Saw this shop open up a while ago but didn't want to deal with the queue when I've walked past. Finally I was able to hit it up and was happy with the results. I will preface this by saying I've never had sugarcane drinks before or been a fan of sweet tea. It was, however, pretty interesting to see the workers cut the sugar cane and grind it. You choose an additional flavor of juice to put on top and then sip away! The day I went they had watermelon as a special and pineapple and kumquat left as they had already sold out of dragonfruit. The sugarcane drink is sweet as you'd expect and slightly like the consistency of coconut water as opposed to an aloe drink (bear with me I'm trying to have this make sense). The added juice makes the drinks very pretty but only adds a background of flavor to the sugarcane drink itself. She lives outside NYC and recently discovered this place, and I knew we had to go on a recent trip up north. This place is an absolute gem! It's connected to a larger pho restaurant, but they have a separate window where they sell sugarcane drinks. They come in two sizes and iced or non iced. In addition, they also have optional flavorings add-on such as watermelon and coconut. I prefer the natural sugarcane drink. They have a machine where they insert a skinned sugarcane stick and juice comes out. Then, they filter out leftover pieces. The whole process can be seen through the windows. What a wonderful little spot! This place is a window with a small sign hanging inside so it may be a little hard to spot immediately. I believe they are connected to a Vietnamese restaurant. The young lady that served me was super sweet and offered advice (that I requested) on additional fruit purée flavors that are most popular (she recommended kumquat). I ordered two drinks--one with watermelon juice and the other with pineapple. At first I was a little concerned that the ratio of sugarcane juice to fruit juice would be overwhelmingly sugarcane (they put about two tablespoons or so of the fruit juice), but it wasn't! It was delicious and I could still clearly taste the watermelon and the pineapple in both drinks! Although, the lady that ordered after me did seem to be a regular at the spot and ordered a half sugarcane and half coconut, so if you want a more even mix, that may be a possibility and I wouldn't mind trying that next time. I recommend their watermelon if they have it--I believe it is seasonal, and I am eager to come back and try coconut and dragon fruit next!
