Sugar Catering is in an industrial area of South Vancouver. Seems most customers work around the area as the City of Vancouver services are close by. Menu consist of sandwiches, wraps and salads. When to pickup a Reuben sandwich. Added pickles and comes with mash potatoes. The Reuben had a good amount of meet and flavor. I added a side order of fries that was a bit salty for me.

    Fish & Chips special $11.50 (Sept. 2023)

Located on the industrial side (south) of S.W. Marine Drive and Manitoba St., this little cafe, diner, casual dining, catering establishment is a classic. Unpretentious and offering honest, good food. At the helm is a honed, experienced chef who offers customers great value for their hard earned money. Portions are larger than expected and their daily specials are something to look forward to. On this visit, I had the fish & chips (1 pc.) special for $11.50 (add 1pc. fish for $6.95). The fish was the size of my hand, perfectly crispy batter encasing the moist, steamy hot fillet. perfect. Served, as it should, with kennebec style fries and tartar sauce and lemon wedge. As the picture shows, no frills, no bells and whistles - that was unnecessary as the food spoke for itself. While enjoying my lunch, I took in the hand written menu on the blackboard behind the counter...from burgers to spaghetti and meatballs to lamb and chicken souvlaki, their menu is as varied as your cravings of the day. I will definitely return and try more items. (I left with a slice of carrot cake to go!) This little cafe has been around since 2003, and obviously they have been doing something right! Support local small business - they ae the heartbeat of our economy!

From Chuck's fine art collection. On loan to Sugar's

Your host Chuck is the reason (as well as there being no restaurants within half a kilometer) that Sugar's is a success. Good lunch menu with lots of comfort food as well as a Vegetarian menu and a choice of smoothies. There is an empty wall with 3 frames with no pictures. I guess Chuck is waiting for you to add to his collection. If the yellow Jeep Wrangler isn't parked across the street, the place ain't rockin.

3.5*'s This place has been on my list for a while and I was waiting for an opp to pop by. It finally came. Fearing the Arches just up the street, I came here instead on a Saturday afternoon. It was DEAD. Practically nobody in this place. You're pretty much guaranteed to get a seat on the weekend. It's a caterer/diner. Seating is ~20 peeps tops, and I'm guessing that the owner caters mainly to the local businesses and peeps that know about this place and work nearby during the weekdays. I know about it because my parents live in the area and I grew up in this area.. Prices, not bad. Maybe a $1 or $2 more than something comparable on the lower end of pricing. I know my diners. I go to a lot of them. This is one of the more cleaner and updated, in terms of renos, diners. Food is pretty decent for what it was. In house ground patty for the burger. If I had any complaint about it, there was a bit of gristle that was left in the patty. Evidence of house ground. I needed dental floss for that one. Fresh condiments on the burger with a bit of dressing. Fresh cut fries too. Daily specials are available. All in all, pretty decent. MC accepted

This one is fun because your enthusiasm feels genuine. I'd lean into that instead of trying to…read moresound like a traditional reviewer. That's what makes it memorable. Jam Cafe, Vancouver Jam Cafe is my favorite brunch spot. Anywhere. That sounds like an exaggeration. It isn't. I've been traveling to Vancouver for work for almost a decade, and every single trip includes a stop at Jam. If I'm lucky, two. I've also become that coworker who convinces everyone to meet outside at 7:45 in the morning so we can be part of the first seating at 8:00. Thankfully, we're all from the East Coast and have been awake since 5:00 anyway. Over the years I've successfully JAMfluenced more business travelers than I'd like to admit. And yes, it's still worth the wait even if you're not first in line. The restaurant itself is tiny. Cozy farmhouse vibes, mismatched decorations covering the walls, and maybe 15 tables between the dining room and patio. It feels more like someone's favorite neighborhood breakfast spot than one of Vancouver's brunch institutions. The menu is comfort food turned up to eleven. Everything is indulgent, creative, and somehow still balanced. You can tell the kitchen starts with great ingredients because every component tastes like it could stand on its own. I try to branch out every visit... and then usually end up ordering the Tater Tot Bowl anyway. Crispy tater tots, buffalo sauce, Mexican street corn relish, and ridiculously good pulled pork. It's the kind of dish that sounds like it shouldn't work, but every bite somehow gets better than the last. And then there are the cinnamon roll pancakes. They are enormous. They're also one of the best brunch dishes I've ever eaten. Birdfluencer Lorraine M. declared them the best pancakes she's ever had, and after several visits, I don't have much of an argument. Service is exactly what it needs to be. Friendly, efficient, and quick. The staff knows there's a line forming outside before the doors even open, but you never feel rushed. Overall, Jam Cafe has officially become part of my Vancouver tradition. At this point, a work trip to the city doesn't really start until I've had breakfast here. If you're visiting Vancouver and only have time for one brunch, this would be my pick without a second thought.

The wait staff is also very friendly. You can I think book a reservation. Definitely a cute place. Ok the food. The menu is unbelievable. Classic southern country menu, biscuits, bowls, Benedict's, pancakes, and more. Lots of innovative dishes. My wife had the tater tot bowl and it looked good. I had the gravy coop - grilled pork belly on biscuits with gravy. It doesn't actually come with that much gravy - I had to order more. The biscuit is excellent - crunchy, consistent. I loved the pork belly. Crispy and chewy, really good. The gravy is good though I wouldn't say it stands out. The combination works for sure. The hash browns though aren't anything special. Oh and the portions are huge. I would come back to try their pancakes and French toast. I would make a reservation first though!

Crispy, flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and the kind of dish I would come back for all by itself. The Les Boulettes were packed with flavor and so satisfying. The waffle was also perfection, which says a lot because I'm really not a sweets person. The latte felt downright lavish. Smooth, rich, and beautifully done. The martini definitely did the trick. Between the food, drinks, and overall experience, Medina Cafe is absolutely worth a visit. The service was fantastic, I'd happily come back, especially for those potatoes because I'm still thinking about them!

The menu had many enticing entrees, but I ended up with a Cassoulet and a Liege Style Waffle with Mixed Berry Compote. The limited waffles are a MUST either as an appetizer or dessert, and the compote only makes it that much sweeter! While waiting for food, I also had a hot latte, and it was tasty! Thankfully, sugar was on the side; the latte was good as is. The Cassoulet arrived at long last within 15 minutes, and it was a fairly tasty dish. The proteins were meaty and erred on the saltier end, though crisply cooked. The focaccia was good, and the "stew" that it came in was fairly sweet and salty - a bit too strong for me. Our server was very attentive in checking in on drinks, the meal, and the entire dining experience. While we had visited later in the day ~ 1pm, there was indeed still a wait time. Highly recommend coming earlier to RSVP just in case!
