Elegant restaurant with beautiful 23rd floor views. Very creative cocktail menu. I enjoyed a pink libation with aquavit and absinthe and I don't even know what. Quite unusual and delicious. I tried the 7 course journey so I could experience a lot of different dishes. The dollar is relatively strong right now so the roughly $100 inclusive price was quite reasonable, IMHO, given the venue, service, and quality. Wine pairing is available for an additional price.
When you order the journey you get little extras and amuse bouche to start, which is nice. The tuna sushi situation with coconut sauce was delicious. The extra dish of minced scallop neck on the half shell was served on a lovely bed of washed beach treasure like pretty stones and shells. The turbot curry was quite outstanding in flavor.
Not everything is perfect, though. A fried mushroom dish was very tough (impossible to bite through) and soggy with oil (likely fried at too low temperature). The level of umami is very high in every dish, where an occasional choice with something acidic or bright would break up the sameness. There was a quite nice Thai fish soup with chiles that was exactly right to switch up the palate, so they are definitely capable of making minor adjustments like that. The pork confit wasn't as tender as it should have been and the accompanying kimchi wasn't authentic at all.
In short, I would strongly recommend it for drinks but dinner is probably better downstairs at Basalt. read more
