I have a rosin/colophony allergy (main ingredient in traditional wax) that would make me break out in very hives that would last weeks. Sugaring NYC offers an organic solution to wax, sugar, water and lemon so there's no irritation or allergic reactions. I think it's a lot less painful than traditional waxing as well. This place is really clean and cute inside but VERY pink so you know the demographic lol. I went in for a brazilian and was waxed by Kaya who was very nice and professional. This was my first time going and being waxed with sugar wax. I already have my go-to lady but this was a sweet backup. Sugar wax is a different feeling than the hard wax I'm use to. It might hurt a bit more but I also hadn't been in like 3 months lol. The only thing keeping this review from being 5 stars is the detail work I usually get from my go-to. Had a wax with Monica yesterday. I was asked to strip and lay down on the waxing table, where I lay half naked for OVER 7 minutes while Monica chatted with the other employee on the other side of the door. I was very close to getting up and leaving it was so uncomfortable. The sugaring application was extremely painful and rough and I mentioned this and no adjustments were made. I've had this service before with Amaya and it was very good, so I know what to expect. Monica missed a huge patch of hair so I had to open the door half naked and call her back in to finish the job. And now that I'm home and inspecting, there are so many missed hairs and so many broken hairs. I'm so disappointed. So let me start by saying the location itself is nicely decorated, but that's where I run out of positive things to say. I visited this business to have sugaring done on my underarms. From what I have read about sugaring, it is supposed to be less painful and better for you than waxing. Under normal circumstances, I get my waxing done at a completely different salon; however, the technician who does my waxing was booked. This is why I decided to try this salon and sugaring. The first thing that struck me as odd was the text I received from the salon approximately one minute after my appointment time. The text stated the salon was going to charge me a 25% cancellation fee if I didn't get there within their 5-minute grace period. I got there (according to my clock) three minutes later. Yes, I agree that I was late, but I found it odd that they were texting me only one minute after my appointment time. Second, there are no wraps to wrap around yourself when getting the procedure. Instead, I was taken into a room and told to just take off my shirt and lay there. Nothing was given to me to wrap around my chest. This would have made the experience a bit less awkward. Finally, and this is most important, the procedure was extremely painful. Sugaring made waxing seem like a stroll in the park. The sugar mixture was very sticky and was painfully spread (it was almost too sticky to spread) on my underarms, which pulled aggressively on my skin. The sugar was so sticky that I had to hold on to the top of the table I was lying on. It left my skin raw and red and was extremely painful--it was comparable to five times what waxing feels like. This felt more like glue than a sugar mixture, and I don't think I've ever felt that much pain, nor do I ever want to feel that much pain again. My underarms still feel really raw and sore, almost like a rug burn. They were also very sticky when I left. I didn't notice it at first because I was trying to get the heck out of there; my underarms felt like they were on fire. The main thing that puzzles me is that in all the times I have had waxing, I have never felt that much pain (during or after). My conclusion is that the sugaring hair removal service I had was more like a mini torture session that I paid for. Ladies Beware! read more

I got a lash lift from here. It was fine, the place is cute. I don't know if my eyelashes are incapable of curling but from other lifts I've got they look more curled. After my lift here they look the same if not slightly lifted. Kind of disappointed after paying $99 for it. read more
