for her to respond and never got back to me. I ended up calling Supernova to get my refund. A very poor customer service!!! BE AWARE....because she is a master stylist and she does not have an assistant to wash your hair. Jude charges $65 for a wash and blow dry which takes less than 15 minutes to do. I got a "Colour Solid 1" and "Full Balayage". Wouldn't anyone think that a wash should be a part of service when you get a colour done and a quick blow dry. It's a tough time for everyone during Covid19 and we need to be more compassionate when it comes to business. Don't take advantage of people who are there to support you! read more

OMG!!!! Thank the Yelp gods that I found this place, because yesterday I went in with a long, dry, sad mop of hair and left with a beautiful new choppy long bob that makes me feel great and has already gained me 6 new Instagram followers, WOOO!! But no, seriously, this salon is top notch. From the moment I walked in I was welcomed with a smile from the receptionist and a big cup of fresh, hot coffee. Since I was early I had to wait a few minutes and while doing so I checked out the place. The space is huge, airy, and oh so chic. The decorations are minimal but have a huge impact and the only real word I can use to describe it is "cool".... Really really cool. I loved the huge display of products and the cute seating area, as well as the abundance of chairs that weren't cramped together, the huge mirrors were super fun and the little closet where you hang your jacket and "robe up" was a nice touch. There's 2 separate rooms for colour and washing, which I thought was awesome as its sometimes annoying to hear and smell other people getting their treatments done. I loved the wallpaper in the back 2 rooms, they tied the decor together really nicely. The upstairs from what I could see looked like more space for hair and makeup, and I loved the staircase just because it was so big and grand. Bella did my hair, and she was FANTASTIC!!! She was super friendly, did exactly what I wanted, and didn't make me feel as if she was bored or rushed. I'm definitely going back to her for colour and eventually my next cut. Dana worked a miracle on my hair. Another stylist at another salon super botched my hair ... And then decided bleach would " fix" it. Sad to say I went into Dana with a multi- coloured, straw dry mess. Clearly my hair had been badly mistreated. BUT .... Dana saved the day and totally transformed my hair. Dana was confident and made me feel at ease. Goodbye blotchy mess, hello shining, soft hair. AND the best colour work I have ever had. Ever. The staff are highly professional and provide very good service (little complimentary chocolate, tea, great music... the whole 9 yards). I went in for the Kerastraight treatment which is rather pricey (~350$) and the first time around the treatment didn't show any noticeable difference on my hair for some reason and I was disappointed. I informed the salon of this and the stylist met with me again and took the time to redo the treatment (another 3 hours of her time) to ensure it worked... and it did- my hair is much much less frizzy, softer and falls rather than poofs. I went in to have my color fixed...to say I was nervous would be an understatement . Mathieu was amazing! We discussed color options and right away I felt comfortable with him. He took such care and time with me. The result? I've never been so happy with my hair! The color is perfect ..yes..perfect! He cleaned up the cut as well. I've been to a lot of stylists and a lot of salons . Mathieu is the most incredible and talented artist I've ever met.
