Steel & Grain - breaded fried shiitake mushrooms

A local resident let me know of the existence of this new restaurant, which opened sometime during…read moreJune of 2025. It's located just off of the lobby, within the Holiday Inn hotel's ground floor. I therefore stopped by for a late lunch under the auspices of the high recommendation of this eatery. When I walked in, I was greeted by a nice lady who ended up becoming my waitress. She was patient, helpful, and seemed happy. It made for a calm a pleasant meal. The restaurant isn't too terribly large, and looks just like a typical, nondescript, hotel restaurant. The ambience was calm, with the four televisions located behind the bar silenced (gratefully), but with the closed captioning turned on. One of the TV-s very appropriately was tuned-in to The Food Network. For an appetizer, I decided upon the breaded/fried shiitake mushrooms. OMG, they were so delicious. I was given the option of jalapeño ranch dipping sauce or plain ranch. I initially thought that I wouldn't need any sauce, but accepted the plain version. It turned out that the ranch paired perfectly with the mushrooms. I suspect that the sauce was probably homemade. While leisurely munching on my delicious mushrooms, my main entree arrived. It was the cavatappi alfredo pasta, with crispy on top chicken that I ordered. The serving size was enough for two people. It was SO scrumptious. The pasta was perfectly cooked. The delicious alfredo sauce was obviously hand-made by the chef. My waitress confirmed that fact. It came with two pieces of bread topped with toasted cheese. I was surprised and impressed with the awesome food and service that I received from a hotel bar and grill. What a hidden gem. The sole negative thing about this place were the flies flying around my table from time to time. It became annoying. The waitress mentioned that she'd unsuccessfully tried to kill the flies. So was I. They need to buy a fly swatter and use it. Anyhow, I really recommend the food here. I will very likely return. Four and a half stars, rounded down to four, because of the flies.

Mike was the best with recommendations and absolutely took care of us!! Southwest egg rolls were unexpected menu item and we will definitely order again. We created our own deep dish pizza with pepperoni, bacon bits and extra sauce and it is by far the best pizza we have had! We have decided next time we are craving pizza, we will make the drive all the way from Memphis just to have it here at Gary's. That's saying something! Can't wait to try the calzone and pasta too! Thanks for such a great experience and awesome food! Valerie & Gary (the OTHER Gary. )

From a list of around…read moreseven or so food items to choose from, you can get one food choice plus a drink for only $10.99 (plus tax). I opted for the calzone and unsweetened iced tea. My ham, bacon, and cheddar calzone was massive and delicious. (They offer three different flavors of calzones.) The iced tea was extraordinarily refreshing on this hot and humid day. The dining area was probably about 60% filled at 12:30 p.m. with lunch patrons. I didn't hear anyone complaining. The thing is, Osceola has a deficit of good dining choices. I take my victories where I can. There's nothing outstanding about the service, as a few of the waitresses acted as if they'd have rather been anywhere else but helping customers at a restaurant. The interior is decorated okay, and the kitschy wall hangings at least break up the monotony. The men's restroom was surprisingly well-kept, and atypically had zero malodor to it. If in the area, I would return again, if only because there really isn't a variety of choices in this area.

I ordered a medium rare ribeye, which was slightly overcooked but still a very good cut of meat. I did not care for the coleslaw or the gouda macaroni and cheese. The meal was served with toast. The chocolate pecan pie with ice cream was good. I arrived at 6:30 and was given a glass of water that a drank immediately because i was thirsty. Any establishment that must function understaffed should be like Nashville clubs and set out a jug of water so people can refill their cups on their own. They took my drink order at 7. There were no empty seats at the bar so I sat alone at a table. The experience was OK but they need at least one more server. The only reason they get by with charging over fifty dollars for the steak is because there's literally no other place within 40 miles you can get a good steak. The sides are below average. The servers are friendly but obviously overworked. The bathroom was clean and there was plenty of parking.

The restaurant portion of the building was almost empty, and I was seated almost immediately, but I was placed at a table in a high traffic area next to the kitchen. After a while, I flagged down an employee since it was unclear to me who my server was. I put in an appetizer order of their heavenly eggs. They included a wonderfully tart sauce, and the serving size was three eggs. The mushroom gnocchi that I had was delicious, and enough to feed two people. The potato dumplings were expertly made, and some of the best that I've ever eaten. Other than the service being a bit hit and miss, I would return if only for the excellent food.

Haven't been here in years so decided to stop in. 2 large groups had just been seated and finished ordering when I sat down. Service was OK despite the big groups. Glad my small order got in before there's as I had finished eating when they bought the last plate to one of them. Food however, meh, just so so. I believe their sandwich plates are better than their meats & 2. The country ham was very good, tender and flavorful. The cornbread was not as they gave me a roll, guess they didn't have cornbread. The peas, well, canned, and on a large leaf of lettuce? The greens, canned. If you're going to advertise a hot lunch special, and it's limited to only 1 meat and specific veggies, seems like you would cook them as homemade vs straight from the can. The guy playing the piano at lunch was nice. Definitely a 'fu fu' place.
