Stopped by on my way through and figured I should grab something before the long drive. I like…read moretrying chili burgers because not only are they one of my favorites but I get to see how they make their chili and patty at the same time. Is it homemade chili? Homemade patty and seasoned? Soggy bun or toasted? There was a spot in the front to get a carhop so I parked. It didn't take long before a young girl came to ask for my order. Nothing else seemed that appetizing besides the chili burger anyway so I ordered that. "Mexican food" consisted of nachos. Only after the fact did I see onions rings but thought the burger was enough. No prices on the menu which made me suspicious but how much would a sort of fast food/diner cost me? Didn't expect to pay over $8 but yep. Quite a lot. The burger was only okay. Nothing unique. Nothing to write home about at all. The chili was only slightly different from a Sonic chili burger and honestly, Sonic has more flavor in theirs sadly. I wasn't offered any options for the chili burger and none listed on the menu. Chili burger is what the menu says and that's what you get. No option for onions or grilled onions or anything else. It's definitely not worth $8. Maaaaaybe $4-6 and $6 being generous. $8 should come with fries at least. Basic flavor. Basic presentation. Then you're most likely feeling the need to tip on top of that. The parking area was at least clean. People coming and going makes you think it's a popular spot but makes me wonder if there's better places to go even if I had to walk inside. Great place to pick up food for the kids, grandparents or a quick bite but don't expect much if you want flavor. You pay more than what you get.

Service was friendly and my order was taken right away. Food came out in a reasonably short amount of time. My food was hot and fresh. I was hoping for handmade fingers. They were good but not GREAT. Probably need to give them another try. Worth stopping in if you're passing through. Thank you!

Pat's is a local staple in Portales and comes highly recommended by the local residents. Always see…read morea crowd of people during lunch or dinner time hours waiting for their food. Very similar to The Hat's style of food/ordering - no tables or chairs, so most of the time customers take the food to-go or eat in their cars. I was told that their tater tots with chili and cheese, mozzarella cheese sticks, and green chile cheese burger are really good. But seeing from the reviews, it seems like their shakes, malts, and cyclones are also incredibly popular as well! It was a necessity that I try the milkshake or ice cream before I left Portales. Coming back from a last minute trip to Lubbock, we stopped by Pat's to get some ice cream before calling it a day. I tried the butterscotch ice cream in a small cup, but what was given to me was a huge Styrofoam cup filled with ice cream. It was super creamy and soft, but tasted more like vanilla with butterscotch drizzled around the ice cream. However, after sticking the ice cream in the freezer for awhile and eating it later, it became super thick and heavy, and started to taste like Play-doh. I think you have to eat it right away or else it doesn't taste fresh anymore. My friend said her chocolate ice cream was good and fulfilled her chocolate craving! Food-wise, if you plan to order from Pat's, give yourself some cushion time because they do take awhile before they call your number to give you your food. The tater tots with chili and cheese - it was pretty good; I definitely regretted eating it once I finished, but I thought there was a good amount of chili and cheese on top of the tater tots that most of the potatoes were covered. Eating it relatively soon is key or else everything becomes mushy. I also tried the regular green chile burger without cheese - I don't think I remember it tasting too out of the ordinary. It really resembled a regular chili burger. Taste was good, and overall the burger was super filling. The tater tots and burger were probably not the healthiest meal for me, but I do think it's a good indulgent meal to have every so often! I can see why it's pretty popular in Portales. tl;dr - Solid take-out food at pretty cheap prices. Recommend the tater tots and the burgers. I wasn't able to try the Cyclones or milkshakes, but I've heard good things about those items as well! Minimum order of $5 in order to use credit card I believe.

I never understood the name "Pat's Twin Cronnie" and I still don't…read more My co-workers often ate here when they had work in Portales, NM. Turns out, it's just a takeout place. Not even a single bench or picnic table so be prepared to take it home or eat in the Jeep! The service was so-so on August 3, 2026. It took a while to get my order, but of course I was the first in line right at opening time. They offer a Daily Specials menu, but I stuck with a small Sprite, tater tots, and chile cheeseburger. I had stated that they only sauce I like is mayonnaise only to find freakin' mustard on my bread. The green chiles had a kick and were chopped rather nicely. As a newbie, I didn't understand the drive-thru or walk-up situation or even where to park at first. Locals came and parked a totally different way than I did. Lol... It gets loud waiting for your food - in which case they just kind of yell at you when your order's ready - but the street is right there and big rigs were passing through one after another. It seems like a swell place for said locals, but I can't imagine going here again.
