I had booked a hair color appointment weeks in advance for an important family event, my Goddaughter's wedding this weekend in Kelowna. I traveled from Chicago to Vancouver specifically in part for this appointment and paid a 50 percent deposit for a service costing over $500. Yesterday, I received a confirmation reminder emphasizing that cancellations within 24 hours or no shows would result in a non refundable deposit. However, today, only four hours before my appointment, the salon called to cancel on me. I was informed they could not accommodate me with another stylist either. I calmly explained my situation and that I only had today available before leaving for the wedding. The response was essentially that nothing could be done. When I asked to speak with the manager, the staff member rudely refused, said she would "inform the manager," then abruptly ended the call. I understand emergencies and scheduling issues can happen. What was most upsetting was the complete lack of accountability, empathy, professionalism, or effort to help resolve the situation, especially from a salon operating at this price point. A business that strictly enforces cancellation policies on clients should hold itself to the same standard of responsibility and customer care.

I just did an easy straight blowout with no hot tools, but you get the idea. Looks even better with waves ;)

The salon itself it very cool - super aesthetic, good vibes, nice staff. They also have a great instagram page, which is how I found them. I would compare them to the internet hair gurus like Ahn Co Tran (of Ramirez Salon) and Sal Salcedo (of Nova Arts Salon). Very vibey. I will say, be prepared for a pretty steep bill. I expected it to be high because obviously they have a great internet presence and do great work, but I was still surprised by the final cost. Of course, I tipped on top of that because Yuri really did a great job. So the final bill was... staggering. However, I truly believe hair is one of the things you shouldn't cheap out on, especially if you're getting it coloured as well, like I did. A good balayage takes time and skill, and if you find a salon with prices that seem to good to be true, you probably won't be happy with the results (there are exceptions of course). I do wish they had some sort of promo or incentive for new customers. I see a lot of other salons offering either some % off or a free cut with a hair colour appointment for new customers. It would have been nice to see some summer promotion or something. Overall, if you can afford it, this is a great salon with a lot of talented hair dressers and colour specialists. You won't leave disappointed.

Ana was unfriendly, uncommunicative and did not make eye contact. She looked me up and down, head to toe judgementally. I ventured toward small chat to break the ice but she seemed beyond over it. When an aspiring Vancouver actress whom Ana recognized walked in to the salon, it was clear that Ana was not an introvert as she immediately changed her demeanour to chatty with the actress... all the while, ignoring me: the client in her chair. Ana was shallow; snobby and rude but let's talk about her her actual service. Ana gave me the worst blow dry of my entire life. I showed her pictures of my basic, voluminous blowdries of the past. She half rolled her eyes and looked away, annoyed that a pedestrian like me would dare suggest how she wants her hair done. Bizarre approach to customer service but, ok, maybe she'll surprise me and crush it?? When I asked her where she learned to do hair she mentioned a local makeup school telling me that make up is her actual passion. Uhh, again, you're supposedly doing my hair but admitting you're not great at it? Just to try and break the ice and appeal to HER interests for conversation, I said, "do you do makeup on the side?" and she snapped back, "I can't do your makeup. I do editorial." Lollll. Girl, I was not asking you to do my makeup. My hair is jaw-length and has natural wave and volume to it. Essentially, my hair takes very easily to a blowout! Oddly, Ana used zero tension on the brush, and haphazardly waved the blow dryer at the ends making the hair more frizzy than when I came in. I showed her a picture again of a decent blowout and she said nothing. $55 later, I left the salon with limp, fuzzy hair. The roots were completely damp. Yes, damp. My friends stared at me strangely when I told them I had just come out from getting my hair did. :( I'm embarrassed that I left a big tip. I did so because I didn't want to reciprocate her snobbiness with cheap character.

She's on her own now but I've hardly ever had to wait for my turn as she's so efficient. Her prices are still reasonable. Nondescript exterior just off Lonsdale where the buses run along 15th East, next to Palki's Indian restaurant.

I had a consulation and she assured me that once I got home and played around with it and used wig tape, all would be good. But it doesnt sit on my crown (top of my head) and when I pull it down so it does, the sides cover my ears!! Ridiculous! Instead of telling me the wig was too big (keeping in mind, shes placing it on my head, not me), they should have told me they would order the appropriate size. I have a very small head. No refunds, No exchanges, although you wont find that policy on their website or the receipt. Stylist forgot to mention it as did the receptionist taking my payment. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM. They should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves.

My hair cut is excellent and my hair colour is exactly what I had in mind. Also, the salon did a great job of making me feel safe, as clients are spaced far apart, and all stylists were wearing protective gear. Two thumbs way up!
