There was a person checking documents and answering questions. I was given a number and some forms to complete. When my number was called, I went to an area where I was able to sit down, get my documents processed and pay the fees. Then I was given a new ID card which is good for 5 years. Note that the REAL ID does not say REAL ID on it, it's the same as my old ID with a gold star on the upper right side of the card.

At 8:30 the doors opened and all of us were let in. We filed into a line around the room. An employee announced if anyone was just getting a picture taken to step forward and get served right away. And now here is where the longest wait happened. Only one employee is checking the paperwork so most are in line for that since that's how you get your number to be waited on (or sent home if you didn't bring the right papers!). That took about 30-35 mins. Not terrible!!! I was 5th in line when I got my number. Got called to a desk in 10 mins (I had barely just finished the 2 pieces of paper they give you to fill out!). From that point I was done in 10-15 mins since I had to get my picture taken ( you can use your current license pic only if your name on license already matched passport. Since mine was missing my middle name I didn't have the option to use the pic on file). But the camera kiosk person was the nicest lady ever. We laughed and commiserated and she let me take 3 pics before we got a photo that was ok. So in and out in 70 mins with real ID in hand! I had been so hesitant to do this having heard such horror stories. So glad I finally did it!!

Staff are really excellent there. They run a tight ship and keep everyone in order. They are open about wait times and manage everything efficiently. There's no small talk; they are polite and to-the-point in order to get through the line as quickly as possible. They review folks in line to make sure they are prepared with the required forms and documents; you won't wait hours only to find you can't be served that day. I brought work to keep me occupied, some water, and my patience. Bathrooms are clean, btw. This location prints IDs in minutes, which is why I chose it. I appreciate the staff and their work to make sure the process moves as quickly as it can.

I understand this is probably a thankless job full of just directing irritating people to sign on guidelines and then having them sign in the wrong place anyway. This is my first time going to this one and everyone was helpful nice, we were laughing and joking. I seriously think that's the only time I've ever laughed inside of a DMV. The lady took my picture and asked me if I liked it. I said it's fine but I look like a criminal. so she goes it looks better than last time. Then she brings the two side-by-side and says that it looks like I cut my own hair last time. she goes "oh honey you gotta spring for the barbershop next time!" My number was called in less than 20 mins and it was printed by 9:58. Was so surprised. It's probably worse the later you go in the day, it got busier and busier as time went on. I highly recommend getting there when it opens. Seems like if you do, you'll be able to get in and out of there in less than two hours.

You'll need a camera card (mailed to you after you renew your license) to get a number. With the number, you can proceed directly to the "A" station to get your picture taken. If you need other services or didn't renew on-line, the wait can be 2-4 hours. (KOP DMV, if you are reading this, it would be really helpful if you set up a separate 'pictures only' line right at the main entrance.)
