Unfortunately my experience wasn't as pleasant as Emily M, I dont usually go to the trouble of writing reviews but in this case I felt people should be aware of my experience with the suffolk street surgery.
I first found this surgery online when I was looking for a place to get my travel vaccinations done. I was travelling to Belarus in June and knew I would also be travelling to South America in November so I asked for the vaccinations for both trips to be covered. I was due to return a second date for any booster shots I would need as I wanted to be covered for the full 10 years.
To cover all the vaccinations, it would be a maximum of 3 visits to the surgery, which turned into 5 visits to the surgery. This was down to a lack of organisation by the doctor as I was told to come back for one vaccination too early, resulting in 2 extra visits. Both of which I was charged an extra consulatation fee for. Also having to take the extra time off work for the two mistaken appointments.
I noticed that my boyfriend had paid significantly less for the same vaccinations at the Tropical Bureau (€270) when I had at this point paid €470 for the same!!
On my fifth visit (last vaccination) to the clinic I politely queried if it was possible that I had been charged a consultation fee each time, when I should only have been charged this fee on the first visit? As I couldnt understand why I had been charged so much more for the same!
The receptionist at the desk was exceptionally condescending and rude, asked me, before I had a chance to ask her for a few moments of her time to explain my query, to step aside as there was a more important person/delivery man behind me needed serving. She repeatedly interrupted my query in an extremely condescending manner asking me to sit in the waiting room & not allowing me for a second to explain my circumstances, despite me being the only client in the surgery at this point. (I had spoken to her on the phone briefly on a previous date & had the same condesceding experience).
At this point I had to attend my appointment with the nurse who was administering my last vaccination. She, in fairness listened to me patiently as I explained my problem & arranged for me to discuss my being overcharged with the doctor/owner of the surgery as the receptionist was clearly not willing to do so.
I had been COMPLETELY overcharged. Besides being charged a consultation fee each time, the vaccinations themselves are far more expensive than the tropical Bureau. For example, the Tetanus & dypetheris injection with Tropical bureau was €15, with this crowd it was €40!! The doctor 'let me off' €20 for one of the visits they had messed up.
Generally the doctors & nurses were pleasant to deal with, but the amount of errors made overall was ridiculous. The overcharging, messing up with dates, amount of time I had to take off work and difficulty with which to resolve the issue, resulted, unfortunately, in an awful experience.
The only good thing I can say for this surgery is that the nurse I had was abolutely lovely & is a credit to the other people employed there. It is a pity the receptionist acted as such a poor front of house. read more
