I totally get the hype about this place! If I lived nearby, you can bet I'd work my way through…read moretheir whole menu. There's just something different about this style of sandwich. I've had sandwiches in NYC and Boston, but Tony's were definitely better! The menu is overwhelming because so much sounds good, so we went with two 7 inch sandwiches to split--one hot and one cold. Although a helpful tip from the cashier is that you can order any cold sandwich hot. We had the Lucky Luciano (hot) and the Sophia (cold). Both were really good--it was hard to choose between the two. But if I'm being honest, that cold sandwich was reminiscent of subs I loved in the early 2000s from places that no longer exist...with that super thinly sliced turkey, thick slice of Swiss cheese, and basil mayo--it really hit the spot. We also had a cannolo--not as good as others I've had. The bottled root beer was delightful. The Lucky Luciano was the kind of sandwich I came here for, and don't get me wrong, it is deliciously cheesy and will make your hands messy. But the Sophia is the kind of sandwich I'll be craving. My only regret was not taking a sandwich to-go for later. Open a location closer to Houston, please. :)

Many visits later it pains me to remove a star FOR BEVERAGE ISSUES ONLY (the food is still…read morefantastic). They are a pepsi place (booooooo!), and there's no diet pepsi (pepsi zero is their only zero calorie soda option). If you drink Diet Coke (most popular diet drink in USA), then you don't want diet pepsi, but you'll probably drink it if you have to; however, you're very likely to hate pepsi zero (and Coke Zero, too), so no soda for you here anymore! A full Coke setup that also includes Dr Pepper AND Diet Dr Pepper is ideal. I realize a pepsi fountain is more profitable because of distributor incentives, but pepsi is favored by almost nobody and hated by many...so is it really worth it? Tony's is so great that pepsi just does not fit in. Hopefully they don't deteriorate further and change to Wonderbread for all of their sandwiches. Bottom line: at the very least, please add diet pepsi to your soda machine if that brand remains in place.

There is a dine in option however the place is relatively small and they have quite a busy "To Go" service so it is akin the having a meal along a busy sidewalk. Please don't misunderstand, if your option is to consume your meal in a facility or in your car it is likely more convenient but that ends the contrast. Because it is o "To Go" oriented for instance if you order gumbo (which I did) you will be given a small plastic spoon and salad (which I ordered) will be segregated (Like olives grouped together, feta grouped etc. ) in a container "To Go" container making it impossible to 'toss' without making a mess or using your hands. Let's address food which I have mentioned. Gumbo is akin to a Manhattan style fish chowder, not objectionable however not gumbo. The Greek Salad I gave already described with the addition of the fact that my dressing had solidified. When I pointed it out to the folks taking orders it was replaced however in this respect I'm glad I ate in...without a microwave it would not have liquified. Look, I am not an idealist, This is a sandwich "To Go" place I don't fault the owners at trying to make every square inch of a rental place earn money however the 'dine in' option is a convenience not an ambience. The 'gumbo' was not and the salad was a generous portion of lettuce, fresh vegetables, adequate feta however the initial dressing and the serving container for 'eat in' was disappointing. Next time I will order a sandwich which is a Deli goal.

We had a group of 8 adults who had just completed touring 2 of the Painted Churches, in and around Schulenburg. While our tour guide greeted several servers as we entered like old friends, I don't think that was the cause of their friendliness to our group as a whole, I saw them happily greeting everyone and providing excellent service. Our happy server quickly took drink orders, you can tell when a server is confident in her job and knows the routines as she never wrote anything down but when she returned with drinks, the orders were all correct. She then took orders for lunch, we had a variety of offerings from the menu. I decided on the Tzatziki Salad, a nicely presented Greek style salad with grilled chicken breast slices and some tzatziki with pita points. Others around me had the Rueben and the grilled chicken salad and said everything was perfect. I also heard great things about the home made chicken salad and their hamburgers. And if you feel like your garden needs a bit more color, just step into the garden center after lunch and pick out some lovely plants to take home!

I was pleasantly surprised at the absolutely amazing freshness and quality of the food and modern/light atmosphere of this place (a bit unexpected after a few lackluster food experiences in Schulenberg leading up to our lunch here). It was every bit at good as some of the cafes I've eaten in major cities (where there is heavy dining competition). Mom and I both ordered their delicious chicken salad sandwich, piled high (but not too thickly) with shredded chicken on perfectly baked, flaky (but not too flaky) croissant bread. The chicken salad was a perfect blend of seasonings with a few cranberries for a little sweetness. Divine! Each sandwich came with a side of crispy/perfect (seemingly handmade) chips. Our tour guide ordered a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich which she seemed to really enjoy as well, complete with perfectly buttered and crisp grilled sourdough bread. The atmosphere was very modern and new yet warm and dotted with beautiful antique pieces (be sure to check out the old buffet across from the bathroom doors, gorgeous!). And this place seemed packed with many locals in their brunch attire to enjoy the great food and great hospitality of the wait staff. Behind the restaurant, they also host a beautiful nursery where you can browse under the trees through their fairly extensive collection of plants (flowering and non flowering - we saw some variations of native flowering plants we've either never seen before or don't see often so my mom purchased a few for her garden!), chat with the very knowledgeable and friendly owner of the nursery, browse the little nursery gift shop full of unique and beautiful items, and even visit with the sweet "shop" kitties (who seem to like to hang out near the nursery gift shop entrance) if you wish. All in all, a very special experience at this gem in Schulenberg. We will definitely make this our number one stop for meals (and to buy more plants) in Schulenberg when we return!

Before I even said a single word, the attendant abruptly shouted, *"Can I please have a second?!"* in an irritated tone -- startling and completely unnecessary. I sat patiently for several minutes, expecting the order process to continue after she finished whatever she was doing. But instead, another vehicle pulled up in the second lane, and to my disbelief, their order was taken almost immediately while I was still waiting in silence in the first lane. After sitting there for roughly three minutes, I politely checked in to see if anyone was available -- only to be met with the **exact same rude tone**, again yelling, *"Can I have a second?!"* with heavy attitude as if I had done something wrong just by waiting. When I calmly pointed out that another car had just been served before me, she fired back sarcastically, *"Well obviously we're busy,"* instead of offering any kind of professional apology or basic courtesy. At that point, I realized there was no sense in continuing -- no customer deserves to be talked to or treated that way. The staff at this location are clearly in desperate need of customer service retraining. Rudeness, indifference, and prioritizing one car over another in the drive-through lane are unacceptable behaviors for any restaurant, let alone a national brand known for its hospitality. I ended up driving away without even placing an order, completely turned off by the unprofessional conduct and lack of respect. If this is how the team treats paying customers, it reflects very poorly on their management and on Whataburger's standards as a whole. I truly hope corporate addresses the staffing and training issues here because the current operation is an embarrassment to the Whataburger name.
