And…read morewell I did something to my big toe, and after suffering for a bit it occurred to me that the frozen peas might not be the medical experts i took them for. Anyway I had previously noticed this new(ish) walk in Dr's surgery, which I thought I could use. Mostly I use the college doc but it was too far to hobble. So off I hobbled to this surgery with its odd, but actually quite convenient opening hours. The reception area is a bit off-putting. There is no receptionist... but there is CCTV and it's assumed that the waiters will organise themselves in the order in which they came into the holding area (it honestly felt more like a holding area than a waiting room). With the austere surroundings I though the doctors would not be nice, but actually the doctor I met with was really lovely and quite sympathetic to my dislocated (as it turns out) toe. The price of the visit was pretty high too, higher than my own GP by a bit. All in all the place was handy in my hobbling 'emergency' but I wouldn't like to go their regularly... it's bad enough feeling sick without going somewhere that makes you feel like you've also committed a crime. Yes, these things matter!

No communication around delays or what to expect. Nurse couldn't find a vein in 3 places. I'm black and blue. When she did find one she lost it and then explained she didn't know if she had finally found one. The surgeon would know when they tried to sedate me. 5 hours after arriving I got to theatre. No apologies nothing and a mouth piece put in. I'm fasting no food or water and sedative is administered. Felt nothing and tried to let the surgeon know but the nurse pushed my head down told me not to move or try speaking.... In recovery and removed everything myself bar the cannula. No one came near me. They almost forgot to take bloods again before I left. Private hospital????

Went here for the first time earlier, and was greeted with the friendliest GP I've ever come across. She sat down beside me and just listened, then chatted with me as if she were a friend, offered solid advice and many options to suit me, and was even eager to save me money on a few things. Besides this, when I arrived in the centre, I had to wait a max of 3-4 minutes before being seen. The place is smack bang in the middle of Smithfield, so really easy access-wise, and it's pretty brand new, so nice and bright, airy and clean looking. Overall, my visit gave me full confidence in their abilities, something I'd very rarely say about any visit to a GP centre!

The receptionist took our details and apologised that we might have to wait up to ten minutes to be seen!!! I was thrilled with how pleasant the staff were, how clean the place was. We were seen very quickly by a doctor, xrayed, bandaged with an appointment for physio made all within an hour. BLISS will deffo be using it again thank you VHI for saving my sanity. Unfortunately it is not cheap for non VHI members but when you measure up the cost of sitting in A&E for 15 hours as opposed to paying out 150euro (a night on the town) then I'd forgo the night on the town.

He told me it 'wasn't rocket science' and I could just google it and make contact with the organization myself. Upon doing this, I was told by the organization that I did in fact need a referral letter. In general, I found Dr. Killeen to be very unprofessional (slapped me on the shoulder), rude and patronizing. He made me very uncomfortable and I was glad to leave his office. Her english is not the best and when this was explained over the phone the receptionist told us they do not take patients who don't speak English and they do not use google translate. They refused to make her an appointment due to her not being able to speak English well over the phone. The colleague who called speaks perfect English and French and could have easily gone to the appointment with her to help translate but the receptionist did not even attempt to make this option available. I am not sure if this is a racist policy of the GP or practice, or if the receptionist is just particularly bitter but this should not have happened regardless. This is not only illegal but very disappointing as health care should be accessible to all, and the HSE will provide translators if needed. Dublin thrives because of tourism, so to expect everyone to speak English to receive health care is unfair and unrealistic.
