The plates came with baked beans and cole slaw by default -- the baked beans kind of tasted like something you can get at the supermarket, and the slaw was a bit too watery. The person taking our order was very nice and polite, no complaints there. The thing that knocks a few stars off is that it seems the restaurant's branding is copying the original Gus's World Famous Chicken restaurant. Dyersburg is not listed as an official location on their website and the dining area has framed print offs that describes the history of the original restaurant and news articles. It's misleading and makes it seem like it's one of their many locations in Tennessee when it isn't.

The next time I tried again and still couldn't find it but I was determined to get a pot pie so I kept going in circles until I finally got in the turning lane and discovered there were no outside lights on and it was so dark both times that's why I missed getting something to eat. I pulled to the drive through and alerted them that it was so dark I assumed they were closed, the employee just shrugged their shoulders but did turn the lights on. It wasn't busy that time and now I think back it wasn't busy the time before, maybe the staff members didn't want business. Hey maybe you can get more customers at night if the lights were turned on each night at dark. I did mention to the drive through staff that they need an automatic light system. There is plenty of parking in a lot across the street. We went inside and found it to be pretty busy, but we got a table for 4 quickly. The place was clean and homey-feeling and I loved the fact that they used disposable plates, utensils and napkins! It is probably way easier on the crew to clean up, and it adds to the relaxed atmosphere. I had the corn nuggets to start, yum! We finished them easily, they were so good. Then the entree of my chicken tenders, beans, and Mac and cheese came out, along with my sweet tea. The sweet tea was perfect, I drank a whole one during my meal and they gave me another to go in the souvenir Gus's cup. The food was just great, chicken was juicy and perfectly crunchy on the outside. Beans and Mac and cheese, delicious! I ate all of it even though I was stuffed. I even went so far as to order a piece of pecan pie for dessert, but unfortunately our server came back out to tell us they were out of it! Guess it wasn't meant to be (this time)! The texture and taste reminded me more of melted processed cheese than a rich, homemade mac and cheese. However, the service was delightful and easily made up for some of the disappointment with the sides. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made us feel genuinely welcomed throughout the visit. When I called to speak with the manager, I explained that this was the second time I've had issues. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the manager was combative, told me the GM instructed them not to give ketchup unless asked, and then hung up on me when I asked for their name. Good food doesn't make up for poor service. Hanging up on a customer and dismissing feedback is unacceptable. Guthrie's needs to train staff better because this experience makes me think twice about returning.

They were out of Parmesan cheese, the tiramisu dessert was a soggy mess! The overhead vents were dripping on some of us and we had to be moved around. I think it was an off night considering how good it was the first night. I would give them another try.
