Not gazpacho, not borscht, no brightly colorful cream soups or bisques, no mint soups. They have plenty of interesting sandwiches on homemade bread. They have limeade! But we were here for soup in July. Nope.

We found the Elf in the Oak on Yelp and once we saw the menu, we knew we had to give it a try. The Elf in the Oak is nestled on Rt 414. If you're not actively using a GPS, you may pass it by. It's not a large place by any means, but there's more than enough seating indoors and out. We went on a Friday morning, so there wasn't a wait and we received our food quickly. We both wanted 'the Spicy' and I have to admit, it's one of the best egg sandwiches I've ever had, which is high praise coming from someone who once worked at a popular bagel joint on Long Island. If we lived locally, we'd definitely go back, but I hope if you're looking for a quick casual brunch place to grab a bite, you consider visiting the Elf In The Oak.

We ordered and paid at the counter and they brought the food to our table. We ordered three pick-two combo. The sandwiches were average. The chili had way too much chili powder as that's all i could taste. No one finished their chili because of it. The Italian chicken trio soup was too acidy. The corn muffins were cold. I think they would taste better if served hot.

It's an open table/communal table concept with a very long table inside you sit at, a bar, and just a few two-top tables that are more private. Our waitress was very nice and competent. We liked her a lot and the vibes were just easy going and friendly. We had a few things on the menu that looked good when we walked in and some plans - we thought we were probably going to for sure try the Beer Brisket Sandwich and or the Gyro. In the end we got: -two orders of Brisket Tacos with dipping sauce and greens (special that night) - soooooo good! -side of kale slaw - the rice wine vinaigrette was so good I could've just drank it! -Baked Amish Pretzel - topped with bacon and cheese. Loved this! My friend has a soy allergy - which can be tough at a restaurant, but our waitress was awesome and the whole staff were pros. She checked things out and promptly with the chef and came back to tell her what the chef recommended. 10 out of 10 - our favorite meal in the Finger Lakes by far.
