We always have to try a donut place out everywhere we go. Fortunately, there was only 1 donut place here in Cashiers, so we didn't have to choose. Sugar Cloud has a very attractive store front and the interior matches that. I love all the things they have displayed in the store with coffee and candy and other stuff for sale. The display of cupcake and brownies were very tempting, but I was focused on the donuts. The best pricing would be to get half a dozen or a dozen (buy 5 get 1 free). We only ended up getting 3. The donuts are large in size and they make their own dough daily. First one we tried was the filled chocolate buttercream. It was truly FILLED with chocolate buttercream. Every single bite had chocolate buttercream. It was definitely fresh and delicious. The Samoa and maple bacon did not disappoint either. Although they were good, I felt the pricing was a bit steep and they weren't he best donuts I've ever had. But it was worth the stop and the calories! read more

maybe an off day, but we stopped in and bought half a dozen donuts to enjoy same-day for breakfast, and the gluten was over-developed so the texture was awful. They were totally unenjoyable, and after ensuring it was all of the donuts - not just a single bad one - we ended up throwing them all away. unfortunately, we aren't local, so this is my first and last impression, and it was not possible to return and give this feedback in person. the people who worked there were very nice, the shop was clean and it's a very cute location. read more

Sugar Cloud Baking Company - Champagne, cupcakes with cream cheese, butter, cream, ice cream? Yes please I'll take a doz - Custom Cakes Near Me - Cashiers, North Carolina

If you are in western North Carolina, in the vicinity of Highlands, on Highway 64 you just might blast your way past a charming little town of 157 people called Cashiers. And there you will find a niche business, just about all alone in this little mountain town, that has a mountain of a reputation for making the finest celebration cakes and pastries: Sugar Cloud Baking Company. It is a WONDERFUL bakery, full of whimsical cupcakes, donuts (fat little suckers), cookies and other little eatable things, along with a fascinating catalogue of wedding cakes...yes, to die for. Custom gift boxes are also orderable. Amazing. These bakers are artists in their own rights and cleaver bakers they are. The cakes are unique. Not just two or three or four increasing smaller cakes stacked to form a pyramid, but icing swirls, colors, flowers, tea pots, shoes (really!), cartoon characters...whatever someone came up with to order. Children ALWAYS like bakeries and they will be agog trying to figure out what they want, but will be happy with their big fat donuts. Cupcakes, too. And, cookies. The selection and creativity will blow your minds, let alone how good it tastes. One day they had small samplers of a wedding cake...like they would do for brides-to-be. I have to admit that I never found a wedding cake that was scrumptious, but I did that day. Treat yourselves. But go slow, or you will miss it. read more

I would give a 0 star review if I could. See the photos below! Unprofessional, lacks communication, over priced and just rude. read more

Came for the hype of the donuts ... very disappointed. No flavor and horrible texture. Also way over priced ($5 for one donut)

Undoubtedly the BEST donuts we have ever had!! We wanted to go back the next morning but ended up leaving town before they opened. Regrets knowing we may not be back in the area for more! Oh and the donuts are huge!! read more

I had a really nice experience here, I was referred from Gateaux bakery. I ordered a custom gift box for delivery and sugar cloud was able to accommodate. They're super nice and very helpful. I ordered edible arrangements last night and it came to $80 with delivery, which I ended up cancelling. 5 goodies and treats from Sugar cloud plus delivery was $46!! Super happy I was able to find something close to my friend since I'm from CA and their prices are reasonable. Plus there treats look amazing!! Wish I would have found out about them sooner. Would recommend! read more

Ordered a cake 9 days prior to when I needed it. Went to pick it up and the owner forgot to make it. Didn't even offer a discount on the doughnuts we bought while waiting for her to frantically figure out why she forgot to make the cake. read more

Stay away.... Over priced and better tasting doughnuts and cakes to be found elsewhere....

OMG - the best donuts we've ever tasted! I'm not kidding! If you are visiting Highlands or Cashiers you must go here! You will not be disappointed! read more

Serena is the BEST!!! She helped me out with a last minute bday cupcake request - right before Labor Day weekend, no less... Sugar Cloud was slammed! Serena had a HUGE wedding to get ready for but she was sweet and helpful and got my cupcakes (& donuts) delivered!! Needless to say everything was beautiful and tasty; she even put a little note on the box for me. Can't recommend more - wonderful business and REALLY great people. read more

The cake was amazing! So rich and beautiful. We got the champagne cake for an adult BD party. Owner was short on staff but still worked with me for a pick up time that was convenient for me. Great experience! read more

Took our family with 3 excited little boys here for donuts. Waited over an hour for 6 donuts (no exaggeration), and when we finally got it the entire order was wrong with ours nowhere in sight. Got a refund. No attempts to make it right by the owners; only excuses. What a bummer. We love supporting small businesses but this just isn't OK. I'm sure they're good people with good donuts...maybe just a bad morning. This was just our experience. read more

Lovely people, great treats! Highly recommend everything. We tried a chocolate cupcake, buttercream donut, and sea salt caramel ice cream. All were delicious! read more

We stopped in here this afternoon for an afternoon break. My husband and I shared an almond cupcake with cream icing which was very tasty. Also had a cup of local coffee from the Pisgah Coffee Roasters. Really good cup of coffee! You can also buy Pisgah Coffee in their shop. They had some great looking donuts but we settled on the cupcake. Maybe a donut some morning? read more

Fantastic donuts, super sweet owner, very cute place with unique tables and chairs definitely coming back.

We stopped by on a short visit to Cashiers hoping for a good doughnut and some coffee. The people who run it are super nice, but here's the issue; the doughnuts are $4.00 (four!) a piece. I can get behind an amazing donut at $4.00, but my wife described it as a breadstick with sugar on it. It was tough, dry and tasteless. I tasted and confirmed. It's a small town and I want to support small business, but for a donut shop, they must improve the product! read more

A cute little bakery with friendly staff and absolutely fantastic donuts. I have no idea how they get them to rise so big (and I regret not taking photos) but they're delicious and hold up remarkably well if any somehow survive until the next morning. If you're in the Cashiers or Lake Glenville area and enjoy donuts you owe it to yourself to check Sugar Cloud out! They do however make only a certain amount per day so they might be out if you go right before closing but they have a variety of cupcakes that also look good as heck so there's always something there to enjoy. read more

Terrible customer service. And cannot claim lack of help. While the owner stood there not a single person acknowledged us and we were the only people in the store. This is not a post after just one visit. I have given them the benefit of the doubt each time I visit but after today we won't be back. My daughter asked to leave but about that time someone asked to help us. I ordered a donut for my teenage son. He took a bite and refused to finish it. A bakery should be a welcoming friendly place. Someone can forgive a bad donut if it was at least a pleasant experience. read more

My wife went in and purchased several cupcakes and a brownie. It was horrible. The brownie was so hard I could not cut it with a fork, knife, or bite into it. When I stopped in the following morning the young lady working said they were made several days ago. I asked did she have any fresh ones and she said that they had not sold all of the last batch yet. I have called several times to speak to the manager or owner and left many messages she will not return my calls. Do not waste your hard earned money like I did. read more

Stopped one morning on the way to Lake Glenville for some donuts. The donuts were as fresh as a donut could be. They even waited to ice our order until after it was placed. Bring some napkins, the donuts are messy if you eat them right away. read more

Best donuts we ever had, they were served to us just a few minutes after coming out of the fryer. We ordered lemon filled, raspberry filled and cookies & cream. The cookies and cupcakes also looked amazing and we will definitely return to try those next. read more

Small little bakery that you could easily walk by and not even notice. Most of the items for sale when we were there were cupcakes or doughnuts, but we were there early afternoon and I believe they close before 5pm so there might be more selection if you get there earlier. What we did get was all fantastic, you can tell it is all freshly made in house. Definitely should give it a try while walking around Cashiers. read more

This is the best place ever. They have the best donuts, the best macarons, the best cupcakes and the most delightful people that work their. Serena and her staff have always been so nice when we stop by, its always a pleasure talking to them. My favorite is the coconut donuts and the macarons. Wonderful place to go. read more

The best donuts I have ever had. Simple glazed donut with different toppings. Been twice in three days!!

Stopped for a nice donut. It was the end of the day so they weren't right out of the fryer but it was a nice treat. Other customers in the store were raving about their cakes and cupcakes. We'll try those next time! read more
