OK, it was the Caran D'ache Grafcube, red tint. There's no place that has this and I *had* to have it *now*, so I checked Blick's website and the store availability checker... In stock in Harlem (only). I'm in Brooklyn but it's a nice bike ride, so on my way... I get there, it's right near the Studio Museum (YES! MY FAVORITE NYC MUSEUM) I find the right aisle, I find the Caran D'ache case which says "Grafcube RGB" - the EMPTY case! The lady who had already offered to help me was still nearby, so I asked her. She checked and the inventory system said there were several in stock. There are overstock cartons above the shelves, labelled with brand or media type. This incredible person (drum roll here...) N'Deye (pronounced En-Day, BTW) reassures me that we'll find them, gets a ladder and starts taking down and going through each obvious carton. When we've exhausted those, she then goes through the non-obvious cartons. We examined about 30 cartons(!) When we cannot find them, she gets a colleague (manager maybe) and he tells her some things to check in the inventory system and they determine that they're not actually in the store (last received over a year ago), maybe stolen. N'Deye then apologized so profusely and sincerely. Hey. at this point I was so touched by all of the attention that had been given, I was fine :) So... disappointing trip...? From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed. There were other kids happily making soap, and the woman who greeted us kindly explained that we could pick whatever we wanted to paint. Once we selected our items, we paid and were set up at a table with paints, brushes, and an apron. I'm so glad she made sure we knew the paint didn't wash out of clothes. Pro-tip: Even if you're not painting, wear the apron. Trust me, your shirt will thank you for this advice! The kids had an absolute blast. It was so interactive, and once they finished, they had blow dryer stations so we could dry the paint. The best part? They took the painted items to the back and made them all shiny! I have been to many stores that look like this anywhere from New York to Paris. To others, who are used to to Big Box fabric shops such as Joann's Fabric, this place may seem chaotic. I was so blown away by their prices, that I filled a luggage with my purchases and paid the $30 bucks fee to bring it home to Florida and I still saved a ton. They have everything! No real order, or like we say in Spanish: No tiene pies, ni cabeza. But you can see a little where they tried to organize their chaos. The store is very small and they just have a lot. I also saw a basement where I could see home fabrics, didn't look into them. The sales associate who helped me was also super nice and friendly. (It's keeping tabs on its reduced-fare riders). First I went to my local Chase branch asking for a Notary--no such luck. I continued my search on Broadway where I came across Janoff's Stationery store. I walked into the store looking for a Notary. A salesman informed me, "He's left for the day." Fine. I'll return in a couple of days. A couple of days passed and I continued my mission to the same location. Salesman says: "Could you wait for five minutes? The notary is out getting his lunch." A short time later, I received a new message. "Could you return in 25 minutes? The notary is eating lunch." I thought to myself: "Sure. What do you suggest I do? Take a tour of The Cathedral of St. John The Divine ?" Hasta la vista, shnooks! I walked south on Broadway to the corner of Broadway and W. 109th, where a new branch of Wells Fargo Bank had recently landed. I was greeted by the ever-so-nice Vanessa, who just happened to be a notary! She took me back to her office where she approved my document (and charged nothing). I just inherited my friends Key Chain Collection. I cleaned them up and I was so pleased they fit great in the tackle box. I'm going to enjoy photographing them and boring all of you with a photo of each one! For now here they are looking good in this convenient box. This is my honest review after attending COUPLES Night at Mugi Pottery…read more First, the studio was tall, well lit, ventilated, and we were greeted kindly by the 2 instructors. They checked our COVID vaccination card; process was smooth and seamless. For couples night, we each were given a large slab of clay, 2 rolling pins, and tools for only 1 person. There is NO wheel spinning and the clay comes out of the wash so you stay relatively clean (minus hands). I suggest you come with tight fitting clothing, hair up for long haired students, and sleeveless top so you can really get into the clay freely. I especially enjoyed that way the class was taught: it was done with several small demonstrations; after each demo we were released to do what was demonstrated, and came back together for the next demo. All the while the instructors were visiting each couple to help answer questions a give advice. I love this way so those who pick up the demo quick (me) can just go at it, while the slower people can get the extra help without bogging down the whole class. The entire class went for a little over 2hrs so there is certainly a time constraint. Overall, the experience was AMAZING! A wonderful way the spend the evening with a loved one. Since we typically like working with our hands and have done similar experiences before- we knew how work together and help each other out. So it's important to understand your partner's strengths and weaknesses so you'll have a happy time guiding and giving affirmation with the creations. I noticed several couple getting annoyed with each other and giving a "do whatever the f' you want" response- lol. PRO TIP: come in with something already conceptualized so you can go right to it. The slab was first roll to make a cylinder, and the creativity goes from there. Size, shape, and what you want to do will help save time towards your finished product (I came home afterwards only coming up with more I could have done to my creation!). Some made stemless mugs, jewelry box with a lid, luminary candle holders, jugs- so much you can do from the starting cylinder shape. Go on YouTube to get the technique in your head, check out Pinterest or print photos/ designs ahead of time- all of which would have helped me on my final project. Only thing I would have loved to see: since it was couples night- maybe some cut roses, maybe some wine, more tools, but overall- I HIGHLY recommend.
