Update 11/9/12: Sara addressed my health concerns via email and voice mail. She made a serious effort so I am upgrading them to 3 stars. Please offer towels to your new patrons when they come in. I had no idea it was even an option. Parking is a PITA. If you have to wait, better make sure you feed the meter with enough quarters. The parking enforcement is rabid in MB. The treatment: Hurt like HELL. They boast its not as painfull as waxing but that is not true. It is not any easier than wax and it was more uncomfortable because the sugar is at room temperature so it doesn't glide easily over your skin. There is tugging and pulling. When the sugar is lifted it hurt worse than the hard wax at my day spa. She also doesn't use any spatulas to apply the wax, she uses her fingers and litterally on a brazillian wax was in more personal places than I felt comfortable. I was already naked and full of sugar so what am I to do? I just went with it. When Sara found out I had a Groupon, she asked me where I lived, I told her Lomita. She commented that "Oh it went that far" and looked at me like I lived in the ghetto of Wilmington. This snobby attitude made for the rest of the session very uncomfortable. Privacy and hygiene. She wears gloves, but there is very little privacy and like I said before, she doesn't use any spatulas so her fingers are going to be in places that made me very uncomfortable. You are in a corner of a salon with a shower curtain pulled around. I didn't like this , nor did I like the fact that the table is not covered and my ass was on a table that your ass was on too without any covering. Isn't there heath dept. laws against this? I gave this two stars because it did last about a week longer than my traditional brazillian wax but I won't be returning. I have found my new Airbrush tanning place! I made a last minute appointment and the entire experience was seamless and pleasant. The location is easy to find with lots of parking. The suite is very clean. Sarah was ready when I got there. She explained every step of the tanning application. I felt very comfortable during the process. She was quick but thorough. Now one day later, my tan has developed into the most beautiful bronze color. I feel kind of weird writing about this on yelp in case my pastor ever stumbles onto this review.... I promise I'm not doing anything naughty - I just like to be clean! This review is for the sugar waxing. Parking: If you are feeling especially cheap because you had just paid exorbitant amounts of money to park in downtown LA that morning (ie, like me), park in the residential area - it's really not that far of a walk. There is also a strip of free parking in front of the trails, by the Lemonade cafe/restaurant. If it is the holiday season and the parking meters are covered with a red hat cover, you have 2 hours. Tips: + Make your appointment by texting or calling. + Don't make an appt if hair is in two/three/more than one different growth cycles. Sugaring won't get the baby ones! + Location: upstairs in a loft; the only indication of the place is a large 1015 and a kiss mark on a paper posted against the door window. + Location of the sugaring: in a shower curtain area in the corner. I had no problems with this. + Don't be shy! You'll make it awkward! The lady will be focusing on warming the sugar, so just strip and lie down face up on the towel. + Quick: takes about 5 minutes, which is a big fat plus over waxing, which takes centuries in comparison, with a little less pain level because the sugar isn't hot like wax. + Some people might get squeamish about the bare hands approach, but the lady washes her hands. + Sugar is water soluble and won't get sticky like wax. + Tip: I'm thinking $5-10 is good for tip. Bring cash. My lady was soft spoken (and I am hard of hearing) and a true professional. I'm giving 4 stars for negative stars the front desk earned because even though they knew it was my first time there they were more interested in either their paperwork, on the cellphone, or talking to other employees than giving me pointers on the sugaring location, sitting area, anything. I figured everything out, but the silence was awkward and really off-putting. I'm not expecting 10 star service but can I at least get a "Bye!" if not a "Goodbye! See you soon!"? I came back up the stairs 30 seconds later because I had forgotten my drink, and again no acknowledgment. Damn! This makes me sound so whiny and unloved! I heard about sugaring hair removal from my dear friend, who had nothing but great things to say about her experience and results. i had waxed once, 2 years ago, worst experience,so painfull and i was not impressed with the results, so i swore off waxing. So i decided id try sugaring atleast once. My friend and i set up an appointment for this past Saturday with Kasey, (TMI ALERT) it was that time of the month and i was still able to keep my appointment, if your wondering if you can or not, while its that time of the month. Kasey was very comforting it being my first time..etc..now im not gonna lie it did HURT lol but again, last waxed 2 years ago & it was that time of the month. Kasey works with you and makes you feel very comfortable..i wasnt the easiest client lol she was very sweet..THANKS KASEY! I was out in 15 minutes, I was mildly sore for the remainder of the day..but im probably a wimp lol. i LOVED the results and am looking forward to our next appointment wich i hear from my friend is less painfull and the results get better :) All in all definitely give sugaring @ SUGARLIPS a try with Kasey and you'll never go back to waxing. I found a deal for Sugarlips Esthetique on Living Social so I thought I would give it a shot. It's located in a cute little salon in Manhattan Beach. It took me a couple of minutes to locate it but it's really not that hard to spot. I quickly signed in and filled out a form since it was my first visit. Since my appointment was earlier in the morning, there wasn't much of a wait. I was expecting to go into a room of some sort but was surprised when I realized that the waxing table was just to the side of a room separated by a curtain. Although the curtain was covering the table completely, it just made me nervous the entire time whether someone would be able to see or not. Sarah nicely explained the whole sugaring process and we got started right away. They say sugaring is less painful but I will have to disagree and say that waxing is less painful. I will admit though that sugaring left me with no red bumps that I normally get with waxing. It was also much faster than waxing. It literally took me 15 minutes to fill out the form, chit chat with Sarah and the whole sugaring process. Would definitely try it again! Just taking a star away for the following: -the table to the side of the room separated by a curtain (would prefer a separate room) -kind of expensive ($65 every 3-4 weeks is just not in my budget) -she missed a few hairs If you've never tried it though, you should definitely give sugaring a shot! :) read more

I started coming here since the end of last year...I believe it was either November or December. The first time I came here, Ashley was the one who helped me get a Brazilian wax. I'm not going to lie, it was pretty painful because it was my first time getting waxed in that area. I've come back a few more times after and Sarah has been my go-to person! I have tried hard waxing and strip waxing techniques at different salons for the last 8 years. After a while, I figured the best waxing salon or technique was one that was the cheapest and removed the most hair without burning. Today was my second appointment. This is what i found: One- it is is beautifully located next to beach. The only bummer is the price. Getting sugared is much more hygienic and gives greater results than waxing. Frankly, I rely on sugaring and threading for hair removal because my skin's too sensitive for anything else. However, because it's $65 for a full Brazilian sugaring, I have to wait longer between sessions, which is a drag. If the price were dropped $10, I'd be in more often. read more

So sorry Raya... you may have been officially replaced. This place definitely did not disappoint. Friend had gotten 2 Groupon deals for a sugaring session and although we were nearly an hour late for our appointment they still squeezed us in. The only major difference between a sugaring and waxing would be their length of time. My own session took less than 5 min. The pain has yet to change but hey.. at least its quick. Sugaring also causes less tearing and since it's made with all natural ingredients.. less chance of irritations. Hm... we shall see. Aside from that.. the sugar was not hot so there was no pain in that regard to waxing. Situated in a Montrose-like area with many boutiques, bakeries, creperies etc.. all with a great view of the ocean. My only complaint is that the place is way too far out of the way to get to. Completely underestimated the traffic.. hence my tardiness. Prices can be a bit stiff.. but they really are fantastic. Would I go again? Definitely. read more

My curiosity was piqued from a girlfriend and being a fan of Groupon, I decided to take a chance here in my neighborhood. I am now a fan!!! I was fortunate to have Kasey as my esthetician and she explained the whole process before we started, options and all. It was a busy night my first time and women from all races and walks of life came in. I didn't feel alone. The salon was nice and the balcony was lovely, parking is on the street or metered so come prepared to walk a little bit and have quarters available. I'm not a fan of hot wax being in such sensitive areas since my eyebrow experience was enough for me and I have to agree, this is a much nicer alternative. You are left smooth, soft and clean :-) and no chances of 'burns". Now you will feel it when the hairs are being removed, unless you have no nerve endings the first time will be slightly uncomfortable. But if you've grown accustomed to tweezing your brows, this is the same. The second time I only winced for a moment and then less than 10 mins it was all good again. read more

HONEY Let me tell you! This is the best thing since sliced bread!!!! I had a baby in October and had not been waxed since before then (you can only imagine -_-) I text the number to see if they would happen to have any openings the same day...sure enough she had one opening today! I took it right away. I arrived at my appointment time and filled out the paperwork since I was new and she was ready for me right away. Parking on Manhattan ave is usually terrible, but I was able to find a spot just down the street at a meter. Its upstairs in a loft salon and made private by a curtain similar to that of a shower curtain. Sarah waited while I undressed (that sounds naughty but I dont mean it like that) it didnt bother me because hey she was going to be face to face with my unmentionables in just a few moments! The "sugar ball" as its referred to was not hot at all...in fact, I dont think it even felt warm. Although that could be due to the heat from her new lights ;-) or the fact that I was super nervous and sweat profusely when im nervous. None-the-less she got right to it. Powder....sugar.....smush on in one direction......yank in the other direction. At first it was painful, but there was no lingering sting like waxing has!!! I was like OMG if I can get through this Im never going back to waxing again. A few powder, sugar, smush, yanks later I was done....in under 20 minutes! I immediately made my appointment for 4 weeks out! I can't wait to tell all my waxie buddies that they need to move on and become my sugar buddies (sounds much cuter too!) After years of using the sugaring method in another state I was so pleased to stumble upon a groupon for this very cute salon in my neighborhood. I was so beyond pleased with the services and location that this has become my regular place. Kacey my esthetician was wonderful and although I had a general knowledge of the procedure was kind enough to review the whole process for me. The first time can be a bit painful but less so than any hot wax. Successive appointments are much quicker and less painful. I have never liked the hot wax method and I am so happy that to have found this salon that provides this nicer alternative with a cleaner result. I love this place and the service so much that I am willing to drive out of the San Fernando Valley to get this done! The first detail that draws my attention is the location, which could be a little skeptical at first because it's located in a corner covered with what looks like curtains or shower curtains of a hair salon. Not complaining! But definitely a first impression. After that, everything is smooth sailing. I've only had one lady do the service for me and she is completely professional, quick, clean and gentle! She mentioned once that she first started in a Santa Monica location, which I most recently visited due to it's convenience coming from the San Fernando Valley. That location in Santa Monica was a horrible experience. Service was rude. Location was too cramped and the lady who did my sugaring was soooooooo slow. I found Sugarlips a few days before heading out of town. Everything had to be perfect! Kasey IS THE BEST! She was fast! Very meticulous (that's important to me). She got the shape of my Brazilian with a little trail for fun just, perfect! I had no skin irritation afterward. I love going to Sugarlips! Ashley is great. It only takes 10 minutes to get a full Brazilian sugaring wax, and I find it to be less painful than regular wax. I love how scheduling services are all through text, and their new location in El Segundo inside Sola Salon is great. Parking is easy to find, and they have a larger facility than when they were located in Manhattan Beach. They offer spray tans too! I haven't tried one yet, but I plan to before a special event.
