When we pulled into the parking lot, it was clear everyone else had the same idea--place was buzzing with holiday energy. Since we were already there (and since homemade comfort food had been calling my name all morning), we figured we'd sit down for lunch first. Because of the holiday rush, the regular menu wasn't available, so the buffet was the only dine-in option. Honestly? No complaints here. We were seated in the main dining room, close to the buffet--dangerously convenient. There are three buffet stations: the big salad bar in the middle and the hot lines on either side. The salad bar was simple but fresh, with finely chopped lettuce, plenty of dressings, and all the toppings you could want. But let's talk about the hot line because this is where Der Dutchman shines. Fried chicken that's crispy, juicy, and everything comfort food should be. Chicken and noodles that tasted like something grandma would make on a cold day. Honey ham and shredded roast beef that were both tender and flavorful. And of course--the true Midwest essentials--mashed potatoes, stuffing, and green beans. The kind of plate that warms you up before you even take a bite. The buffet is all-you-care-to-eat, and trust me, I cared to eat plenty. My wife and I both kept it simple with water and lemon, and our waitress didn't miss a beat--friendly, efficient, and on top of everything even with the crowd. We left full, happy, and ready to tackle the next mission: pie pickup. And naturally, you can't walk through the Der Dutchman bakery without something extra catching your eye, so a box of donuts came home with us too. Zero regrets. If you're craving true comfort food or want a little taste of Amish-style cooking, Der Dutchman is always worth the trip--holiday rush and all.

Until recently, I had never been to Culver's. Now I'm a big fan!…read more Fast food and fast casual spots are a mixed bag for me because of an unfortunate food allergy. Typically I end up with a sad burger salad-y thing. It's usually nbd though because I'm just happy to have something to eat. Well let me tell you -- Culver's is changing the game here! They have an extremely thorough and easy-to-navigate website when it comes to allergies and preferences. In about 2 minutes I was able to easily identify what I could eat and what I couldn't. The "could" list was much longer than I expected! But then something huge happened. It was like a light shined down from above and the angels sang: there was a gluten-free bun on the menu! I thought -- surely this can't be true. It must be for bigger cities or test markets... NO! They, indeed, did offer a gf bun! And it was a darn good one at that! It was soft but sturdy enough to hold together my delicious cheeseburger. In addition to that burger, I (obviously) ordered some custard too. Yum yum yum! Such a win. As if my gf fast food heaven weren't enough, the people at Culver's are incredible. So helpful. So kind. Truly awesome customer service. I may be late to the Culver's game, but that doesn't make my love any less real. I'm super thankful to them for letting me experience a simple joy -- such as grabbing some fast food on a road trip -- like a regular person.

Overall, my experience with this Bojangles is slightly different than the ones in North Carolina. The Good: - I always get Supremes (chicken tenders) and these were crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside just like in North Carolina (NC) - Honey mustard sauce is still the best The Bad - no additional Cajun seasoning was available for my French fries. - the breakfast menu is not all day and stops at 2pm - the fries portion is significantly smaller than in North Carolina - the dining room doesn't have someone cleaning the tables and asking if you need a drink refill The Okay: - they don't have the Bojangles jelly but the Smucker's jelly is fine - the food is not displayed in a case in the front and your food is not plated in front of you like in NC - iced tea is self-serve Overall, I think Bojangles is the best fried chicken chain in the country. Unfortunately, my experience at this location did not meet my typical standards for Bojangles. The chicken is still delicious but if you're ever in North Carolina, I recommend visiting Bojangles there!

It was a good bit north of "well done." I asked for no pickle and got pickle. I really don't like the taste of pickle, but was not going to ask for a new burger just because it has some pickle juice on it. The bun was nicely grilled. I was not sure whether to get sweet potatoes fries or regular fries and the cashier offered a mix. I liked that and both types of fries were very good -- served hot and seemed like they were cooked in fresh and clean oil. The regular fries had just a touch of breading or batter, I think. The fries were the best part of my meal. No fountain soft drinks and just a soda in a can for $2. That's definitely a point against them. The store was extremely clean and it looks like they had good desserts. They have egg for their burgers which is a plus for me. They bill themselves as halal-friendly, that's good. Lots of vegetarian choices on the menu.
