Five stars for the pizza alone I gotta go over there and try the other stuff too. A coworker got pizzas from here and they hooked him up real good. Excellent service.

Anyway, once we got in we found two seats at the bar. It's extremely rustic looking in there. It looks like a cross between a biker bar and a slice joint you'd find somewhere in Jersey. The main character in the place was sitting at the bar, saying to sit anyplace. He kinda looked like Yosemite Sam without the hat; at least he wore gloves! We began with fried calamari, and as I could see into the kitchen from my vantage point at the bar...Yosemite Sam heated the side of marinara in the microwave. Warm or cold, it was bland as anything, as tho they opened a can of tomato sauce and dumped it into a pot with no other seasoning...Blech! Calamari itself was passable: a bit heavy on the breading but not overfried...tender enough. Since it's Lent as I write this, we wound up deciding on a 16" cheese pie. They also have white pie and Margherita for all the lettuce heads...however as I look about, I think basic would be better. They claim on their menu that the pizza is the "best pizza south of Jersey." Atmosphere on here, meantime, is VERY informal. People just cane and went to and from the bar to ask for this, that and the other even tho there's a waitress and the barkeep in the joint. Speaking of the latter, I had to ask for silverware when the calamari showed up...sigh. That should be automatic. Meanwhile one of the other guys just sitting at the bar picked up all the dirty dishes at a table behind him, from which a couple had just left a few minutes earlier. As more people came along, they interacted with most of the staff like they were all family or members of some social club. Definitely. "have not" membership rather than a "have" one. Meantime, onto the pizza: I asked for it well done, but not burnt...a lotta places in FL undercook their pies. I'm glad I did, because our pie was a bit less than well done; had kind of a light bake. Crust was neutral in flavor with a fairly firm chew; no sweet aftertaste from it or the sauce. Anyway: pie had a decent sauce to cheese ratio, and the cheese itself was quite good. Little flecks of oregano on top is a nice touch that reminds me of a good NYC pie. They also sell pie by the slice if you can't or don't care to order a whole one. It's got a full bar too, but this ain't the kinda place I'd really wanna have a cocktail. Four beers on tap and a few more bottled ones also. Meh...One last note about when the pie came out. Our dear barkeep handed the metal tray directly to me rather than placing it on a pedestal or what have you, like a good pizza joint will do. That's the last straw that persuaded me to render three stars rather than four. The whole thing came to $34 plus tip and I only had Diet Pepsi, and my dear Queen Bee only had tap water. They add 3% for credit card use too, so that didn't help. Would we return? Probably not, even if we were to return to this area.

This time we made reservations well in advance through the Ringling Museum website. The restaurant is located in the Visitors Pavilion of the Ringling Museum, the Grillroom offered a relaxed, modern dining experience with a seasonally inspired menu of fresh salads, artisan sandwiches, and chef-crafted entrées. It was the perfect stop for a leisure lunch break during my museum visit. Indoor and outdoor garden seating is available. On this visit, we sat down for lunch, which is something I always do at museums to reset and renourish before exploring more. David was professional & knowledgeable about our choices. For lunch, I ordered the crusted Aji tuna Niçoise with fingerling potatoes, tiny beans, grape tomatoes, olive pesto with a citrus vinaigrette. My husband ordered a grilled salmon BLT sandwich with rice pilaf. Both were delicious and reflect what chef Lydell Page has brought to the kitchen. Trained at Houston's Cordon Bleu, he makes his sauces and gravies from scratch daily. The combination of flavors were surprising; in fact, our dishes were so good, I forgot I was in a museum. David recommended the signature warm apple crumb cake that's made in house for dessert, we couldn't resist & it didn't disappoint.

I was the only customer there at the time, which made the pickup fast and smooth. The shop itself was clean, modern, and well lit. Because I had a "Surprise Bag," I didn't get to choose my items. She packed up five very large, very delicious donuts, and every single one looked great. So far, we've tried the yeast donut with pink icing and sprinkles and the yeast donut with maple sugar icing. Both were HUGE, fresh, and genuinely tasty. My 3-year-old was absolutely in heaven, even though she couldn't finish more than half of hers. My 1-year-old loved the couple of bites she was allowed to have, too. The value through Too Good To Go was excellent, especially since the regular prices seem pretty high. Still, the quality was there, and the donuts were fresh and flavorful. We will definitely be going again--a great deal, friendly service, and delicious donuts all around!

I saw online they offer a cheddar everything bagel, that will be something I will return for soon. For this first visit I went with their Breakfast Croissant, a sausage, egg, bacon, and cheese sandwich. I was hungry and this sandwich went a long ways in satisfying that issue. I was a little surprised the sandwich was premade and sitting in a food warmer, but after I finished it I thought it was flavorful, soft and easy to eat, and warm. Having it ready to hand out instead of waiting for it to be cooked was a convenience. My donut, because I have to have a donut, was a Chocolate Bavarian Cream. Fresh, very sweet, very good.
