The waitress who greeted us was over the top friendly and welcoming - my granddaughter took to her immediately, which is rare for her - and she had a wonderful time running and playing while we waited for our food. And the food?!! Ah-MAZ-ing! I wasn't familiar with some of the sauces, so she made a point to give us some of all that they carry - and wow, just WOW! The barbeque was moist and tender, and the cole slaw was equally fabulous - not to sweet, but just enough to be the perfect offset for the barbeque (particularly when using the spicy - it was beyond perfect!) I opted for the Rueben, which, I was equally impressed with - the corned beef was tender, hardly any fat, and the dressing was to die for. Desert was equally as delicious, their Cheese cakes are nothing less than phenomenal - and lets just say their pasta salad and pimento cheese found its way home with us to enjoy with dinner that evening - amazing! Hillman brewery has tons of seating and has a lovely outdoor patio along the creek that runs next to the brewery. I had their kombucha and my husband had their beer. We both enjoyed our drinks. While we understand that some restaurants have policies regarding larger parties, I believe gratuities should reflect the quality of service provided. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The service was slow, we had difficulty getting water refills and other items we requested, and overall the level of attention did not justify a 22% gratuity. What made the situation worse was the response after concerns were raised. We were informed that the credit card had already been processed for the full amount and were told that we should find another restaurant in the future if we were unhappy with the policy. In addition, after another member of our party left a review, a response from management included insulting and unprofessional remarks about customers who questioned the gratuity. Rather than addressing customer concerns respectfully, the response appeared hostile and dismissive. I believe tipping should be voluntary and based on the quality of service received. Customers should be informed of automatic gratuity policies before ordering, and concerns should be handled professionally. Due to both the service and management's response, I would not return and cannot recommend this restaurant.
